  • ooh, I like your hair in this video! How did you do it? Bobby pins?

  • Vitamin E is used as a form of preservative > Tocopherol in your skincare products

  • Which oil(s) is most important

  • I'm sorry, vitamin E is actually NOT a preservative, it is an antioxidant. A lot of people use this unknowingly. If your using your products for your use only, make sure you store your products in the refrigerator and you probably want to throw it out after a week. However, it is a not a safe way to preserve your products if you plan on retailing them.

  • Please take this as a complement :)

You look like a love child of Beyonce and Michael Jackson :D

And thank you for the info too.

  • natural is good

  • A great tip about Vitamin E is to take the capsules you *I take daily* pure 5000 iu per capsule. Pop it with a knife or pin and mix it with your daily lotion over your entire body. Also, it works heavenly on scars and and face. I put a capsule oil *entire thing* every night after applying my my retina to my face. I will get on your pillow and on your face is sticky when spread alone but so worth it! My favorite cocoa butter is ura Cacia Organic Cocoa Butter you can get it cheap at vitacost.

I mixed shea butter, cocoa butter with jojoba oil and coconut oil and I use it for my body after shower.my skin never was so smooth (maybe when I was a baby :) ) great video

  • there are so many conflicting answers to what I'm looking for: how do you dilute the EO in the CO? I hear 4-6 for 1tbsp or 6-10 for 1oz. Appreciate it, thanks

  • Great information and tea tree oil is a preservative, only the smell is not great, honey is one also...thanks...TRACK

  • Thanks for your video it is very helpful! You are so pretty by the way :)

  • Great I'm already in the hole financially. Now I can't wait to use my last few dollars on Vit. E & more oils & butters! Whole Foods here I come LOL!!! Totally didn't know Vit. E was a preservative. I used to use my fathers E capsules as lip gloss as a teenager lol.

  • I'm glad I can buy all this stuff in one place! I was worried I'd have to get some of these oils online.

  • sorry, there is just one HEALTHY oil = cococococococococnut hehehe (virgin)

  • All good info, but as far as essential oils go, I would recommend the "Young Living" brand instead. They use a different distillation process that doesn't involve heating the oil and the resulting product is significantly more concentrated and beneficial. This company sells carrier oils two, as well as many other products.

  • I just want to say thank you thank you thank you!!!! I recently made the choice to go natural when it comes to hair and body products. I love your video!!! I learned a lot! Thanks for telling me I can purchase everything from Whole Foods too lol I would've never guessed ^_^

  • This was a very educating video. I never knew the difference between oils before and today it saved me from looking like a fool when going into a whole foods store. Thanks. :)

  • What do you mix together to make All Natural Hair Shampoo and Conditioner ? And Also, What are some different oils you put in your hair for everyday or every other day usage?

  • Hi! I was just wondering - can I make my own perfume (or body splash) out of essential oils? What should I buy and mix them with? And what do you think of the brand Now Foods?

I am not pregnant, nor have I high blood pressure, so I dont need to think about that before I buy it. But what should I not spritze on my skin? Is there something that can be harmfull when i have it on my skin and come in contact with the sun...?

Great vid btw, you sure know what you are talking about! : D

  • Wow!! If only she had a perm.

  • @beloit22 why does she need one?

  • what is aloe vera juice used for?

  • this was a fantastic video! I mix my own homemade products as well, and you gave me a few tidbits I didn't know. :-) I haven't tried a few of the carriers you have, so I'm going to try them out! Thanks sis!

  • Can you do a video on how to mix the hair creams?

  • lol its funny i use castor oil as a gel too

  • essential oils are soooo amazing!! :)

  • so what can we create with these?? I would like to try them out. Infact im pretty much, going to buy all of the products mentioned in the video

  • @Niesha18C , hey I am one that watches these videos fall in love with a recipe and go out and buy whatever is mentioned and I just want to suggest that before you buy all of these things, that you start out with maybe 5 items (oils, preservatives, butters) and see how often you actually make a mix, how long it lasts, etc. and this is just a suggestion so u don't end up like me with a cabinet full of stuff that I haven't even used...

  • @tiprenee yea, I think i was over exaggerating a little, but I DO want to use natural oils and things, I just dont have a near by whole foods market.. thanks though

  • Guys Are you trying to prevent going bald or possibly even reverse your hair loss?

A good scalp massage with a carrier oil such as jojoba oil (1 fl oz.) and 4 drops of lavender oils and 4 drops of rosemary oil. You will not believe your results!

All these oils are of the highest quality and very low prices at iherb.com !

Use promotion code HUD135 to receive $5 off your first order!

  • Very helpful, thank you.

  • Why did you stop using these oils and start with more products?

  • thanks so much, you speak so well, love it.

  • where do you find these oils?

  • Love this video...I have been trying to find all the ess, and carrier oils and you did a great job on this vid...☺

  • the shea butter looks like mashed potatoes!!!!! LOL

  • Nice video! I make my own stuff too and thought I'd share some of my tips. Be sure your carrier oils say "cold or expeller pressed". Otherwise they may have been extracted with petrochemicals. If you like lemon or lemongrass try may chang oil. try cape lavender instead of lavender. if you like light carrier oils like apricot kernel and sweet almond try passionfruit seed and camelina. also, you can steep dried herbs in carrier oils at 170 degress for an hour to create an herbal infused oil

  • @sms1777 Thanks for the tips =)

  • you have beautiful eyebrows!

  • hello mae, you are the best!! but my question is, do/can you mix all of those oils in one spray bottle?

  • Is there a difference between the vitamin E liquid and oil? I'm making a mix of coconut oil, shea butter, black castor oil, aloe vera and maybe lemon grass (not sure what I want it to smell like yet). I'm attempting to make a deep conditioner! Anything that you think I should add, or take away?! Natural hair is such a trail and error thing I'm realizing.

  • which oils would you recommend that I mix for deep conditioning and even daily conditioning?

  • Thank you so much,i wasnt really sure what kind of products to use to mix.I wasnt sure that they were REALLY organic..there is alot of scams with this kinda stuff lOl.

  • You can get most natural hair products (essential/carrier oils, aloe juice, leave-ins, shampoos, etc) on iherb.com for a great deal (my staple website). Just got aloe juice from there. They also have great discount right now and they have a flat shipping rate of $4 but depending on the weight of your order, you might as little as $2 for shipping. Here is a coupon for you ladies and gents to use for $5 off: ARU392 (this is for first time orders). Many people can use it.

    Happy New Year 2011!!

  • Awesome you did great with your presentation I don't have all the oils but will soon do u use them alone or do u mix them I just went natural can u tell me how to make a good mixture with some of your oils and can I use the essential oils by themselves or in something thanks

  • Thanks TooCuteDestiny for the response.I actually use tea tree oil in my mix already!

  • Thanks for all the info. You mentioned a few oils I do not have already.

  • Thx 4 all that information!! I found it very helpful. I don't use alot of different oils, but I will now!! Can't wait 2 c how they do on my hair!! U really did a great job explaining!! Thx again.

  • OMG this is the best video about essential & carrier oils ever. Thanks so much :)

  • I heard you should buy your EVOO in a dark bottle because it too can go rancid from light.

  • Vitamin E is a natural preservative...thanks for that info...didn't know that

  • you r absolutely amazing, i adore all the natural stuff as well =)

  • 1st of all your absolutely stunning! lol second of all thank you for this information I am very fan of essential oil n all natural products but never had this much knowledge about it so thanx

  • I'm glad you explained the active purposes of each oil...I'm only a week in since my BC. I've seen so many product tutorials, but none this detailed. It can be overwelming but you did great on this.

  • thank you for this video. very informative! Also, for the castor oil you used to slick down your sides, do you add water to it? i always thought castor oil would be really messy and gooky (if thats a word) lol

  • @TashurRaquel Another reviewer mixes her castor oil with water and then she uses it as a spritz.

  • Very informative video thanks. I love whole foods as well lol.

  • Hey! Love your videos. Very informative!! I was wondering, when you make your mixes, do you add only vit. E as a preservative? Or something else too? Also, how much? Thank you so much in advance!!

  • Can you order Trader Joes online? There isn't one in Texas.

  • Great video. Is there a specific way you use your sweet almond oil? I have a little batch of some and I'm not sure what to put it in!

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this video. You've just made me feel better that I'm on the right track and not crazy about carrier oils and essential oils. I'm just not sure how much is too much when making your own shea butter mixture with EOs and carriers. Any suggestions. I'm going to check out the rest of your videos.

    Thank you Chica

    jins

  • another Q ^^ lol when storing my carrier oils should I add some vitamin E so when I am ready to make more products it is still "fresh". . ..how much should I add?

  • could i use a liquid multivitamin as a preservative?

    GREAT VIDEO!

  • Nikki, where did you purchase the vitamin E? You mentioned where you purchased all your other products but not the vitamin E. Is it safe to assume that it was purchased at Whole Foods also?

  • I C U R making wholefoods rich lol.G8 information Thanks

  • I am wondering do you use shea butter on your face?? because i put some on my neck and i never break out there but as soon as i put it there i started to break out.

  • i like your eyebrows

  • i looked at aloever juice, but wasn't sure if it would be the same or better than the aloe vera gel

  • @soursop i have both. lol i have the extra strength organic ones

    love them

  • Hi Nikkimae,

Again I want to thank you for sharing your natural remedies, this is really inspiring I am two weeks in to wearing the unrefined shea and coconut oil on my skin and hair and I must say I really happy with how well it clears my skin and liven up my natural hair. I was recently diagnosed with having hormonal issues so I am just now learning that all of my store bought products could have something to do with this.

Question could you elaborate on the carrier oils and what they do?

  • what are scented oils use for?

  • How about argan oil?

  • Loved this video! I use a lot of the same oils and products you use. And I love them!! :)

  • This was a lot of helpful info...thank you.

  • Hey Mae. Quick ques. If I want to use some rosemary oil, can I apply it directly to the scalp from the bottle or do I HAVE to mix it with a carrier oil before applying. I have EVOO to mix it with, I just wanted to ask if it was necessary. What do u think?

  • I'm feeling this vid. We have a lot of the same products and when it comes to natural products for my hair, I'm a product junkie :D Today, I walked out of Whole Foods with 10 essential oils (which upped my grand total to 15) and some Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Condish. After that, I hit WalMart and got a mini food processor and purchased a 12-pack of 4 oz. mason jars with lids (so cute). I'm about to get my mixtress on! I'm about learning some new mixes and creating some of my own!

  • Excellent video, very imformative

  • kimmaytube rocks!

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Thanxx much; very informative!!!

  • Thanxx a lot 4 d info... very informative!!!

  • Hi Kimmay sent me!!!

  • great job on the vid!

  • Hydrogen peroxide is really good with drying out zits. I use it as a spot treatment. I use noxzema's exfoliating cleanser for my face. Does anyone know of a natural exfoliant that I can purchase and use with a sensitive skin face wash?

  • Baking soda is a really great exfoliant. Just sprinkle some on a washcloth, add a little water to make a paste and scrub your face or body with it. It's the only exfoliant I use and people always complement me on my skin when I use it.

  • Hi Kimmaytube sent me!

  • good video

  • Hey Nikkimae...I noticed that a few of your carrier oils are refined vs unrefined. Aren't unrefined oils supposed to be better for your hair than refined oils?

  • KT sent me! LOL

  • Kimmaytube sent me!

  • kimmaytube sent me !!!!!!!

  • Kimmaytube sent me, like ur channel!

  • Great info and Kimmay sent me your website.

  • Great video! Just FYI tea tree oil is also a preservative...just an added bonus. So you can add it to all of your homemade natural products to get a longer shelf life!

  • WHat an informative video!!...you really do your research...!

  • nice video and you're very well spoken its refreshing.

  • good video

  • how much did the whole foods oils cost?

  • Great video as always Mae. Next, you need to show us how to put them together:) I'm gradually growing my collections of oils, essential oils and being from West Africa I'm rediscovering the wonders of shea butter and coconut oil which my own grandmother makes.

  • Thank you for sharing this video. One of my hair goals is to experiment with home made hair care products. This video is going to help me with my goal. Thanks!

  • Thanks for another informative video.
