I might get some hate for this but I thought Joseph Gordon Levitt's acting was kind of....off in the Lookout. He was definitely solid but there were a few times I thought he kind of hammed it up. Other than that I thought Jeff Daniels and Mathew Goode were both great!
You bought the Lookout? I have pretty mixed feelings on that one. It just wasnt gritty enough for me. A tidy, semi-hokey movie about bank robbers? Meh.
@JoyousExultation117 Yeah, I really dig THE LOOKOUT. Probably because I love Joseph Gordon Levitt and I thought the vibe was really cool and set more in reality than like the gritty crime films. And HARD EIGHT is VERY good. I haven't seen it in a while but I remember loving it. Definitely PT Anderson's lesser film but still incredible.
CONTROL starring Sam Riley. Oh and if you can ever watch my favorite guilty pleasure ever GET OVER IT, I'd love it. It stars both Ben Foster and Colin Hanks and Sisquo.
A Japanese Anime full length movie like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke or even better, Grave of the Fireflies. orrrrr a Brasilian movie like Central Station, City of God, or even better, Elite Squad.
Any one of those would rock.
Have a fantastic time in Ireland and eat well (there's more to the food there than potatoes)
I would like you to review some of Darren Aronofsky's films. Either Pi, The Fountain, Requiem For A Dream or The Wrestler. Also some Kubrick, man! Can't believe you never seem to talk about him.
watch slc punk it looks lame but give it a chance its a little to edgy for me bu I still loved it on netflix play instantly and if you like it maybe you could give me a shoutout i was already a huge film fan but you videos got me into the cohen brothers sorry for the bad spelling i am a 14 year old boy who is terrible with spelling
Hey! I just recently came across your reviews after finding Leland and then listening to both of you on NitPicket. Great stuff! I hope you guys keep up the great work! Best of luck on the exams and I'm sure you'll have a FANTASTIC trip :D I'd recommend you checking out Hunger. I watched it the other day and it made a huge impression- difficult to watch, but well worth it imo :) Happy St. Paddy's Day!!
as your bouncing to Ireland i guess its appropriate to recommend a little Irish independent film called ADAM AND PAUL, i liked it alot and would love to hear your take on it.
Have you seen any Akira Kurosawa, Howard Hawks, John Ford, John Huston or Bergman films lately? Also would love to hear what you think of the Nick Cave-penned, Aussie Western "The Proposition".
Also, for an Ireland-themed review, either "My Left Foot" or "In the Name of the Father"?
Maybe, for an Ireland-themed movie, either "My Left Foot" or "In the Name of the Father", both directed by Jim Sheridan, both starring Daniel Day-Lewis and both taking place in Ireland?
I live in Ireland, maybe I'll see you there haha. Just to say, movies like Remember Me and She's out of my League haven't even come out yet over here. The only movies that I'll think you'll be interested in are The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I Love you Philip Morris.
haha, well if you do see me on the streets and recognize me, say HI! lol, that'd be awesome. Yeah, I think I might check out I LOVE YOU PHILIP MORRIS. I also heard CHLOE was open over there and I'm very intrigued by that premise. Seriously though...if you see me, yell, "Aaron! Durden85! I love your reviews!" or something like that. haha.
Julien Donkey Boy...interesting lol. Hopefully Werner Herzog's appearance in it will make it a little more bearable to watch. Have a great time in Ireland, though! I have never been to Europe so I'm jealous.

Yes, actually! I saw it about two months ago but never posted a review for it...mostly cuz I thought it was kinda "meh"...the swearing felt reeeeeally forced and excessive to me and I usually could care less about that stuff. It was all right though.
I've never seen Tank Girl but always remembered seeing the VHS box in stores as a youth! haha. And which John Waters film do you recommend I start with...I've heard Pink Flamingos is polarizing, lol.
definitely do not start off with pink flamingos, you kinda have to work your way up. i suggest start off with something like like hairspray, serial mom or cry baby, then polyester (its kind of the halfway point between his main movies and his others.) his trash trio is so genius its a must see but dont start off with it.
I think I remember you saying in one of your reviews that you hadn't seen Bright Star yet. I'm not usually into the whole period piece romance genre, but I thought that it was a wonderful film. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it :)
You should see IT MIGHT GET LOUD, being the music fan you are. It's a documentary on three amazing guitarists coming together: Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge.
It's been on my queue for a while...my only problem I might have with it is I cannot stand U2! hahaha, but I'll porb check it out for sure. Thanks as always Jordan!
Good luck on finals and have an awesome time in Ireland! I'm extremely jealous. I got to go to europe when I was a junior in high school and it's still the best vacation that I've ever been on. You picked up some awesome films. I loved Thirst and Big Fan!
As far as a recommendation I'd say the film Turtles Can Fly. I don't like the title but it's a look at iraq from their perspective before we invaded. It may sound like a documentary but it's not.
I've heard a lot about Turtles Can Fly! I've heard it's saaaaad. But I'll definitely check it out soon! Thanks for the recommendation and for always watching Kyle!

CHOPPER (eric bana's best role in my opinion)
A BITTERSWEET LIFE (best korean gangster film)
KUNG FU HUSTLE (yes, I love this movie)
SUPER TROOPERS
KENNY(an australian mockumentary about a plumber)
INFERNAL AFFAIRS(what THE DEPARTED was inspired by)
THE MAGICIAN(another Oz mock/doc but about a hitman, you can probably find it on ebay)
NIGHT WATCH (russia's genre twisting film)
and a possibly a film in which everybody hates but you actually love

I loved Baghead. I am a big fan of Alan ball and I thought it was brilliant.
Julian DOnkey Boy is also great But I think everything Harmony Korine does is brilliant, esepecailly Gummo.
Have fun, good luck. see you around the 26th.

I think you're thinking of Towelhead by Alan Ball...also an excellent film. But Baghead is a mumblecore horror/comedy that's EXCELLENT!
durden85 1 year ago
Oh that's right. I always confuse the two. I was not really a fan of Baghead but I did think Humpday was an improvement. and i can't wait for Cryus.

I had low expectations for She's Out of My League, but I thought it was really funny. I hope you enjoy it.
Two questions:
1) Is the Wendy and Lucy DVD the Wendy and Lucy of DVDs? (you don't have to answer that)
2) Will you be seeing Hot Tub Time Machine when you get back?
bramb600 1 year ago
1) Best question EVER asked. And yes, it is the "Wendy and Lucy" of DVDs.
2) Most definitely. I can't get enough of hearing the line "Ohhhh, then you'll have to talk to girls with your mouth!" haha
