  • Is it me or does the saxaphonist look like Fred Murtz from 'I Love Lucy"?

  • I took my dad to see this show all those years ago.

    He fell asleep.

  • GLaDOS!!! 0.45

  • Miss those heady days of Laurie, T Heads, Devo, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush. Perform on!!!

  • bought to you by drinkers and advertisers on TV all over the world over n over n over again :)

  • @NathanPaulPrince welcome to the New Millenium - ad your space here heh heh - she rocks

  • This is the same Laurie Anderson on Harry Potter correct?

  • @Sixxer7 no

  • Love Laurie Anderson but there are two types of people n this world-those who change their hairstyle every once in a while and those who never do.

  • Proof you can make avant garde ideas work in a mainstream setting with humour and gravitas without a hintof elitism or snobbery. What always strikes me first about Anderson is her warmth, she's about inclusion and sharing of ideas.

  • @larawilder my god you put that so well. i've been listening to her for years and have seen her in concert twice, and what you said is exactly right. but i couldn't have said it in a way that hit the nail on the head like you did. the warmth and inclusion of her audience while stimulating the mind at the same time. true artistry in that

  • @plantfish1

Larawilder, how plantfish has reacted is as I have reacted. When I read your commentary on Laurie I had to stop whatever I was doing to commend you. Your descriptors warmth and inclusion are indeed prominent characteristics of Laure that haven't been pointed out to us until you revealed them to us.

  • I FUCKING LOVE LAURIE ANDERSON, SHIS MY FAVORITE ARTIST WITH WOLFGANG PAALEN

  • Sempre vanguarda. Excelente!

  • LA is her own Alternative Universe...Welcome!

  • Can someone tell me who is the guitar player?

  • Like I needed one more reason to envy the piss out of Lou Reed.

  • Man what an amazing six minutes. Had a chance to see her in the eighties and passed. What a mistake

  • I was going to write a whole load of stuff about the commercial trap and how artists forget what they are about, but then sometimes remember, like Laurie. But I can't be arsed. Laurie is, without question, one of the best artists of our time. I am proud to own several Lauries, and Damien can take a run and jump. The '80s happened but it was nobody's fault.

  • What a show ! My brother 's seen this live in Paris and i envy his luck ! I have this VHS though, which is expensive and rather difficult to find... but the sound quality of it compared to the audio cd or the vinyl record leaves more than just a bit to be desired. Anyway, a few years later i saw her live in Athens on a solo performance but it was still a fine show ! And guess what ! I 'm gonna see her again in Athens TONIGHT ! I got to get ready to go...the theatre is 35klm away !

  • So weird , but i like it

  • Woot! I've got tickets to see Laurie talk and in concert with 'Delusion' later this month!

  • the 25 sec intro is a virus

  • ok, other thing: which is the synth she has infront of her?

  • @ddermend That would be a Synclavier

  • @AnalogNoiseLab - Actually a Synclavier II, but let's not nitpick! ;-)

  • and he was going ooah ooah ooah, best part, best noise and best face ever !!

  • Is that King Crimson on guitar?

  • @ropefast Adrian Belew

  • I was happy enough to see that performance in Frankfurt. Something to change your life.

  • It's so weird to hear such bizarre rhetoric in such a brassy consonant tonality.

  • Say what you want about the studio version, but I love its lyrics.

"Well, I dreamed there was an island that rose up from the sea. And everybody on the island was somebody from TV. And there was a beautiful view, but nobody could see. 'Cause everybody on the island was saying: Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!"

There you have reality TV being predicted in 1986. Brilliant.

  • he was goin uuuahhyh?

maybe she saw mac dre doin a thizz face

  • I shall upload the original from United States Live. That's a version I like a lot.

  • Why, why, why, oh, WHY is "Home of the Brave" not on DVD?

  • @doktorzoom It is on Audio CD -- Video of the performance to DVD is a another round of lawyers, recording labels, rights of distribution. Bummer!

  • This version is SO MUCH BETTER!

While her studio recordings are never half of what her live shows are, the album version of this song (from the otherwise "live" album Home Of The Brave) is HORRID! Nile Rodgers needs to be smacked across the face with 100 fish for that. Preferably sea bass.

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • @jordinyc blub...blub...blub- "theoy'r on their way",says cat===does she have a song about fish?

  • the worst lyrics i've ever heard... like ear puke

  • El lenguaje es un virus poético

  • 100x better than the album version.

  • she is beautiful

  • It's fun the way Laurie experimented with sounds. I'm glad I still have the cassette.

  • oh yeh... Laurie rocks!

  • ... I think I totally didn't get it

  • Is there any film or video of the performance of this song from 'United States?"

  • @mrreptilebrain not sure about the States, but this is from Home of The Brave, which you may find googleing the name + download. There are thousands of torrents!

  • fuckin retard - get yer dumb ass name off her videos and let her rip p i saw her 3 times across canada n yu clip too much space

  • can someone ask to her to don't stop? never?

  • she is a genius... or a crazy... or a crazy genius? words, words, words...don't matter, i love her!

  • It's a brilliant work--a diptych of genius working beyond infinity.

  • so why talk? you are dangerous! i have been known to turn to vodka when i hang out with you.

  • Paradise is exactly like

    Where you are right now

    Only much much better.

  • they just don't make 'em like they used to ... genius.

  • man i have some records by laurie and i rly like her, but since ive seen this i realy think ive been misjudgin her...

  • @ lustweib, im guessing the means gross and duisgusting

  • super grüsse aus deutschland

  • always odd, always good.

  • Wow, you never know where Adrian Belew will turn up next

  • Laurie is so hot!

  • @Krupification can you believe how beautiful she is?

  • there was a guitar with a bending neck in one of the performances from this concert.

Could anyone please remind me, which one it was?

  • A joke that's what it is, the joke of life. I've made sex on her tunes and it turned into a joke with someone who is a joke.

  • @servedraw Try it to ''Shiek Yer Booty" by Frank Zappa.

  • @servedraw .

If she doesnt leave you - marry her.

  • I remember when this was the number one song on the charts, and now we have had a continual shit of boy bands and justin bieber is the latest, what the hell happened to music actually making a difference! Thanx for putting this on, it caused me to recall when music meant something.

  • @fubar50cat

shit is allways happen - you must look out for the gems!

  • WHAT A WONDERFUL ARTIST!!!!

  • Hadn't seen again that movie since its release that year.

I was so shocked at watching it that i could say no word during all the show.

Obviously, it is an intelligent and complex art masterpiece, so it was no commercial at all. There is no way to find a copy of the feature movie in the market, anyplace in the world.

Thanks youtube I can recover this pieces of my memory.

  • @CitizenPepe

You express my feelings exactly. What a talent she is

  • @agerven Thanks for your appraisal. I've subscribed to your channel, it sounds cool.

  • Is she available on dvd yet? Saw a live show in San Fransico well over twenty years ago, and too see Adian is a plus.

  • That's Adrian Belew on guitar of King Crimson fame.

  • I got into Laurie Anderson because I was a huge Belew fan - unfortunately found out about her just a tad late and missed her Strange Angels tour by a day, but then I found a copy of Home of the Brave on VHS and was in heaven. I have lost track of how many times I have seen her in concert since then. Every time I have seen her perform she is sharper, more intense, always fascinating.

  • CANT ADMIRE THIS WOMAN MORE!!!

  • I had a dream last night.

And in ithis dream there were lots of cynics.

    and none of them.

    got.

    the joke.

  • Just fantastic !!!

  • the post-structuralist critique set to '80s art-pop...

beginning reminds me of King Crimson's "Indiscipline", also with Belew, from '81.

  • i have seen her live, she is real, and FOR REAL.

Ever changing and renewing her art,

so maybe there really is no such thing as "A" Laurie Anderson.

    Many of her (thankfully).

  • @morristhecat56 She is such an inspirational, brilliant and true artist.

  • GODDAMN

    FLOATING WHOREHOUSE

    DEATH IS THE NAVIGATOR

    - William S Burroughs

  • Laurie is a revelation.

Her voice and personality are timeless:)

    Thanks and greetings:)

  • Still in love with her and with her songs after all these years!

  • That is Adrian Belew on guitar!!!! Wow!!

  • @WillieMammothSSJ:

yes - HOME OF THE BRAVE

  • where is this clip from. does she have a concert film???

  • Hi, Willie...this is from one of Laurie's lives...(1984 curca) (;o)*

    Love Peace Music

Melody Fox (aka the Princess of Rock)

  • You know? I don't believe there's such a thing as YouTube... I mean, they just keep showing you the same pictures, over & over & over. And when they talk, they just make sounds that more-or-less sync up with their lips...

    That's what I think!

  • @Anamnesia

    Are we related? :P

  • She is just made of pure win

  • oh, dear god. she's..stunning.

  • "Language is a virus" - hey, that's a quote from William S. Burroughs, ya know!

  • She worked with Burroughs on one album . This could be it. A great combination.

  • @TheFlamingroovy

You're probably thinking of the album Laurie Anderson recorded with William S Burroughs and John Giorono called, "You're The Guy I Want To Share My Money With." There's also a track on Mister Heartbreak called, "Sharkey's Night" which features Burrough's vocals.

  • Profound! Yet we must spread our words just to let someone else know we are here. Have a happy whatever.

  • survi is not a la guage hehe because i'm a poet not an

  • i walk? huh? oops im paying more attention to the background images

  • J Walk. It's when you cross the street without a walk signal.

  • captain obvious to the rescue!

  • Good!

  • Laurie Anderson is simply GREAT !

  • Has there ever been a widescreen version of Home of the Brave outside a theater?

  • In a metaphoric universe, she is the moon and Frank Zappa the sun.

  • I agree!

  • @Steerpikey OK but only if Kate Bush is the Earth

  • @MAXAM4444 OMG! The holy Trinity! :D

  • @Steerpikey What a perceptive statement.

  • I love her work, just stands out & doesn't follow the generic bullshit of today, or any other day for that matter. lol.

  • You still can't get this video in the UK.

  • yes u can its right here on youtube

  • i've seen her Berlin a performance in 1984 and i was very very impressed. by accident i was seated next to her on a flight to london the next day. very cool lady ( or maybe just hung over)

  • you know, i don't believe there's such a thing as laurie anderson. i mean, they just keep playing the same music over and over. and when she sings they just make sounds that more or less sync up with her lips.

    that's what i think.

  • @StaticEclectic she's making all of those sounds with the cloths that she's wearing. my mom and grandparents saw her preforming in a coffee shop before she was a hit.

  • This is based on William S. Burroughs work. He talked about words as organisms.

  • It's great to see Adrian Belew from King Crimson,on guitar. PEACE!

  • This is the Bomb...

  • Just to get a (honest) dissenting viewpoint in here.... I thought that was pretty awful. The notion of language as a virus might be interesting. Listening to that phrase over & over interspersed with random anecdotes didn't do it for me.

  • With all due respect, maybe that was the point. People are alwyas talking and saying random things.

It's like walking around and hearing parts of conversations out of context.

    The music is awesome!

This is one of my favorite pieces of hers.

  • i like this song,,,,wfit flaa 1980s please,,,,

  • When there's nothing new, critique!

  • Just Brilliant.

  • That's why I'd rather hear your name than see your face

  • I remember watching this in concert while going to college. It reminds me of NPC problems like those dealing with language and lexical syntax.

  • The whole Home of the Brave is great! rc

  • The way they enter the stage is very conspirative... =)

  • mine too, but this is a bad performance of a great song

  • she is my all time hero

  • aaah this is crazy!

  • Rated it a five. Very refreshing version! And yes, Adrian indeed looks like he is "enjoying" himslf!

  • Amazing.

This is so going into my favorites!

  • are those guys on BVox the Blind boys of Alabama? can anybody tell me?

  • rickrisi - I think that is the Blind Boys of Alabama - what a GREAT band!

  • I love Laurie Anderson's music, and I delight in her spirit, and yes, language is a virus.

  • WOO-HOO!!!

  • Adrian Belew look's like he's having quite a good time, haha.

  • thx for posting this.

  • Excelente show, grande performance...

  • Excelente show, grande performance...

  • Piquant arrangement of a classic Laurie song. A bit of a pastiche between the "Home Of The Brave" album version and the "United States Live" interpretation. Love the Blue trio chorus on this. It's a true shame that it's unlikely to be released on DVD; this has to be one of the best live concerts I've ever seen. Thank you for Enlightening me of it's visual wonders.
