It's my father-in-law's hobby Inigo93, (Compress-air V-4 Engine, 53,329 views) which seems to be a bit more interesting than shooting a golfball into a watermelon, (3,149 views) or devising a way to make a cheap wind resistant Alcohol Stove, (62 views, 2 are mine). JUST BY STERNO, 2 cans for $5!
@mgdeak You don't have to be a complete ass. He didn't say, well yea, thats cool, it turns, but what the fuck is the point. He said Cue, but I'm curious as to what the point of such a device is. Why don't you tell him instead of of being a complete piss-off.
@aForkandaSpoon Because you are both uneducated and a complete ass, let me school you on the information your mommy, daddy and every failed teacher tried to explain to you. First, don't get involved with something you have nothing to do with.
@aForkandaSpoon Second, learn how to read all posts pertaining to any thread before opening your mouth and looking like a fool. ("This engine uses 20 psi when running at 500 rpm. At that speed (500 rpm) it uses 10 CFM." not "That air would be released into the engine at a 50 - 250 psi regulated pressure. Its a form of green energy basically.) Finally, please never add your two cents to any of my videos. Your information, attitude and lack of knowledge are not welcome.
@mgdeak Do you really thing I am an expert on your engine specifically. The air engines I have seen run on an average of 50 - 250 psi. Just because yours runs 30 psi lower than the norm doesn't mean you have a point to call me on. Why are you so insecure and unhelpful. Why do you have to make me do this, it would have been nice just to give indigo a nice polite answer, but you have to fuck his face off along with CincyBlackCats56. Why make this if your too much of an ass to share info.
@aForkandaSpoon Let me explain my first response. I made sure all pertinent information was posted, please look though all of my posts. I'm very busy and sometimes don't respond as quickly as I'd like, but when I get a chance, I post. Perhaps I took Inigo93's comment in a wrong light, but I believe I explained what I could and felt his curt "cute" comment was unnecessary.
@aForkandaSpoon A lot of people seriously build and discuss these types of engines, and there are quite a few steam engine shows throughout the world every year. I found your previous comments to be not only disrespectful, but rhetorical in nature. I'm willing to let it go. I apologize for anything I've written that may have offended you. You clearly do have some knowledge and are considerate enough to comment. Thank you for that.
@Inigo93 Because people seem uneducated, and unkind on here, I figured I would properly respond to your question. It is an engine designed to run off of compressed air (basically a mechanical battery) Green electricity would be used to compress air to 3000 - 6000 psi. It would then be transferred to a vehicle which has tanks instead of heavy non-env.-friendly batteries. That air would be released into the engine at a 50 - 250 psi regulated pressure. Its a form of green energy basically.
@aForkandaSpoon Looking at your videos, you seem to still be in High School. Do yourself a favor, if you get into college, START LISTENING! If not, you can come cut my lawn for $25.00.
@mgdeak What did I do to you, I think you have anger problems if I am not mistaken. You were a total ass to that guy and I made the point that you were, and YES YOU WERE. I then proceeded to answer his question and was attacked by a college student who knows everything in the whole wide world and I am just a highschooler who doesn't even know what a fraction is. THIS IS BS. I gave good answers to what the use of the device is, you didn't. I really don't have a attitude, you were an asshole.
It would defiantly make it a simpler engine; however, it would need a lot more air pressure and volume. This is actually an engine designed by Rudy Kouhoupt V-4 steam engine which we chose to operated by compressed air. The reason this one was picked is because it's not an average steam engine. On most steam engines the crank-shaft and connecting rod is exposed, (usually lubed with grease cups). This design has an oil-pan, (closed crank case) with oil used as lubricant.
how did you get the cycleders two fire off at diferent times. i have been trying to make one. but more so like 6 paintball guns firing to turn the crank shaft.
how much torque does the engine have?

Cute, but I'm curious as to what the point of such a device is.

how do you make these?!?!?! haha

That looks complicated.. is it CNC milled?

Hello all!
I'm about to load two more engines as well as another angle of this one. There are quite a few and as soon as I can I'll load them all.
mgdeak 2 years ago
did you use check values to let each pitsons get the air they need when they are fired
greerpan 2 years ago
No, they are sliding valves.
mgdeak 2 years ago
Very cool.. but wouldnt it be more efficient to put it (the air) through a turbine and have a gear reduction for torque? just wondering
stoichiometric 2 years ago
That would make this a different style engine. It would become a turbine driven instead of a piston driven engine.
mgdeak 2 years ago
Right, but wouldn't a turbine be more efficient? I dunno. Awesome work btw

Due to convenience we decided to use compressed air as an alternative to steam.

Thanks, I'm happy you like it.

Each individual cylinder has its own sliding valve operated by an eccentric.
mgdeak 2 years ago
Thats bad ass.
Good job :)

My father-in-law built it, as well as many others. When I get a chance I'll put them up too.

Thats some talent.

do you guys sell any small engines like that one?
scorpiojudo 3 years ago
Nice... how much CFM's does this use?
TommeyLeeReed 3 years ago
Hi...sorry it took me some time to get back to you.
This engine uses 20 psi when running at 500 rpm. At that speed (500 rpm) it uses 10 CFM.
