That was cool, well done. I wonder how difficult it would be to take it to the next stage and have X-Men Cyclops 'eye beam' - What program did you use ?
There was no tracking, I used vectors and animated their shape. It ended up being about four separate layers with different levels of blur to get it to look right.

I used Adobe After Effects.
Wouldn't be too hard at all actually, I might try that in a bit.

It looks like you made red solid masked it ,set it to add mode, and tracked it. Is that what you did?
