The first thing that comes to mind is a combination of Margo Channing and Baby Jane. I really admire Bette, working up until the very end. She loved her work and Bette we still love you.
Only Bette Davis could make a character thrive with humor and grace despite a horrible script and supporting cast. This role is a testament to her genius!
I saw this movie when I was really little and thought it was brilliant! I couldn't believe it when years later I found out that it wasn't very well liked - at all - and that it was Bette Davis's final film... I'd love to get the DVD
she obviously didn't know the meaning of retiring. at her age, she shouldn't have done any movie they offered her but one to end her career on. The Whales of August should've been her swan song, not his garbage. she looks like a corpse and her acting is as wooden as petrified wood.
@DisasterFlicks Actually, I think no matter what movie it was, her determination for her career made it amazing. The only thing that ever kept this woman from going on any longer was her own death. I think she deserves so much more then "her acting is as wooden as petrified wood"
@karloffornia13 it's okay dude..I ended up buying it on VHS last month LOL. So I'm not too worried about it right now. But that would be cool if they had a future dvd release ^_^.
I love Bette Davis and would have loved to have seen this completed movie. She is so hilarious in this. She is such a great actress. I think it would have been great fun to see the whole movie.
i dislike seeing bette davis in movies at this age. i think she should have stopped before 1970. she was a wonderful actress. and did not need to belittle herself like this.
I agree. Same goes for the spooky chat show appearances - Letterman, for example, when compared with the Dick Cavett one years earlier. It's a shame her status as a Hollywood legend was used for this film. It would have made more sense to have an actress like Faye Dunaway play the role (although from what I see here, it would still not have been good).
agreed totally! she didnt need the money! i guess she simply just loved what she did.. but alot of people see these and remember her as that. when there was sooo much more to be discovered
@abruno9376 How sad you feel that way and that you haven't seen the work Bette Davis did after 1970 ,she gave many great performances on tv and the movie-screen which included her being Emmy nominated many times and a win .Bette was never vain and would play a role for all it was worth and than some ,even when material wasn't so good.A Star To the End:Bette Davis
Oh please, this was just one bad film out of many wonderful projects she did after 1970. She should've stopped but after The Whales of August, the film she made before this one.
Despite how bad she looks in this, Bette Davis never wanted to stop working. She died in October 1989 but until the final hospitalization, she stood on her own two feet, always. Cohen took heat for how bad she looked in Wicked Stepmother, but he defended himself: 'Everybody else is giving Bette awards and interviews and tributes; I gave her the one thing she really wanted to the end - work.'
Absolutley amazing that she can steal all of the few scenes she was in. Afterwards this movie reaked. Why couldnt they film the last scenes of the movie first then go back to the beginning. Considering how frail she was. they mustve relized she may not make it. Although she delivers lines alittle akwardly and a bit sad to watch caked with make up and all. She is still an incredible actress and still can dominate the screen against these other amateurs
Sam is played by Lionel Stander, best known as Max in the TV series "Hart to Hart". He also appeared in countless movies from the 1930's onward. "Some Like It Hot" however, was not one of them.

OMG the poor woman looked like death itself. How she managed to film as little as she did is a mystery to me. Poor thing.

Sweet mother of Murgatroyd! It looks like someone ran poor Bette through the de-juicer from Willy Wonka. But she's still fierce.
