The internet worked great for the past 20 years. Just don't fix what's not broken. It also seems to me that you take laws very seriously but don't forget that they're not absolute. They're made by people (like you an I) with certain beliefs and in many cases, their beliefs enacted in the form of a "law" would do more harm than good such as in the case of SOPA.
@EpicAthiest Ah , Guess I was under the impression you were looking up something for the Flash BIOS on you're laptop, you were talking about game mods.. ok.. Do I take laws seriously, yes.. If one has there license suspended for some reason ya don't drive after revocation. -But I did anyway to get to work. Some laws make sense, others I would have to whole hardheartedly agree with you.. You can't go up to someone who may be an illegal alien and ask are you and illegal for instance
There are plenty of legitimate sources for this that is little or no cost to you (and reduced risk). Youtube actually has an interesting mechanism in place that allows digital copyright owners to get kickbacks from episodes you've watched (it's a little more complicated than that).
They wont get to shut it down they will figure out the server is in a continent that piracy isnt a crime, For instance, Piratebay one of the biggest downloading site was shut down last yr and was back up and running in less than a week, not only did they get it up and running but the people who set the company up Sued the state for loss of earnings(Pirate bay is a free downloading site but you have to pay to advertise, Brill site by the way) and this is just going to happen again. They are thick
A Right is merely a guideline. When we say someone has the "right" to free speech, it means they are allowed to do so without penalty.
Officially, SOPA didn't pass, but because they're backed by the big buisnesses (= power), they can pretty much bypass the government/people and enforce their OWN rights to THEMSELVES.
I believe it isn't the government vs the ppl this rare time but it's the ppl/government vs big buisnesses.
If you post a copy of a movie/music online for others, you've violated copyright laws and can be charged. Sites that do not respond to copyright violations can be charged as well. It's been this way long before sopa. MU is accused of knowingly violating copyright laws basically. This has been going on for months and doesn't have much to do with sopa. You don't just go after someone in another country on a whim after morning coffee. It takes time and coordination.
