originally they resembled skulls with a little added flair or projections maybe just to add spice or maybe to differentiate between different hollows and since hollow s are deceased beings go figure....

i still fail to see what this has to do with the yoos being a remembrance of noh theater, or being tengu like someone previously mentioned.
