is it a good daily driver and easy to park in the 4 door though? cause it looks like a tank for me. would love a 2 door, but its impractical. they cost 45k for a 4 door 2012 here in australia.. base model.
@MrSnubzy Ouch you must get screwed on import taxes. Base for a two is 22k over here. According to google the exchange rate is 1 AUS to 1.04 US so its pretty close. I'm a Jeep guy but 44k for a base, I'd get something else.
the best small 4x4 is the LR Defender but since we cannot get it in the US, this is a good option. They really should throw in a nice diesel in the line. it's a comfortable 4x4 that can be beaten and go pretty much anywhere but you cannot compare it a sedan. this is a niche vehicle for people who don't want to be seen in a prius or volt. really need more engine options. But is there anything like driving in an open top jeep in the summertime? no.
@whatever04811 Hard to say I've had 2 XJs and they have been awesome, 260k miles on the first one. My brother has a WJ and its a piece of crap. Same engine in all three of them, I dont' get it.
wrangler unlimted or mustang gt? im 21 and my dads buying it which one? and i make $28,000 and im single so i have no one else to think of but id like to keep this car for at least 10 years. which one? and also lol take in the fact i might be married by then right now im a ensign in the united states navy and i will get a promotion in another year to the next rank. help please :)
@TheKidNamedRoland i was in the same position as you man, I live in canada so the mustang dosent work for me, im going with the jeep. But ethier way make sure you get the features you want at the dealer and not later on.
I would go mustang is your spending time on the streets and in a climate that can let you drive one, i have no choce but the jeep ( i used to drive a jag) since i go hiking, skiing, mountian biking and camping lots. Plus with my schooling i need it to last.
We have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited and trust me it is a surprisingly good commuter, other than the gas mileage, the 6-speed manual is great and the ride is surprisingly well, even with aftermarket wheels and bigger tires. There is a strange feel that makes this fun-to-drive, it doesn't handle well, but it just makes you want to drive it. I wouldn't have an automatic in one, it just isn't really good during off road maneuvers.
@coolgames14 Could be. If I have time tomorrow, maybe I'll call the dealership just for fun.
Look at how long the 4.0 I6 ran; it was just a reworked version of the old 258 AMC engine, and Chrysler is known for being the poorest of the Big Three so they reuse everything they can as long as they can.
@coolgames14 I'm not hopeful for Chrysler; since 1997, the company has been in European hands due to corporate bungling and mistakes, going all the way back to Lee Iacocca's tenure.
I like some of the offerings, but we need a real affordable performance car and the Challenger ain't it. They haven't given us anything like that since 1974 and I think the remedy is one of the sporty concept cars they've shown over the years, like the Copperhead.
I don't like the grill, I like the tj and yj front end better regardless of how un-aerodynamic it is, and I think they look better with black fender flares and black or tan top instead of all one color
@soyntgo4it Because the review posted just previous to this one was the Civic Hybrid. I simply made the observation that this car stops shorter, and that fact was surprising to me. I'd assume a compact sedan would have a shorter stopping distance than a tall, off-road oriented utility vehicle. The observation has more to do with tires. If the Jeep has all-terrain tires, it compares them to low-rolling-resistance tires.
@neostardust Alot of the Hybrids have brake distances are longer than most think it has to do with the batteries from what I heard. Most manufacturers have a fix for it now to reprogram the cars computer to help out the braking system. I have heard bulletins going out to dealership to be aware of the problem and fix the car before its sold..
Just sold my 2008 Sahara 4 door (Lease Return) and will in the future buy another one. I had two complaints with mine the 3 years I owned it. The interior fit/finish which they updated in 2011, and the lack of power from the 3.8 V6 which of course now is the new 3.6 V6 Pentastar making 83 more HP and 23 lb-ft of Torque. Awesome vehicle if you live in snow country like I do.
It will be interesting to see how long these pentastar engines last. New aluminum vs. the old cast iron block....

It would be great to see a luxurious version of the wrangler, one full of leather, wood and aluminium, instead of plastic and more plastic.
sarokas12 2 weeks ago
@sarokas12 That goes against it's utilitarian heritage. You can order some rather luxurious trim levels though. Italy will see to it ;).
