While I understand your feelings on the game never getting released, it's hard not to side with EA. While the combat engine itself sounds like a great idea, this game does seem way too disturbing. I'm not easily disturbed, but I don't want to imagine a current-gen version of this. I think I was only able to watch some of this footage due to PS1 graphics.
That said, I'm not trying to stop anybody's fun. But if Mortal Kombat scared folks, imagine what this would do to gaming's image.

There is one other fighting game that I know of that uses a female as the main villain. Evil Zone for the PS1. Her name is Ihadurca. Not sure how you feel about anime, but as a fan of it, I can say it's a pretty good game. The camera angles are really good and give it that anime feel. Too bad it went under most people's radar.

I remember hearing that PlayStation Magazine thought this game sucked horribly. But then again, they suck off games like Halo, Final Fantasy and Killzone, so I don't exactly have incentive to listen to them. Thrill Kill reigns supreme, even to this day.

Not sure about that--the censored one I had years ago (the one that I bought from a website) had the music, but only if the PSX was modded with a chip--the music didn't play if I was using a Game Shark to play it.
Unless maybe the people I bought the game from added the music themselves and it didn't work all the time (ie: maybe we're both right).

You know what I'm surprised that there wasn't some sort of sadistic clown character in the game, that shows the kind of class this game presents not going for the cheap Pennywise style clown that everybody is familiar with and innately afraid of. But instead coming up with legit and funny characters that anybody could like (except Cletus).

I read a lot about this game, and eveyone say it was one of the best gameplays in fighting games to its time. It has 4 players at the same time, it is fast and the gameplay is smooth. Each character is very interesting and represents some kind of fetish. Even "going postal" appears with Mammoth!
There are a lot of videos here, on youtube, will all the fmvs endings, an awesome compilation of ALL Thrill Kills in HQ, and a man who know how to play this game to perfection!

Wow that brought back memories. I remember a cousin of mine came to visit and recommended that game. When I put into my playstation I was blown away, I was really happy but my cousin came from a conservative family and was about 8.
Anyway this was actually my favorite fighting game. Had the beta and I think the unsensored finished version (someone stole my beta). Anyway I loved the gore but the gameplay alone was reason enough to play it. Cheers!

EXCELLENT REVIEW...i enjoyed it so much...i have the beta version of thrill kill; i got it when it first came out and i played it to death (no pun intended)...i just whipped it out again this morning (for the first time in years) and played some of the tracks on my computer! it's a really fun game that should have should have been released in one form or another...great job!

Just a quick little aside though, you should try "Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines" if you haven't already. It's a great older game and pretty underrated as far as computer games go. Never heard of this game till now but it sounds pretty awesome... a kill meter instead of a health meter, 4 fighters at once, an interesting premise for a tournament (winner is reborn) hosted by a female demon, a hold-nothing-back approach to the violence and sexual content (in the uncensored version)... wow! Someone should remake this as a modern version!

Basically, ever since they shifted names from Electronic Arts to EA, they went to crap.
Don't totally crackdown on EA, they have released a few good games here and there. Black is one of the good games EA has done. As I said before, I am gonna give Dead Space a try. Also Cyborcat, you should check out Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned 2: Bloodshot. Those two games are uber-violent and they make Thrill Kill seem tame in comparison. Another game from Monolith that I'm willing to see is Project Origin, that game is gonna make F.E.A.R. look like a happy pony fest
God I hate EA, I pretty much always have... and almost daily there seems to be new reason to do so. I'm glad T2 waited for the merger even if they go through with it, just so they can make as much money off of GTA4 before EA can get their nasty hands on it. And one day... it's inevitable that EA will crash and burn.

I read a lot about this game, and eveyone say it was one of the best gameplays in fighting games to its time. It has 4 players at the same time, it is fast and the gameplay is smooth. Each character is very interesting and represents some kind of fetish. Even "going postal" appears with Mammoth!
There are a lot of videos here, on youtube, will all the fmvs endings, an awesome compilation of ALL Thrill Kills in HQ, and a man who know how to play this game to perfection!

Wow that brought back memories. I remember a cousin of mine came to visit and recommended that game. When I put into my playstation I was blown away, I was really happy but my cousin came from a conservative family and was about 8.
Anyway this was actually my favorite fighting game. Had the beta and I think the unsensored finished version (someone stole my beta). Anyway I loved the gore but the gameplay alone was reason enough to play it. Cheers!

I remember back in the late 90s reading all about this game in magazines (and on the Internet when I finally got dialup in late 98)I remember them cancelling.I was pissed,then my best friend ran across some guy selling modchips and burned games on ICQ.Naturally,I spent the 20 on a modchip and the 8 for Thrill Kill (I knew nothing of downloading the stuff back in those days) Lost it a few months later,just downloaded again today :) I forgot how awesome this game is. Happy days!

EXCELLENT REVIEW...i enjoyed it so much...i have the beta version of thrill kill; i got it when it first came out and i played it to death (no pun intended)...i just whipped it out again this morning (for the first time in years) and played some of the tracks on my computer! it's a really fun game that should have should have been released in one form or another...great job!

Each character has a "kill" where they do a little dance instead of finishing off their opponent. It's like the Friendships in Mortal Kombat.

Great job on this one CC! Your 3 parter was very informative and I appreciated the work you put into using some good music. Just a quick little aside though, you should try "Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines" if you haven't already. It's a great older game and pretty underrated as far as computer games go. You'll probably like it since you mentioned a love for horror themed games. Later.

Never heard of this game till now but it sounds pretty awesome... a kill meter instead of a health meter, 4 fighters at once, an interesting premise for a tournament (winner is reborn) hosted by a female demon, a hold-nothing-back approach to the violence and sexual content (in the uncensored version)... wow! Someone should remake this as a modern version!

I only disagreed with one ting she says...Thrill Kill IS the greatest game ever made!! It's so brutal. There is nothing in the gaming world I would want more than seeing an updated sequel to this masterpiece game.
If you don't like this game either you're not a fighting game fan at all (and shouldn't have played it in the first place) or you're incredible closed-minded. What is there not to love? It'a a 4-player, 3D killfest with the most politically incorrect characters. Rock on Thrill Kill!!!

I think at the time, it was probably a good decision to vault Thrill Kill. Who knows what kind of political backlash the game could have caused at a time when videogames were really just starting to become bigger than ever.

I was thinking, and it would be a really fantastic idea for EA (corporate cocksuckers though they may be) to simply upload the game for download after all these years. Seriously, it's been a decade, and you wouldn't lose ANY production costs if the game is distributed either on the marketplaces of the modern home consoles or on a service such as Steam or Gametap.
Really, it would be a great idea. Either way, thanks for letting me get the most in depth look at Thrill Kill I'll likely ever see.

Even though it might imply admission of being wrong, I'm sure they'd just be able to make up some excuse about how that decision was made by someone no longer with the company...Either way, I'm sure it's entirely unlikely, which is quite a shame, as I remember reading about it almost every month in just about every magazine available, following it closely until finally, *POOF!* it just disappeared.
Basically, ever since they shifted names from Electronic Arts to EA, they went to crap.

Don't totally crackdown on EA, they have released a few good games here and there. Black is one of the good games EA has done. As I said before, I am gonna give Dead Space a try. Also Cyborcat, you should check out Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned 2: Bloodshot. Those two games are uber-violent and they make Thrill Kill seem tame in comparison. Another game from Monolith that I'm willing to see is Project Origin, that game is gonna make F.E.A.R. look like a happy pony fest

God I hate EA, I pretty much always have... and almost daily there seems to be new reason to do so. I'm glad T2 waited for the merger even if they go through with it, just so they can make as much money off of GTA4 before EA can get their nasty hands on it. And one day... it's inevitable that EA will crash and burn.
Now, be careful with all that trademarked content. It seems like you listed it all at the end, but perhaps that's not the best nor important idea given the possible consequences.
