@m3devac: also look who you are talking about. Pop is meant to garnish money; gospel singers cater to smaller crowds for inspiration. Personally as long as the world loves what I do, I'm satisfied whether I live in Britain or po-dunk Alabama in a box. U can't put a price on human compassion and love
@7959225 I'm sure they're looking forward to that.. There'll be thousands of your ancestors 'up there' with nothing else to do but wait for you!.. On the other hand, You might just die and there'll be nothing.. And you won't know, cos you'll be dead!
@Rovahead ....Well, I believe that Jesus has gone on to prepare for those who believe, a place in Heaven...If I am right, I have everything to gain, if I am wrong, I have nothing to lose...But I feel very strongly in God, and I have given my life for service for Him, Rovahead. I appreciate your comment, and I pray that you also, have found peace with the Lord in your life. God bless you, and yours..and Merry CHRISTmas to you!!
Y is there so much fighting on this? I love this song and is a great classic hymn! Ive sang it all my life and is my great grandmas, grandpas, dads, and my favorite hymn!
Okay, okay. No more Lookin on the past. Let's look at today and wait for the day we all will join God. I was born in Tupelo, Mississippi and eventually moved to Erie, Pennsylvania. Although I prefer the South(Movin to Nashville when I'm 18) both regions have their ups and downs. And please BUY the song from ITunes or buy the movie soundtrack. God bless all of you.
I remember listening to this while driving with my mom on our way to lay my grandfather to rest through the American Midwest. I'll never get those times back :(
And for people wanting to "share" a copy of this song, please just go on iTunes and pay for their song.
I don't give a sh*t if you pirate Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, or Rihanna because those bitches are waaaay over-paid and over-exposed. Meanwhile, The Kossoy Sisters today are playing in dingy little cafe's and libraries in the country. Please give them a little support if you like their music.
What a wonderful song and version. The song was composed by Albert P Brumley of Powell, Mo. in the early part of the last century. He grew up in the eastern part of Mc Donald county long after the Civil war. There is now a Albert Brumley festival in Springdale, Arkansas in the summer, if I am not mistaken. Mrbobinks
Yes this is a religious song, but dont let your self righteousness get in the way of truth. This was originally sang by slaves in the south where they were oppressed to incredible means. So when your southern congregation meets and you get get a spiritual feeling from this song, remember a young black woman was singing this in hopes she could actually fly away.
yes but just because your southern doesn't mean your a racist slave owner in fact only 2% of the south was slave owners... and black people are as southern as white folk. You people need to stop demoniziing the south because the north owned slave no to far in the past too and they were JUST as racist even MORE so after the civil war...
@ZackAttack261 then again the rich slave owners also pushed poor whites to become racist. They created cheap incentives (a bit of land, a gun) to help ensure they too were racist, thus making poor whites significantly less likely to join/help black slaves in escaping.
Oh, and while the north was certainly not a well spring of tolerance, at the same time the white community didn't routinely hang, oil, and burn negroes that refused to play the subservient fool.
@Influx27 No blacks were beaten to death and frowned upon because alot started moving up north after the war but it was short lived ... but the south continued
@wcgator1996 I suggest that before you post something you might want to get your facts straight first. This song was not originally sung by slaves in the south. It was written in 1929 by Albert E. Brumley and first published in 1932. The idea for this hymn was taken from a single line of a secular ballad called "The Prisoner's Song" that went, "'If I had the wings of an angel, over these prison walls I would fly,'. The lyrics of this hymn, "I'll Fly Away", deal with the Rapture.
@wcgator1996 black men and women may have sung this song during the times of slavary in hopes of escapeing the dark times. this song was also sung in churches during that time period also and at funerals.
It is 'wcgator1996's self-righteousness that makes him hunt for excuses to glorify blacks at the expense of any facts about them now or any time of their actual history. The hatred that truly was directed by whites to Negroes is now turned against whites and history and facts. There are no facts about what black slaves sang that support his claims. He makes the claims only to parade his now-proper status.
Meanwhile, this is a wonderful song, religious or not. Let's hush, and listen, again.
this song was sung at a funeral that i recently attended... and as soon as the chorus hit the whole church was overtaken and overwhelmed with an uplifting glory of god. i know the very special woman who passed was content with the mourning of her departure and the celebration for her arrival into gods great home
The old church ladies sang it friday for my wife grandma funeral, that was so beautiful. I, the arrogant frenchman, was crying like a little girl in a little church of Muskogee, Ok.
This song reminds me of my dear grandma that passed back in '92. She was 6 years from 100. Can't hear this one without getting somethin in my eyes for some reason...
Somehwere there must be away to dream myself away to this peacefull place, the tears of purity just drip from these angels, people listen and please turn the world back to the Lord, a crying nation awaits its salvaltion from the vitriol and hate that has too often swallowed up the good men and women with the bad
It wasn`t just me then that was disappointed when I bought the soundtrack and found the wrong version on it. Its not only the voices on this one that are sweeter but its also the banjo playing along rather than the full band on the soundtrack CD.
I was very upset when I got the soundtrack, this was one of the songs I most wanted exactly as it was in the movie! Very pleased it'sup here, thank you!
