This reminds me of a similar concept that has been around for a while which is a 3D Fabricator that makes the item in a chamber that looks kind of like a microwave oven from a 3D computer program. So you can make cool stuff that sits on your desk. ;>

How is hole created in the 3d object? Eg in a building model a room must have a hole but the roof of that room must be in place, how is that done. because while building a 3d room layers by layers the floor and the side walls may be created as usual but as soon as printing starts for the roof that polymer material will all falldown on the floor. I hope i made myself clear.
the printer head lays down the 'glue' and then a 'sheet' of powder is layered across, so the roof of your building is resting on unglued powder until the thickness to keep it in one peice had been layed down... when its all finished the loose powder is recycled back into the machine leaving the hollowed out inside... :-)
@thepianoaddict thats not true a regular printer lays down ink on paper and the paper absorbs the ink and so the ink doesnt add any depth to the paper and is entirely 2d
@Punnancoilbone but it absorbs it so it sinks in the paper. so it's 3D because the ink changes shape (also in hight) when absorbed. ofcours you got that i was just trollin :P but actually a 2d object can's exist. in this dimention... I think... paper isn't 2d paper has a thickness. any matter has thickness. (but I'm not sure about radiowaves and light but i quess it'll take a long time untill we figure out what those are.) btw if you keep printing on the same spot it will get thicker. :P
@thepianoaddict thats not true a regular printer lays down ink on paper and the paper absorbs the ink and so the ink doesnt add any depth to the paper and is entirely 2d
@Haoito so did you respond to my last comment or my earlier one...? if something is 2d.. it does not exist. because matter allways has thickness and ink is matter. it allway's adds to the thickness, when paper absorbs ink, the paper expands. (gets thicker). please explane why you think it's 2D?
@thepianoaddict The first one. When you print something with a normal printer what you're "printing", is the image, the paper isn't being printed. The picture is just plain 2D, even though it's printed on a 3D surface. And yeah, ink has height but we're not going to go into that, right?
@Haoito Well I just did xD well lets just say that it has so little hight that we can say it is there but it's not enough to discuss about so... I am now ending my side of this discussion :P (that meens I stop replying (but you already knew that :P))
The one that called and Pirillo are talking about different 3D printers.
The printers that Pirillo is talking about actually print parts, fully functional if they are simple things like ball bearings, or cogs.
And these are actually usefull, like for example in arquitecture for printing a building, obviously in scale :).
But the one calling was talking about "3D" prints on paper, that only simulate that it is in 3D, and are really useless. And he said the prices of the real 3D parts printers.
yes , but you have to put alot of time into making them , and they are only hollow paper models , a 3d printer is for people who want to maybe use the parts they printed (if its made of a hard/sturdy plastic) but for just detail the powder printers are the best (zcorp) .

Basically, the technology is advanced to the point now of producing fully functional parts using rapid prototyping systems such as 3D printers.
i have purchased this product works awesome. i bought it from a company called officetronics the first time who scammed me. sold me a refurbished one and told me it was new. officetronics is a scam. after being scammed by officetronics i went to tigerdirect and got it. works great no problems with the unit. i recommend it to anyone just watchout for a company called officetronics who sales products real cheap and passes them off as new when they are used and refurbished.
i saw a show on tv where some guy had created a printer, adapted from a normal inkjet, that printed cells. they demonstrated printing an actual human heart!!!!!!!!!!!!! thay were saying how it could be used for transplant patients. :)
Do a youtube search on 3D printers, I saw a video of one. It's pretty amazing. It prints on some type of paper for each layer of the object for like 5 billion sheets and in a few hours, the paper shrinks into dust and you pull your object out... Go watch a video, it'll explain it better.

soooo... when we pick up a lot of paper, and paper has no height, it's magic that thickens it?

I think the printer uses some kind of support material. When the model is finished you wash it away with special kind of soap.

I've seen it "in action".
The example I saw once was a "printed" adjustable spanner, fully functional.
It's like an inkjet printer that can "print" details such as cogwheels, bars, screws, nuts, etc.
Then you can put all these newly printed parts together, and there you have all your own toy.
