I'm always surprised when people, including Dante, say they prefer "Gremlins 2." It's good, it's funny, but I prefer the more horror-oriented original and didn't really like how they just made it a comedy when they did the sequel.
@happyfa5 >> I actually wrote a spec script (mainly just for fun) for a Gremlins 3, but Billy and Kate are only at the beginning and end because it's mainly focused on their son Randy, who is put in charge of caring for Gizmo...and chaos ensues. Although Billy does have the honor of killing the last Gremlin at the end. Kinda feels a lot like Small Soldiers, which even Joe mentioned was his version of a Gremlins 3.
Joe Dante is one of the most underrated of all the directors. Explorers was a good movie but my favorite movies he directed were Space Jam and Looney Tunes Back In Action. Small Soldiers sucked however. Inner Space was a good one. I never saw Gremlins or Twilight Zone the movie. He really hasn't directed anything new as of late and I hope he can in the future.
@jazzalex22 Dante didn't direct "Space Jam," and in fact directed "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" because he felt "Space Jam" was an embarrassment to the characters. He has a new movie called "The Hole" that has been playing at film festivals since 2009, but hasn't been distributed in the US yet. The trailer looks like vintage Dante.
I agree... I'm dreading a new gremlins with CGI gremlins.... the old ones look good enough... especially that fan made one that shows gremlins could still work with the old type...
I didnt have a problem with the sequel but i know a few people didnt like it because of the Hulk Hogan Scene amongst others...
I'm glad that Gizmo remained innocent, otherwise fewer kids would have been allowed to see the movie at the time, which was surprisingly rated PG (microwave death)!
Having a Jekyll and Hyde type Gizmo probably wouldn't have worked well for a comedy, but the film still comes across as more of a horror movie either way. The sequel is a lot more comedic.
i love the scene in gremlins where they were
mocking carol singers outside somebodys house
it was funny a gremlins re-release would be supercool
and a special edition blu ray would be supercool also.

I wonder what an updated version Billy and Kate would look like if Gremlins 3 and 4 happens for theaters or not?
