It was done in the style of Elvis so it obviously sounds like him, but when I bought it at Christmas time in '74, aged 12, Elvis was just the name of some old bloke from the 50's to me, and, I suspect, a lot of people from my generation.

This is a wonderful, yet poignant, song. Their voices are wonderful - to my ear anyway he sounds a bit like Elvis Presley. The backup sings is wonderful as well. Well I just found something out. Apparently my dad knows the drummer from mud. (Not entirely sure of his name) He's got a music/dance studio in High Wycombe.. "He's a big fat fellow with long blonde hair" so my dad says. Might get to meet him and shake his hand one day. Would be a pleasure! :)

Good luck, anyway - check out The Secrets That You Keep, in which Dave Mount does all the Oh Baby's... RIP to both of them. The guitarist got very rich writing/producing dance music and the bass player ended up looking like the guy who always chasing Ms Brahms in "Are You Being Served?", I guess. Btw, is your name derived from a long-lost Swinburne poem by any chance? It's catchy!

A mate of mine said he could no longer listen to this song because some widower once told him it always reminded him of his late wife and it used to upset him.

I personally prefer traditional Christmas hymns such as Silent Night etcetera, but for modern themes this a a very good, albeit poignant Christmas song, and very relevant to what Christmas is about - i.e. enjoying the company of others, as opposed to the consumerist, commercial and excessive drunken loutishness that has supplanted it.
