Oh god,I remember meeting Martin Stephenson when he came to my halls of residence in Newcastle in 85,lovely bloke. This takes me back to very happy times !
There are very few artists/acts that I would buy every album they issued, usually preheard, but this guy with or without the Daintees is one of the best. He has never disappointed and always made me feel as though I should have written most of those wonderful songs because they feel so close to home. Many thanks Martin, and I wish you many more years of wonderful songs.
gd stuff, proud North east refugee in Cambs for last 32 years.Home here heart in Darlo allways will be.Saw him at junction Cambridge in mmm around mid 80s.
Does anyone remember Trouble Town? I have it on a 45 vinyl but, alas, because of progress I am unabe to play it. I am surprised not to find it on YouTube.
I first saw Martin and the Daintees at the 'Slaughterhouse' in Munich, Germany 1988 and was blown away. Next time was the Hippodrome at Bristol in 1989 and got to 'dance' with him as they did a walkabout in the audience!! And in 92 again in Bristol during the final tour of the Daintees... I can never forget his songs, his style, his class, his overall joy of life... Martin, thank you for being a part of my life!!
A band and song introduced to me by someone I loved and lost by my own choices ... bittersweet memories, but still good. Smile whenever I listen & think of the times we had ... xx
God great memories,I remember those days with a smile. Also a little sadness great lads like Mouse,Jimmy Kelly,Fozzie,Marky&Cooky RIP boys.
These songs remind of you all.Ku club in Sunderland, some great nights, great friends.
Mouse giving me and Paula his last £5 to het a taxi home when her purse was nicked, and walked home from Seaburn to Farringdon.God bless ya. Siobhan aka Paddymackem
God yeah. Funny you should mention the birmingham gig hairybosch. I saw them support john martyn and thought that they were great then got a ticket to see them in brum. must have been 87 but my car broke down on the way. I later met some great cool friends that had been at the gig. it takes me back.
I first saw Martin Stephenson and the Daintees at Cliff's Pavilion - Westcliff on-Sea in '82 - they were supporting John Martyn (who died yesterday sadly) on his 'Well Kept Secret' tour and it was one of the best & most memorable evenings I have ever had. I then met him at Cambridge folk festival in the club tent in about '87/'88. I particularly love 'Coleen' and 'Rain'. This is the 1st time I've heard him for ages, it brings back some warm, fuzzy feelings - old romantic that I am.
I was a student in Brum at the time and was at that gig. Phenominal! I've just bought Boat to Bolivia on the strength of watchin' this vid. I'd forgotten how good these guys were.
around the time of Talk Talk's Colour of Spring I bought it after hearing "Rain" one of my favourite songs, would love to see footage of him singing that.
I count myself lucky to have grown up in the 80's when we had so many literate singer / songwriters around...what happened to that ambition? all we have these days is mindless dance music and tired re-treads of Led Zepplin riffs...I'll take refuge in my record collection from 1980-89.
This has brought back such great memories. MGS still a fine purveyor of great music and lyrics and good to see someone who has aged worse than I have...he looks about 14 for God's sake
thanks for posting this!! I remember watching this 100 times over after videoing it off the tv back when i was a teenager! i met MS about 10 yrs ago he was really cool. Also, this is the 1st vid on youtube i've seen with less hits than mine!
