  • Fantastic, love that sliding chord

  • Mick Karn just rips of gquin Chinese playing. Go study it, & make your own material =)

  • I have noticed that Japan seemed to do modulations quite a bit. the were under rated IMO.

  • Have loved flicking through your vids. Lovely to hear those awesome baselines teased out from the background. Mick was such a genius. Back when I used to play bass I learnt the bassline to I second that emotion which I loved. I put the old fretless down years ago much to my regret but good to hear you carry on Mick's tradition. Thanks for sharing.

  • Terrific, man!

And a great homage to this great musician that, sadly, passed away two days ago.

  • @Refrescospepito

    Thanks man

    He'll be sadly missed

  • @Refrescospepito no it was more than two days ago.

  • yay. i was only thinking about this song today - got it out on the old LP and then decided to see what was on here - and there it is. thanks.

  • Are you using any effects my friend?

  • @bassatnight

Not on this one mate no

    Chorus sometimes.

  • Mick karn is the man. great playing. I intend to go fretless very soon, and had a quick question about intonation. do you have to finger right on the fret line to get the proper sound, or right behind the fret line? I've read both, but i'm not sure which is correct. peace

  • Its right behind the fret so that when the string starts to angle away from the board, it does so AT that line.

Thats the thing with fretless that gives it the buzz. when the string is fingered the break away is gradual. A fret is round and high and creates an EXACT pivot point for the string. Hence "precision Bass"!

  • thanks for the tip. I intend to get this line down as my first Fretless song.

  • oh my gosh! awesome playing:)

  • great stuff mate!

  • Another great lesson, thanks mate.

  • When I used to play Mick Karn bass lines I remember having blisters all over my index fingers. I couldn't get anywhere near them but you make it look easy.

  • You're a gent, thank you.

  • Brilliant playing and an inspiration to players like me. I gave up playing fretless bass after trying and failing to play Karn bass lines in the early 80s but thanks to your wonderful utube videos, it's now 2009 and I want to pick up my bass and play all over again. Great work and lovely playing!

  • Thank you that means a lot to me.

Get out your bass and start noodling TODAY!! You'll feel all the better for it.

  • Fantastic. Keep up the good work!

  • Lovely stuff. God knows how you reverse engineer these basslines!

  • I always loved this track...thanks for your fantastic lessons...it´s a pleasure to watch your videos..

  • No Body in the Bass department sounds like Mick Karn but this guy did a great job and understands major and miner scales unlike MICK KARN where KARN had to learn from David Torn Mick new open strings but did not know what not whent to what. Mick Karn know understand Notes but back then he look at differnt colors on the bass for highs and lows.

  • this song so reminds me of being young.loving your playing mate.

  • Mr Karn would be proud of his wee bald protege!

    The bass sound ninja-star!

Karn is too spontaneous to really crack, but *you* seem to have.

I don't he can replicate live himself, what he records.
