Hey awesome video! About the strum pattern I've been playing it 1 2 + + 4 +. That's is what it looked like, but I'm really damn new. Haha. Thanks for the help and keep making videos!
Side note if anyone hasn't gotten the E-Book you should, its a steal for only $10! It'll help you a lot.
@Diligo123 You're right of course. In fact about a million tunes used the one-six-four-five progression especially in the '50s and '60s.
Songs like "LAST KISS" by J. Frank Wilson & The Cavaliers, "Angel Baby" by Rosie & The Originals, "Goodnight, My Love" by Paul Anka, etc. Many popular songs substituted an A minor (which is the relative minor to C Major, 1, 6, 2-, 5. C6 is identical to A min7, G6 is E Min7, etc.,.) It's the same melody whether you're using the C (4 maj) or A minor (2-).
You're legitimately my favorite guitar teacher from youtube. And i've used a lot including GuitarTutee and Guitar Jamz (Marty Schwartz). On monday on my way back from school, I am definetly stopping at a duane reade to buy an amex gift card so i can download your e-book.
Wow! I never knew this song was written about ether a stalker or a killer. I would have thought the Police song "Murder by Numbers" would be a killer song lol.
@djavocard Ear training comes with practice. After years on the road I can turn my back to your guitar or piano and tell you any note or chord you hit. And my genius piano player in L A could hear every note if I laid my open hand or forearm across his keyboard. In one hour I taught my bass player son how to identify intervals once I gave him the starting note, such as C for instance. He can hear the minor or major 3rd, 4th, flat or augmented 5th, etc, once he's given the starting note.
Thanks for those nice info. Is it possible for you to upload few session on how you did the training? I know this aspect cannot be taught over the internet and one has to dedicate himself here and of course, ear training is not easy. But what i am asking for is ideas :).. may be your inputs might help many of us figure out a pattern or practice routine and will help identify chords/notes to some extent.
Everyone knows TAPS (the bugle song) and it's the 5th below the root, the root (the 1st and the 8th steps and the octave of the diatonic scale) the 3rd and the 5th above. If you train yourself to hear the notes of TAPS and in other songs, then when you hear those notes you'll know what the intervals are. Then take the song PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE. The bass plays A and B♭ (the Maj7 and the tonic) and then the "minor blues" 3rd (D♭) and back to the root. B♭.
@djavocard Continuing, if you learn to recognize the 5th below and above the keynote and the major 3rd (TAPS) and the maj7 below and the minor 3rd above the root (PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE-bass INTRO) you'll be well on your way to ear training. Get someone to play them and tell you what they are, then when they're played again you name the notes and intervals they represent! One hour lesson!
@yourguitarsage Yes, I do. I have the first one and now the upgrade. And I understand the system. But it's really hard for me to read.. Guess I just have to practice it ^^.
@yourguitarsage XD you won't believe it but my Marshall VS 30 and my Gibson Les Paul are also 10 feet away haha ^^ by the way greetings from beautiful Austria :D
Its about a Stalker not a murder, Sting was thinking about Big Brother, control and stuff when writing it...he said in an interview that its from the point of a stalker hunting a girl and that he hates it when people use it for their weddings
