  • this got through a really bad break up

  • I've always loved this song since I was a kid. I never knew there was a video! wow!

  • Great song, but video has nothing to do with the song.

  • Great song, stupid concept for a video. The video has nothing to do with the song.

  • this song got me over a really bad break up in2010

  • Revisting this EPIC SLOW JAM. Masterful production from super producer Leon Sylvers III. The syncopation of their vocals over & between the hypnotic bass, melody & rythmn arrangement is funky as hell. When Jody & Howard are going at it after that smooth azz bridge is fierce (2:40 -3:16) Their harmonies were untouchable. Those two were made to sing together, while Jeffrey was just plain sexy & danced his a-- off! Shalamar was a force to be reckoned with & truly missed today. LEGENDARY TRIO.

  • It sucks to be the last to know.

  • Never seen this before! Shalamar, those were the days. Thanks for posting.

  • there used to be a time when videos were actually videos. here is a classic example, folks need to do their homework. nice job shalamar. NEVER SEEN THIS OR HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE.

  • I can't find this song to download anywhere...where can i find it?

  • pure hotness!!!

  • This is my song!

  • fantastic!! I love shalamar!

  • Damn! Haven't heard this one in awhile. Gotta love 1982!

  • @beekay44

Yeah, that year 1982 had some great music, particularly from Shalamar. Damn! I slept on this one a little bit, because "Night To Remember" was my jam that year! Lol!!

  • I love Howard Hewetts voice soooo much!!

  • TUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNEEEEEEEEEE!

  • WOW!!!

  • Thank you UnidiscMusic for putting this video up.....I definitely needed it.....I agree about the song being so, so underrated

  • I agree totally agree underrated like it then and I like it even more now.

  • I agree totally underrated like it then and I like it even more now.

  • One of my favorite college jams. Those were the days!

  • one of my all-time favorite jams!! but must admit i never knew they had a video for this.

  • God. I loved this song. Still do. It is the truth! Great video too. It was like a love triangle or something. Love the look Jeffrey gives at 1:59 then how Jody reaches back at 2:15 and grabs onto him. It's too bad these 3 had a falling out. Oh what folks would pay to see a Shalamar reunion!

  • the jam my senior year of high school by my favorite group of all-time. Bought all their albums with HH as lead singer (still own them) . Highly underrated slow jam just like Somewhere There's a Love - they don't make love songs like this anymore and what a shame

  • I've never saw this video back then. It is nowhere near as cheesy as the A Night To Remember video, but similar concept. Wasn't she lovely in this? They were so young. She could've easily have been a model back then as well, but then again, she probably had too many curves for their model selections back then...may have been too short...However, this was a nice video and concept...post-slavery attire, I think.

  • @MamaNuveau Jody did a lot of fashion work once she went solo and better more noteworthy videos , since I have seen all of them in person, Howard Hewett was the short one probably 5'5 Jody almost 6 feet like Jeffrey who was made to be a court jester in their videos. Now that I'm older and work in music data so many of their songs weren't big hits back in the day like this but really good tunes.I think this a take on Lady Chatterlys Lover, my guess anyway from my English lit days in college

  • @MamaNuveau Jody did look tall, regal, looked good in anything she wore--supermodel qualities. And she did look to be the same height as Jeffrey. You're right about the court jester part: He did always seem to be the fool, the bartender, the 3rd wheel. She always seemed to choose Howard in the end in those skits. Music data, huh? Sounds very interesting. You deal with alot of lyrics or more like history of artists? Probably did alot or writing too? Sounds good.

  • I can remember exactly where I was when this song was played. It was actually a break-up song for me, I kept listening to it over and over beautiful song.

  • The baddest song they ever cut. this and "lets find the time for love"

  • their voices were made to be together

  • Their Growing WEED! LMAO!

  • I still hate that hat Jodie! ...But I still Love You though!

  • mad underrated!

  • jody has always been elegant.

  • this video cost five dollars to make. lol. One their best songs thjough.

  • Wow...I remember requesting this song on the radio and the DJ saying he didn't know what I was talking about....Now either he didn't want to play it or I was many years too late! But today, I got my request! Still as good as I remember.

  • This is another nice R&B song from 1983 that this trio did, so smooth, an melodic, with those trademark Shalamar vocals. Jody Watley was absolutely a gorgeous woman back in the day, her looks were stunning, to say the least, quality 80's R&B song, an video...

  • Howard was the king of the shag haircut.

  • @BricktownBubba i used 2 have a european shag just like Howard in this video, all the girls used 2 grab it like it was a tail.

  • @BricktownBubba

He's in the competition "of shags" along with Peabo Bryson, Lionel Richie, Todd Bridges, JT Taylor (lead singer of Kool & The Gang) and Ray Parker Jr. Theo (Malcolm Jamal Warner) and Kanye West was messy and untamed (shag "no no's").

  • this is my favorite song by Shalamar, and yes this video (the concept i should say) is horrible. and yes Blaque did use this sample but its not credited on the album liner notes...

  • THAT'S IT, I'm demanding the 80's music and artists COME BACK PLEASE! Up until the early 90's this was the last great era of music. There were so many great artists that didn't stay around long, but they put out some GREAT EVERLASTING SONGS! And this one still rocks my world! Thank you Shalamar, and you can take that to the bank, OVER AND OVER!

  • Una canción encantadora. Por eso, Shalamar fue uno de mis grupos favoritos.

  • oh baby bring it home to me

  • wow! i have never seen this video.....thanks for posting love this song!!!!

  • No one mentions Watley's voice how distinctive it was and how her harmonies totally mesh with Howards. It's just a nice harmonic sound they make. Great Song. Thanks for posting.

PS: I love 80s videos, it really was song first , video second

  • Jeffrey was just as fine as Howard. Why in all of their videos did they have him either being the waiter, busboy, cleaning up or something?

  • @GrownFolksMusic LOL, that is so true!!

  • @GrownFolksMusic LOL, that is so true!!

  • A great song for the Edwardian Gardeners Digest CD .... By Golly, watch those ferns grow!!

  • yes love never promised no guarantee, still i dont wanna be da last to know'.........

  • SANG HOWARD!!!!!!

  • "Dick" Griffey (November 16, 1938 – September 24, 2010) who founded SOLAR Records, an acronym for "Sound of Los Angeles Records" put Shalamar together. It's a damn shame how practically made them breakup as well. Jefferey Daniels, Jody Watley and Howard Hewett made great music.

  • @AkashaAzariel Shalamar was formed by Don Cornelius with a first release on Soul Train Records "Uptown Festival". From what I have learned though Griffey was a partner it was Don Cornelius who handpicked Watley and Daniels from Soul Train show. Later when Cornelius chose to focus on his legendary TV show and opt of of the music industry, Griffey then formed Solar, absorbing Soul Train Records so to speak. I've learned a lot (as a Watley fan) following her Youtube Unsung Unfiltered series.

  • Somebody got a real dungeon archive for this vid. Never seen this one. Superb classic!

  • I NEVER understood this video!!! Why are they dressed in victorian era clothes? I absolutely LOVE the oddness of it all! lol!!! The song is so amazing though, they could be in zombie makeup and still not detract from the song. lol!

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!

  • GOD BLESS YOUFOR POSTING THIS VIDEO HOW DID YOU FIND IT

  • omg listen to the words seriously now that im older - this is ... damn! REAL MUSIC!

  • There is NOT a video for this! GTFOH! LOVE love this song-Jody & Howard killed this! And the melody...aww! Thank you for posting!!

  • This is my favorite song by Shalamar of all time! The memories this songs brings back are fund ones so thanks for posting this one to the third power.

  • Blaque sample this song. Their version is called Bring It All To Me.

  • @barnesfam BLAQUE! You are awesome for that reference!

  • @rellenoz hehe thanks!

  • This is ma JAM right here

  • the R&B group Blaque sampled this song for there 1999 hit "Bring It All to Me"

  • Howard Hewett singin at his best:)!!!!

  • love it

  • ONE OF MY FAVORITES BY THEM

  • Great song...Terrible video.

  • This is a great song.. one of their top 5, probably their top love/mellow song. Most like 'For the Lover In You'... which got played quite often, to the point where I would turn the radio dial whenever I head it on lol.

  • LOL why'd they always have Jeffrey like the third wheel in these videos? Poor fella lol.

  • @cocoapeach

So true ...I always had the same feeling with an other funk trio : Imagination !! I can really feel that member Errol Kennedy was like the third wheel; while their was more complicity between the other members (Leee John and Ashley Ingram) It's visible, when one is familiar with the group... well, it's really the same as for Shalamar : the third wheel, that's true !! lol

  • I remember seeing them in concert along with Carrie Lucas, Lakeside and the Whispers. Great show!

  • now you can take this jam to the bank...LOVE IT shalamar

  • Was this their last video? It seem so sad. Too bad they had a lot of conflict going on. I loved their chemistry.

  • @willowseeker

This was'nt their last video ("Dead Giveaway" was). This was their last video for Friends album (they planned on making more videos for that album, but Jody Watley being pregnant prevented that and limited live promotions for the Friends album in 1982....reason why Jeffrey Daniels made so many solo performances in the UK).

  • @soulchildsacomin Great info. Thanks!

  • @soulchildsacomin Your comment can only be speculation, who said they planned more videos? .According to Ms Watley the group was already toast by the time they recorded The Look album where this song appeared and with Daniels having already quit trying to body pop his way to solo sucess and not returning to even do vocals. Apparently Dick Griffey had decided to turn to focus on Hewett and also not pay anybody. Her pregancy was a moot point seeing as she worked almost until birth

  • @stilettogroove

Shalamar were the biggest group in the UK and in black America, especially when their label mates, The Whispers, Dynasty, and Lakeside were making several music videos between 1980-82. When Friends came out in 1982, it was true that the group started to crack a bit, but it was'nt until 1983 (when the Look came out) that tensions boiled over the pot. It heard from a source that the Friends lp were planned for more than only two videos.

  • @soulchildsacomin i think CHIC and the Gap band in the US were bigger and more infulential it appears CHIC more so around the world to this day hands down.

  • @stilettogroove

By the way, "I Don't Wanna Be The Last To Know" came from the album, Friends (released in March of 1982), not The Look, which was released in the summer of 1983. According to Unsung, Howard's failing first marriage and Jody's prenancy forced Jeffrey to promote the Friends album solo for most of 1982, but the singles kept flying off the UK charts throughout that year.

  • @soulchildsacomin in that case it was all meant to be, the ulitmate demise and all, even ms watley said so. and apparently she worked into her ninth month of pregnancy until she could not travel and also daniels had already quit the group and didnt sing vocals on more than one song for the last album 'the look'. watch unfiltered on her jwatley1 channel to hear her view. she also mentoned on her facebook page a while ago that this is one of her favorite shalamar songs

  • My Favorite song of all time

  • @blacmoth Mines too It was nice to hear Jody and Howard singing a ballad

  • LOVE THEM SO MUCH

  • MAN THIS WAS THE JAM I NAMED MY DAUGHTER SHALA AFTER SHALAMAR

  • OMG!!!!! There's a video to this?

  • My gosh! That's a great song. I love Shalamar! BTW, question: Wasn't this sampled on Blaque's song "Bring It All to Me?"

  • @gsnman yep, it sounds like this was the song sampled! I was thinking the same thing:)

  • @gsnman Yes it sure was. Lol I was just listening to "Bring it all to me", and came across this and I was like whoa this is where they got it from.

  • Hahahaha!! Does Jeffrey Daniel alway' play the waiter as in this video and "a nite to remember"?

  • @7olusegun because he don't sing lead it hard put him up front if he not singing lead.

  • this was the jam.....................never knew that there was a video for this though.

  • I love Shalamar

  • Absolutely Fantastic-Saw them last week-at 55 they've still got it -even without the gorgeous Jody

  • O M G!!! Love this song. Video, not so much.

  • In love all over again!

  • Love this song, never knew a video existed. Thanks. Nice to see Howard with his fine self!

  • I have lost my mind. Can someone come and pinch me to see if I am awake. You have got to be kidding me? I am one of the ultimate Shalamar fans and I have never in my life seen this video. Are you tryna send me to my grave early? Where is all this stuff coming from? You have some rare videos that I have never seen. This was one of my favorite songs and now I see a visual. WOW. Thank You Unidisc. Thank You

  • Woah! There was actually a video for this?! Such an incredible song and yes it is underrated.

  • Very nice.

  • Unidisc, u have no idea what u have done for me, the Solar Records fans, & u have turned around YouTube. Thank you so much for sharing these total surprizes

  • This song and video is great;always been underrated

  • This is some rare shit, and I finally get to see it after lots of talks about it. Shalamar did plan to make more videos for the Friends album, but because Jody was on "maternity leave" and Howard had to fix up a divorce, they only had time to make two videos (the other one being "A Night To Remember"). Thanks Unidisc!!

  • Jody is timelessly gorgeous!

  • Never knew there was a video!!!! Thanks for posting! I always loved this song.

  • Thank you very much! My requests have finally been answered. I just had the opportunity of seeing this video again for the first time since the 80s.

    Thanks again for the post.

P.S. Please don't take it off.

  • damn shame all the best groups break up

  • @crunk617

lol ... it's way long ago that groups of that era broke up !! Already in the early nineties, it was over...(at least for funk groups...) I agree that some big acts such as Earth,Wind & Fire, Kool and The Gang, even Shalamar and some others re-formed later in the nineties, but it was only to perform concerts of their best known hits; I consider that -for real- all of that was over long ago ... (remember ?? when rap/hip-hop, dance,house,techno,trip-hop...dominated in the early 1990s)

  • OMG!!!! *faints*

  • Thank you thank you thank you!!! I've been waiting to see this video for EONS!!!
