  • Awesome

  • I do not know of what the sharpies did I was to young, but I am a huge fan of Lobby Loyde and his music, every era has a fad attached to it good bad or otherwise we learn to appreciate the music and the artist.

  • Trevor young drums

  • Could someone put up their cover Whole Lotta Shakin' from Ball Power because that rocks my socks.

  • As usual Sharpies were tough in groups but when they were on their own they used to shit themselves. I was in a brawl with them outside The Catcher and got the shit kicked out of me but I managed to flatten a couple of them first. Good fun when I think about it!!!!

  • And now they (the ones that are still alive) claim some kind of cultural- pop-fashion-social status just because they were a scumbag movement that got nowhere fast. Now they have exhibitions of thier low life trash violent ethics in trendy art galleries, thank god for cancer & hepc is all can say about those pricks. Long live Aussie hard rock, without the shithead skins & sharps, fucking pimples......

  • @Zzwydx You clearly took a hiding of some Sharpies at some point when you were younger to be so bitter. ha ha ha

  • @alanfacer he's right. lobby said the coloured balls disbanded when he saw someone getting glassed in the shit house of a melbourne pub.

  • badass mullets

  • Sharpies were scum in Australia. They were nasty little tossers who liked to bash people. I remember them going on masse to Phillip Island to beat the living daylights out of surfies down there. When they got there the surfies were there in numbers so the sharpies all went home. Seriously nasty cowardly little freaks.

  • Phil Rudd spent time with the Balls in 74.

  • Sharpies in full glory!

  • No it`s not phil rudd on drums. Phil rudd was in a similar band around this time though called Buster Brown. Angry Anderson from Rose Tattoo also sung in Buster Brown before he joined Rose Tattoo.

  • is that Phil Rudd on drums

  • Band Of Light did at least one GTK session.Should be five or six songs.Seeing these after so many years (I was a cameraman at the ABC ) is pretty good. The original picture /video quality was like liquid mercury and yeah it was fucking loud.

  • Sharpies!!!! FTW

  • what a blitzkreig. Mind blowing stuff for 1972.

  • thats it man... awesome

  • Yeah fuck Yeah !!!!!! Rock On

  • What year is this?

  • Sharps rule O.K.!!

  • Vale Lobby.

    Vale Rock'n'Roll.

  • Reverse Kubrick phrenetic cam!!!

  • I thank Sleazegrinder for having a page about these guys on his site. Makes me think of what Cream would've sounded like hyped up on speed or something.

This is true rock and roll, man. We need more of this now.

  • SHARPIE ROCK N ROLL

  • The band woulda kept goin if it weren't for sharpies. The sharpie's persuit of violent recreational activities caused the demise of this band and many others. Sharpies and skins were nothing but maggots.

  • It stands for Get To Know.

It was a 10 minute show that had a live set by a different band on the ABC.

As for archive's I'm sure there are heaps of reels of this stuff.

  • Unfortunately it's rumored that many of the videotapes were re-used. I personally would love to see early "Buffalo" or "Band Of Light" clips. Years of searching has provided nothing

  • What does GTK stand for? How long did the show run for on the ABC?

Are there any archives of footage available?

  • It stands for Get To Know, as they always aired up and coming aussie bands. I'm not sure about an archive tho.

  • the singer has got a big nose :D

    he ie Lobby Loyde?

    4* good music!

  • Same opinion as their "Human Being" clip, Coloured Balls are awesome!!! Must say Lobby looks years younger with a mullet and no facial hair.

  • Lobby Lives! Saw the Coloured Balls at the V ietnam Moratoriam Concert at the Richmond City Oval in 1972 with Mumbles and the Sharps running amok

  • I used to watch GTK as a little girl-I remember this...God,I'm a 103.

  • Never realised how good this guy was, only ever heard the Psycho's cover of GOD years ago.

You'd put Lloyde alongside Iommi and Gallagher any day of the week. Different styles; all had the same idea, all so far ahead of their time, all three balltearingly good.

  • Lobby Loyde and the Coloured Balls biggest hit was Luv U Babe. They were huge in the Skinhead Culture circa 73-74, in Melbourne. What about Sydney, Any info

  • In Sydney he was seen as a bit of a representitive of the skinheads so he wasn't to popular with the music lovers. He was fondly remembered in Sydney as a member of Mick Hadly's Purple Hearts in the 60s. His playing was also a bit more disiplined then.

  • wall to wall balls

  • Never heard of this group before.

  • That should be Coulored Balls. I always rememebr this track, heavy bass....duh duh duh duh-duh, duh duh duh duh-duh

    Just when you think

    You have seen everything

    There is something new babe

    Look every where

    Life feels good

    Look every where

    Life feels good

  • Oh yes, the excellent "Ball Power" album.

  • I saw them at Melbourne Town Hall. It was my first ever concert. I might have been 14-15. They were on stage and throwing all these coloured balls in the audience. I thought what the f!. I bought their album, Coloured Calls I think. The cover had the band looking onto a pool table with coloured balls on it. Corny now.

  • If I understand correctly, Coloured Balls only managed to record two albums before going down in flames. Only two albums! That's like being stuck with just "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black" for an eternity! Oh well, if this video gives even a fair impression of their work, we truly were blessed by the rock gods.

  • It's so lobby loyde this tune! Heaviness, clarity, the weird melody in the chorus! jump fuckin around! yeah!

  • i used to be a real; fan of them in the 60's --used to go to a club in brisbane called ? [cant remember]--max merritt and the meteors played there a lot--never thought i would ever see or hear them again--thank you--Tim

  • connies ,platforms(head beaters) 3 stars (tatts on wrists)viscounts tucked in tee shirt sleeve on the shoulder, lighter tucked in the waist, sharpie dance, and general scallywag behaviour, every suburb had em ,chicks had similar look and anti social attitude, grouse...those were the days ,never see their likes again, girls of summer....angel face, cum feel the noize, hot love, most ppl i know,g.o.d.,human being, whole lotta shakin,glam...sharps...culture..

  • Amazing to find this! I was a cameraman on this wild fantastic session. They were such scary fuckers and so far ahead of their time .R.I.P Lobby

  • Classic Coloured Balls - Fuck it takes me back. I feel 35 years younger....

  • Ball power! Those Sharpie haircuts must have been pretty threatening back in '73 ... someone needs to write a book/make a movie about the Sharpie's cultural impact. Vale Lobby!

  • @gregreedee - sharpies were a social menace who were sole bent on bashing anyone with long hair & usually hung out in packs of 10-20 or more-& yes they were threatening for that reason. In Sydney 1969-1972 there were regular punch ups @ gigs & venues. Inner city-Enmore/Redfern & East Hills line-Panania sharps were tough & 2 B avoided @ all costs. As for "cultural impact" think Vandals & Rome ! The only redeeming factor 4 Sharpies is that they liked Lobby- Godfather of heavy rock! Sharps Fuckoff !

  • More Lobby Loyd & The coloured balls. Hope you can understand how fuckin rare this is!

Australias best and HEAVIEST guitarist together with Billy Thorpe and Buffalo!
