very hilarious comment. You are teaching Sony what a DSLR is who is almost master in imaging technology. I am talking about technology and not about no of DSLR you have in your DSLR. I assume you r a CaNikon guy and most probably a Canon fan boy. What type of art your Canikon is providing to you just pumping a crappy video in yr 7D and putting the price tag high? wanna compare IQ between 1ds Mk III and A900 below ISO 800, then you will realize what sony is....

it's the photographer who use technique to make art... and that can be done with a point and shoot to the most advanced DSLR... you can make art with a box camera with the right technique.

I just got one a few weeks ago. It's a great machine. I purchased an hd camcorder a while back and did not need the hd video. When buying a DSLR I'm looking for an awesome picture taking machine not a video recording machine. Most of the hd video's on DSLR's out there are crap and not really usable unless you are not trying to zoom and have the camera on a tripod.I think that the smart move for nikon, canon would be to do away with hd video and take the price's down a couple hundred bucks.

I have noticed one other thing though...

The camera is a lot cheaper then most other brands with the same featers.

But their lenses, flashes and stuff are really expensive! I think that this is their selling strategy and why the camera is that much cheaper.

You are aware that most of the CPU's in Nikon's are made and manufactured by Sony for Nikon? And Nikon ramp up the price for people like you that think they know everything and constantly down Sony!! I think you will find more and more Pro Togs are using the Sony A900 body than Nikon in 2009 and 2010 onwards!! This is a great little unit Now,

After testing some of the new sonys Im not convinced.

The power switch as part of the shutter is a bad design and can be moved when operating the apeture/shutter speed wheel, the adjustable lcd although a generous size sticks out and can catch on things, I also found that it stopped me from getting close enough to the eyepiece.

The erganomics are poor apart from the a700/900. I know that they want to atract new entry dslr buyers but im waiting for a richer midrange/prosumer segment.

So glad they didn't muck round with movie mode. Much prefer a tilting auto-brightness screen, fastest LV AF on the market, in-cam steady shot, in-cam HDR, fast continuous shoot etc etc etc. Love this machine!

Sony was smart not to put video on the Alpha cameras. It allows them more room to create cameras that take superb photos. That is why they are so far above Nikon, Canon, and other Prosumer DSLR companies.

Sony have missed the boat again, no dedicated hd mode is a bad move, sure there are those purists who will not want to use hd but for the vast majority it is an asset. Canon D7, Canon D5 mii, Nikon D90, Panasonic GH1 Pentax K7 will be glad you messed up Sony.
