Equatorial Guinea was not the only Spanish colony in Africa because Western Sahara was an Spanish colony until 1975 and the colonies of Ifni (present Southern Morocco) and Riff (present Northern Morocco) were also Spanish colonies until 1957.

When Spain gave Independence to Equatorial Guinea in 1968 it was the richest county in Subsaharan Africa, same as it is now.
