This technique is fantastic. I was struggling with bass drum a lot. Since I use this method my speed and control has greatly increased. It feels less tacky then the ragular heels up. Drummers should try it.
yeah its deff possible on other pedals. I actually just got the new pearl demon drive yesterday and man i know its expensive but its the most amazing piece of equipment ive ever used
yea i got mine last week, its definitely up there as one of the best pedals ever with the ludwig speedking and trick pro v1... but i didnt like the beater and switched it for my slug drums one...
aww, the i LOVE the beater haha. There just happened to be a pearl representative at samash when i bought it, she was sayn theres some type of "polypropoline" vibration absorber in the center. maybe its just a placebo but i can FEEL them polypropolines when i play!
Everyone goes on about the fast double kick players like Jordison, but Jo Jo is proof in motion that guys like him can play as fast while using only 1 kick. But stop and start control is the key and Jo Jo's got that in spades. He's not my favorite drummer sound-wise, but he's a damn good drummer nonetheless.
The foot board does matter when using this technique. People say foot/shoe length doesn't matter but in truth it does relative to the length of the footboard. I wear a size 12 shoe and with my pedal this technique doesn't work well or consistently. After much practice, I get the same results with control of the bounce with my toe. Everybody's different or has a different method, but that's how I do it. Jo Jo's heel is still contained within the scope of the board, mine lays well over the end.
Its called a whole new section. He wasnt even hitting the ride. Lag Shmag. He was on the ride in sounds, but in the video he was on the tom and bass. Yeah, get the information straight first.

this is heel-toe right?
jeenyu5 3 years ago
no... its a hybrid between heel toe and swinging technique... its his own thing he made and i could never really figure it out
littlephoenix1115 3 years ago
its hard to figure out because he custom built his own pedal, this technique might not even work on a name brand pedal :(
charlielloydboyd 2 years ago
any technique works on any pedal...
the equipment does not make the man...
i can do push pull on a cymbal with a twig at 120 and mike johnston can do his double stroke on a crap single pedal in sandals,..
his custom pedal, like any high end equipment, communicates your technique the most efficient way possible to the head.
if youve ever played a really light and finesse made pedal without control you can hear it.
littlephoenix1115 2 years ago
