this is just an open question: why are modern "liberals" so obsessed with removing any uncertainty from life? if you think of your individual future as a normal distribution going from positive achievement at one extreme to negative outcomes at the other, 'liberals' either don't mind to (or actively want to) eliminate positive outcomes in their desire to reduce uncertainty about jobs (unions), money (welfare), health (socialized medicine)...but they only end up removing the up-side potential...
