Cool video but the palm trees will never survive winter. I hope they can store them for winter and plant them out again. The palm trees in Vancouver stay out 365 days a year. And they had the winter olympics. Go figure! But Vancouver winters are not nearly as frigid as Chicago. It's too bad that our winters are so darn cold around the Great Lakes.
If that isn't the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a while. More of Daley's ignorant nonsense, turning Chicago into one plastic theme park. Perfectly idiotic, what happens to the trees when it gets down to -10? I grew up there, lived there for nearly 40 years, SO GLAD I moved away forever. The cool rough funky town I knew is no longer.
Perhaps I would agree with you but I'm from Cleveland where our lakefront property has been wasted and so little of it is available to the public for recreation so I'm sorry if I can't relate to you. And for your information, the palm trees are potted and get removed and stored in a climate controled place during the off season.
@paniculture What's your problem? Chicago has gotten beautified...and whats wrong with that? Many people that visit Chicago are extremely impressed with the city. Mayor Daley wanted to make Chicago a more attractive global city....well at least in the downtown region, he did a superb job of beautifying the city.
Chicago is an awesome and beautiful city! I love it there. During the summer we go there once a month for the day just to ride our bicycles on the lakefront trail.
I keep watching this video because it looks so cool seeing the Lake which looks like an Ocean with all the palm trees. I am really inspired by this video so I am blowing off work, getting on my bike, grabbing my uke, and going down there to take it all in!!! Sa'weet!
They went out of buisness so no more palms :(

@paniculture The trees are only there during the summer season. By mid August they are turning brown and dying, and the city get's rid of them.
