@MaddDogg81 -You dont have too but it does make it easier especially if a ridge has formed on the rotor. If there is a ridge the pads will not be able to 'slip' by and will be like held in place.

@helpyoudiy In one of the vids it shows me separating the pads, you do this to get the pads/caliper over the ridge on the rotor.
