Remember guys, Ozzy and Yusuf walk off stage together that they are sharing the same view about humanity and peace while have differences on how they choose god!
@JustinDejong Sounds awesome. We stayed in a hotel at the very end of the red line (so we could be sure to get on a train). It was filled at that very first station. It took HOURS just to GET on the train that far out. We ended up getting there about an hour late. Still awesome to be there.
You do realize that he was just responding to the question about Rushdie in the context of orthodoxy. It would be the same as if you asked an RC priest if everyone who didn't believe in Christ is going to hell. It says it very clearly in the Bible, but in practicality it doesn't work that way...
@oliverdavidanderson he got swept up in a religion that is very politicaly tangled, just like catholosism was back in the dark ages....he seemed to belive that the punishment for blastphemy was death, a small threat like that shivers in comparison to the crusades, the inquisition, the conquistadors, the salem witch trials.....bottom line, religion pushes people to do messed up shit.
@niljuanzo He is pushed by an ideology "to do messed up shit," ergo he does not belong at a rally to restore sanity. Saying someone should die for writing a book is insane.
Awesome. I was there, but so far back I couldn't see what was going on. It sounded like Yusuf got a hard-rock music makeover. It was a great performance, though.
I love Ozzy, and his song was awesome. I would've never heard of Yusuf or the OJs if it hadn't been for TDS and this Rally. Their songs sounded great too, and had great lyrics & a message of unity. Bringing together such different artists really sent that message of unity. I wish Ozzy finished, but them leaving together was cool, too.
This was awesome! I've always loved Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam's music so it's great to see him back on the scene. Love to Ozzy too. And really people...none of us can claim exclusive ownership of God...we can only express how God speaks through us individually through that spark of the divine God has placed in each of us...but any true voice of God is one of love and peace so anyone who says or does violence in the name of God isn't living through that Spirit! Peace and Love everyone!

What do you expect? Did you see his infamous madness or are you too young? Or do you just not care that someone threatens murder, denies it, funds segregationist schools teaching murder as 'morality' and then turns around and sings "Peace Train"?
a fair point..but people sing all sorts of things they either mean or dont. the man himself may or may not be peaceful (i happen to think he is), but this is beside the point - the songs hes written as cat stevens and even as yusuf have inspired me to a better way of thinking and im sure im not alone. yes, his comments on the rushdie matter were wrong, he himself even acknowledges this. he tried to live his life as close to the koran as possible, but ultimately, i think hes a decent man.

In these days any one can do something stupid and attributed to Islam, any one can portraying a video clip and put the name of God behind it and kill in the name of Islam, people who do such a thing or deliberately they are not only enemies of Islam they are enemies of themselves and the universe and any religion, I hope we think clearly and not be fooled by lies and fabrications behind the propaganda and stop paste the old stories, which was full deception and incitement to any religion
@ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER Well said! Awful things have been attributed to Christianity too throughout history. That does not make all Christians bad. Religion is about love and caring, not about hating. It is what is in the heart of a man that will condemn him.
@LoreneFaith The controversy has absolutely nothing to do with all Muslims or "all Christians" being "bad". It is simply a case of the facts needing to be stated. Think... if someone advocated your murder - for that is exactly what it is in the country the threats were made - then you saw them on a stage singing "Peace Train", I'm sure that, at the very least, you would feel bound to point out to one and all, especially those denying that which you knew to be certain, the man's total hypocrisy.
@blackmore4 . i will say this, humans are an interesting species. we have the capactiy to love as much as we can hate. he's not denying what he has said or believed in. i am korean but do you think that i want to subjugate the rest of my land of birth under the thumb of a madman because i beleive in a unified korea? no"A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
@MultiGeekmaster While I agree with your nicely phrased philosophy, I disagree entirely when you deny his intent. He has a whole page on his website which to anybody but the severely mentally challenged is the very definition of hypocrisy. He refers to his wish that a burning effigy of Rushdie "was the real thing" as... a joke. With millions of religious lunatics outside shrieking for the author's blood? His absolute condemnation of the fatwah itself is still to be heard.
@ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER I think you and LoreneFaith are both already blessed - with understanding, compassion and clarity of thought and belief, and therefore are a blessing to others as well. Reading your comments here made my heart smile. People like you give us all hope for a better and more peaceful future.
wow. all of you shut up and go discuss your unimportant opinions in some stupid chat room. yusuf is absolutely uncomparable. that just made my day to watch. jon stewart for president 2016
@benchessman I understand how being a fan of his music may be uncomfortable in view of his actions but do you seriously consider advocating murder for free-speech and segregating children to teach them the 'morality' of murder as... "unimportant"?
so what if he has a different belief than others? judge the man for the person he is, not what he believes. he is a man who wants peace and love and tolerance. besides no religion is blameless, christians killed millions in they didn't convert for years
@MultiGeekmaster This is very true. All religions carry the truth if they believe in caring for your fellow man. Religion is about becoming a better person, not feeling superior to others and, true religion is not a means to gain power over others.
@MultiGeekmaster "Judge the man for the person he is, not what he believes".
Stevens/Islam demonstrates all too clearly how the two are inseparable. He sings his songs of 'love' and 'peace', then with the profits funds segregated Islamic schools teaching children that it is a noble moral stance to stone adulterers, hang homosexuals and behead or hang critics of (or those wishing to leave) Islam. Oh yes, music (at his 'Islamia' schools) is not on the curriculum.
Yikes! what a cacophonous class of craziness tacky red-white-and-blue yankee style!!
Call me clueless, but I didn't realize Cat Stevens aka "Joseph"
( a classic stereotypical example of capital-A American cultural/social/linguistic clueless insensitivity requiring the seamless conformity of "the other" into their particular bent way of walking/talking/looking by reason of Manifest Destiny)
also known as Yusuf...
has become essentially a kind of cultural/musical trojan horse
Does this "peace" extend to the women about to be buried up to their necks in the earth to have rocks thrown at their heads? Or the teenage boys about to be hung for homosexuality? Or those who, because they've decided to leave Islam, are about to be hung or beheaded? No, I didn't think so... after all, we needn't question his views on free-speech; his comments regarding Salman Rushdie make that perfectly clear.
@blackmore4 In case you were wondering why the women I mentioned have been and will be buried in the earth up to their necks to have rocks thrown at their heads, it is the Islamic Sharia punishment for adultery. Something that Yusuf Islam fully supports.
"Peace".... sort of Adolf Hitler style 'peace', right?
@blackmore4 i,ve been a muslim all my life and i've never ever heard or witness any of what are you saying about islam and let me be with you and say its true tell me when did it happened i am sure who did it is from the same people that i was talking about up in my comment .. the one who got no life and believes in nothing but hate to humanity and ones again they got nothing to do with islam cause islam is a big religion and not all the world know's about it so its easy to manipulation
@ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER "i've never ever heard any of what are you saying about islam"
1] Then you need to source the Sharia legal texts (CURRENTLY operational in many a Muslim majority country) to learn the facts.
a) Adultery is punishable by stoning. The woman is buried to her neck in the earth whereupon SMALL rocks are thrown directly at her head 'til dead. Sharia specifically stipulates that they MUST NOT be large... to prolong the... 'ceremony'.
2] The man however is only buried to his waist and... this is unreal... if he manages to pull himself from the ground (which he has more than a 50% better chance of achieving than the woman - strength/waist rather than neck burial) before the rocks have killed him (and if he's able to defy his concussion/hemorrhaging to hobble away) he is... pardoned and freed. Bloody patriarchy 'til the very end.
b) Blasphemy (free-speech) and Apostasy (a Muslim leaving Islam) - Hanging or beheading
c) Homosexuality - Obviously death... though there is some dispute about the appropriate method. Interestingly, the choices between burning, stoning or... throwing from a cliff... are pondered and illustrated in a children's school book currently in use at private Islamic schools in the UK (see recent BBC Panorama TV programme).
@blackmore4 see one again you didn't answer me when did some body in any legal well respected countries of islam mention one ,that have burns or stone to the neck or did any of it as i said its big religion and you cant take you source of information from any where or any book even the holy Qur'an you cant as muslim to read and decide how to live directly by your self that why we have alot of book just to interpretation, analysis and reverse targeting the Lord words and the reason \1
@blackmore4 of it and the reason she got down in and what period of time and alot of these are books that need to by breakdown by the senior scientists to show the right meaning of it veto which are clearly either the rest of the world is different in dealing with Islam in some cases, I personally heard and talk to people who are aware of the truth of words and interpreted , and they like to believe the opposite of the lords words and meaning they love to believe manipulate \2
@blackmore4 one's even though they now the truth but they are not so many. the problem is in the understanding, and analysis the application no body can ignore all of this i am not here to explain and interpret details but every body considers all of that in the islam world as i said big religion just like christianity you have to keep going to church to keep learning and we don't take our studies advisory opinion from any one . just from leading scholars in Mecca . not the UK
@blackmore4 peace to you man keep watching tv but please watch it with your brain i always do that and guess what i win a third eye who never lies to me and it show's me the tv screen by Xray and i see the truth behind any news right away .. i am tired of you come to r kingdom of saudi arabia you will see for your own that every body is happy and there is no such a crazy thing ever peace and love , bye
Also, I love Yusef's aka Cat's music, he is a visionary. I'll admit I liked that Ozzy song when it came out, because at that time of my life, it was crazy. But is not a song for this time. And way to go O'Jays, love your song too.
Am glad Colbert would not get on that train, he is a loser. Let him be on the crazy train. Lmao battle of the trains, lol. I'm all for Stewart. (for president?)
So did I. How did this terrorist supporting muslim even get a visa? And on top of that allowed to perform in our nation's capitol in front of American flags?
Oh well, at least he had the good taste to play an AMERICAN made Gibson guitar.
@ericroi First of all I support Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood both listed as terrorist groups by some countries. While I dont support terrorist acts, the goals they are trying to accomplish I am for. Also Yusuf doesnt support terrorism and the newspaper that printed that lie was sued for slander and he won because they lied in their newspaper just for headlines.
@DGomez2012 Do you think that perhaps Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood are listed as terrorist groups because they engage in terrorism? And besides that Cat Stevens has admitted himself that "maybe" some of his donations to "charity groups" have been used to support terrorism.
@ericroi The Muslim Brotherhood doesnt go and commit terrorist acts what they want is simple a new Caliphate. As for Hamas any nation with its back against the wall would mostlikely do the same, but that doesnt make their actions acceptable.
Also almost every charity that helps impoverished people around the world has to make deals with local warlords. A lot of charities have money that goes to rebel groups so they "being the charity givers" can go into the area and help the people.
@DGomez2012 And by the way, when I refer to him as Cat Stevens, I mean no disrespect. It's just the way I remember him, and I love his music and guitar playing style.
so, you are for the destruction of an entire nation that would likely result in the murder of millions of jews at the hands of religion crazed arabs - how nice of you
@dukearty Im for the lands of Palestine to be united as one land governed by the Palestinian people. Dont just say a person is for the destruction of millions of jews or call them crazed arabs. Only people who want to look at issues in black and white would call them crazed instead of trying to understand what they want.
and are you so deluded that you think jews would be treated fairly by a muslim ruled society?? LMAO!!
and what precisely have these "palestinians" contributed to society?\
what will they contribute to society?
another backward barbaric country capable of only ranking among the lowest for equality, tolerance, peace, education, productivity and human rights, just like other islamic nations! great!
@ericroi so just because he is Muslim (which he converted to in the 70's) he is automatically a terrorist? Yusuf Islam is one of the strongest supporters for peace and he heavily criticized the actions of the extremest Muslims that committed the terrorist attacks.
there is a video, i saw the first time tonight, here on the youtube, in which cat "useless islam" stevens agrees that rushdie deserves to be killed for insulting islam. even conceding that he could and would do the killing himself!!!!!!
sorry, i loved cat stevens back in the day but this "yousef islam" is an extremist of the head chopping variety! screw him!
This was brilliant -- where else are going to see Yusef and Ozzy battle off with Jon and Stephen in the middle of it all? The whole rally was brilliantly conceived and executed.
Thanks for uploading this LoreneFaith ... I was at the rally and we were so frustrated that Yusef and Ozzy were interrupted like that. It was all part of the schtick, as someone else said ... as I understand it Yusef and Ozzy were laughing like kids backstage when they were going over how it was gonna play out, they were totally in on the "joke," but I was so freaking happy when 'Peace Train' started, and nearly as happy when 'Crazy Train' started. Oh well, wish all three songs were played.
@MsMichelene I was very excited when each song started too and agree. It would have been nice to of hear each song entirely. I am glad that Yusef and Ozzy were having a good time with it all.
divisive comment - is not a joke cause Yusalf and Ozzy and The Roots and The Ojays rock but Johnny Stewart and Stephen Colbert don't need to mock the world and keep their trash talk off tv they are bad as Rush, Ollie North, Hannity, Beck, and others...poliiics and music/entertainment don't mix - no that is SERIOUS divisive comment - grow up and stop this bull crap why or fhinking...I am going now to collect some food stamps, free health. free money, social security, and more - THANK YOU OBAMA
@newsduke "Divisive"? You mean those for and against Cat Stevens' appearances where he sings about 'peace love and understanding' but has yet to retract his categorical statements of support for the Islamic death sentence on Salman Rushdie (worse - denying them)? Until he does this (retracts) and publicly apologizes to Salman Rushdie, please tell me how it's possible to view him as anything other than a total fraud with an extremely sinister agenda?
To interrupt such a unique and special moment of Yousef singing Peace Train was a huge mistake. I understand the schtick they were going for, but it was idiotic in hindsight.
@jmurf999 I think the whole idea they were trying to get across was the sanity or fear theme. It would have been nice to the peace and crazy train songs complete though. I agree with that :)
@LoreneFaith Yes that was the "schtick" part of my comment. They beat that theme to death. They should have taken the "opposing view thing" at the end of each song then shown unity for the Love Train. Which was cool to see in it's entirety. It disrespected the song and Cat Stevens, and the people who love that song, even if it was an "act". That's all I'm saying. It could have been thought through a bit more that's all.
@jmurf999 I agree with you. It would have been great to have been able to hear all three songs in their entirety and still make the arguments at the end of each song. I am sure that the artists knew what was going to happen ahead of time and they still got paid to perform.
@LoreneFaith You are absolutely correct in knowing that the artists knew ahead of time. I understand it was one big skit. It was at the expense of a "unique performance" by a unique legendary performer who has been out of the pubic eye musically for a long, long time at this level of exposure. I'm just expressing my feelings about it, and how it affected me personally. Others feel different, and that is their choice, and I respect their view about how it affected them one way or the other.
@jmurf999 I definitely respect your opinion too and totally agree with you. Yusuf was banned from this country by President Bush and so was not able to perform here. He must have agreed with the message of the rally and that is why he was willing to put up with the interruption. It was wonderful seeing him perform again after so long and yes, it would have been great if we could have heard him finish his song. Maybe this will bring him back to us again soon.
@sandalman300 It's more of an "addition to" as opposed to the reverse of, but you're right. Iit was disrespectful that way too. I guess it's more to the fans of the music than to the musicians themselves as they agreed to let their songs be used in this way; which is their total right to do; but a turn-off nonetheless for true music fans.
@Lennon4life1968 I am glad to hear that the Love train is starting its journey around the world! Let's keep it going and get your ticket so you don't miss it!

@benchessman I understand how being a fan of his music may be uncomfortable in view of his actions but do you seriously consider advocating murder for free-speech and segregating children to teach them the 'morality' of murder as... "unimportant"?

so what if he has a different belief than others? judge the man for the person he is, not what he believes. he is a man who wants peace and love and tolerance. besides no religion is blameless, christians killed millions in they didn't convert for years
MultiGeekmaster 1 year ago
@MultiGeekmaster This is very true. All religions carry the truth if they believe in caring for your fellow man. Religion is about becoming a better person, not feeling superior to others and, true religion is not a means to gain power over others.
LoreneFaith 1 year ago 2

YUSUF ISLAM: "Peace"
Does this "peace" extend to the women about to be buried up to their necks in the earth to have rocks thrown at their heads? Or the teenage boys about to be hung for homosexuality? Or those who, because they've decided to leave Islam, are about to be hung or beheaded? No, I didn't think so... after all, we needn't question his views on free-speech; his comments regarding Salman Rushdie make that perfectly clear.
blackmore4 1 year ago
@blackmore4 In case you were wondering why the women I mentioned have been and will be buried in the earth up to their necks to have rocks thrown at their heads, it is the Islamic Sharia punishment for adultery. Something that Yusuf Islam fully supports.
"Peace".... sort of Adolf Hitler style 'peace', right?
blackmore4 1 year ago
@blackmore4 i,ve been a muslim all my life and i've never ever heard or witness any of what are you saying about islam and let me be with you and say its true tell me when did it happened i am sure who did it is from the same people that i was talking about up in my comment .. the one who got no life and believes in nothing but hate to humanity and ones again they got nothing to do with islam cause islam is a big religion and not all the world know's about it so its easy to manipulation
ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER 1 year ago
@ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER "i've never ever heard any of what are you saying about islam"
1] Then you need to source the Sharia legal texts (CURRENTLY operational in many a Muslim majority country) to learn the facts.
a) Adultery is punishable by stoning. The woman is buried to her neck in the earth whereupon SMALL rocks are thrown directly at her head 'til dead. Sharia specifically stipulates that they MUST NOT be large... to prolong the... 'ceremony'.
blackmore4 1 year ago
2] The man however is only buried to his waist and... this is unreal... if he manages to pull himself from the ground (which he has more than a 50% better chance of achieving than the woman - strength/waist rather than neck burial) before the rocks have killed him (and if he's able to defy his concussion/hemorrhaging to hobble away) he is... pardoned and freed. Bloody patriarchy 'til the very end.
blackmore4 1 year ago
@ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER
3]
b) Blasphemy (free-speech) and Apostasy (a Muslim leaving Islam) - Hanging or beheading
c) Homosexuality - Obviously death... though there is some dispute about the appropriate method. Interestingly, the choices between burning, stoning or... throwing from a cliff... are pondered and illustrated in a children's school book currently in use at private Islamic schools in the UK (see recent BBC Panorama TV programme).
blackmore4 1 year ago
@blackmore4 see one again you didn't answer me when did some body in any legal well respected countries of islam mention one ,that have burns or stone to the neck or did any of it as i said its big religion and you cant take you source of information from any where or any book even the holy Qur'an you cant as muslim to read and decide how to live directly by your self that why we have alot of book just to interpretation, analysis and reverse targeting the Lord words and the reason \1
ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER 1 year ago
@blackmore4 of it and the reason she got down in and what period of time and alot of these are books that need to by breakdown by the senior scientists to show the right meaning of it veto which are clearly either the rest of the world is different in dealing with Islam in some cases, I personally heard and talk to people who are aware of the truth of words and interpreted , and they like to believe the opposite of the lords words and meaning they love to believe manipulate \2
ZITHEPEACEBELIEVER 1 year ago
@blackmore4 one's even though they now the truth but they are not so many. the problem is in the understanding, and analysis the application no body can ignore all of this i am not here to explain and interpret details but every body considers all of that in the islam world as i said big religion just like christianity you have to keep going to church to keep learning and we don't take our studies advisory opinion from any one . just from leading scholars in Mecca . not the UK

Oh well, at least he had the good taste to play an AMERICAN made Gibson guitar.
ericroi 1 year ago
@ericroi First of all I support Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood both listed as terrorist groups by some countries. While I dont support terrorist acts, the goals they are trying to accomplish I am for. Also Yusuf doesnt support terrorism and the newspaper that printed that lie was sued for slander and he won because they lied in their newspaper just for headlines.
DGomez2012 1 year ago
@DGomez2012 Do you think that perhaps Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood are listed as terrorist groups because they engage in terrorism? And besides that Cat Stevens has admitted himself that "maybe" some of his donations to "charity groups" have been used to support terrorism.
ericroi 1 year ago
@ericroi The Muslim Brotherhood doesnt go and commit terrorist acts what they want is simple a new Caliphate. As for Hamas any nation with its back against the wall would mostlikely do the same, but that doesnt make their actions acceptable.
Also almost every charity that helps impoverished people around the world has to make deals with local warlords. A lot of charities have money that goes to rebel groups so they "being the charity givers" can go into the area and help the people.
DGomez2012 1 year ago
@DGomez2012 And by the way, when I refer to him as Cat Stevens, I mean no disrespect. It's just the way I remember him, and I love his music and guitar playing style.
ericroi 1 year ago
@ericroi I still call him Cat Stevens too cause that is how I remember him too.

so, you are for the destruction of an entire nation that would likely result in the murder of millions of jews at the hands of religion crazed arabs - how nice of you
dukearty 1 year ago
@dukearty Im for the lands of Palestine to be united as one land governed by the Palestinian people. Dont just say a person is for the destruction of millions of jews or call them crazed arabs. Only people who want to look at issues in black and white would call them crazed instead of trying to understand what they want.
DGomez2012 1 year ago
@DGomez2012
great! and just who are the "palestinian" people?
they didn't exist until 1967
and are you so deluded that you think jews would be treated fairly by a muslim ruled society?? LMAO!!
and what precisely have these "palestinians" contributed to society?\
what will they contribute to society?
another backward barbaric country capable of only ranking among the lowest for equality, tolerance, peace, education, productivity and human rights, just like other islamic nations! great!
dukearty 1 year ago
@ericroi Not all Muslims are terrorists, not all Democrats are Socialists, not all Republicans are born-again Christians....I could go on and on.....
LoreneFaith 1 year ago 2
@ericroi so just because he is Muslim (which he converted to in the 70's) he is automatically a terrorist? Yusuf Islam is one of the strongest supporters for peace and he heavily criticized the actions of the extremest Muslims that committed the terrorist attacks.

LoreneFaith 1 year ago
@newsduke "Divisive"? You mean those for and against Cat Stevens' appearances where he sings about 'peace love and understanding' but has yet to retract his categorical statements of support for the Islamic death sentence on Salman Rushdie (worse - denying them)? Until he does this (retracts) and publicly apologizes to Salman Rushdie, please tell me how it's possible to view him as anything other than a total fraud with an extremely sinister agenda?

To interrupt such a unique and special moment of Yousef singing Peace Train was a huge mistake. I understand the schtick they were going for, but it was idiotic in hindsight.
jmurf999 1 year ago
@jmurf999 I think the whole idea they were trying to get across was the sanity or fear theme. It would have been nice to the peace and crazy train songs complete though. I agree with that :)
LoreneFaith 1 year ago 3
@LoreneFaith Yes that was the "schtick" part of my comment. They beat that theme to death. They should have taken the "opposing view thing" at the end of each song then shown unity for the Love Train. Which was cool to see in it's entirety. It disrespected the song and Cat Stevens, and the people who love that song, even if it was an "act". That's all I'm saying. It could have been thought through a bit more that's all.
jmurf999 1 year ago
@jmurf999 I agree with you. It would have been great to have been able to hear all three songs in their entirety and still make the arguments at the end of each song. I am sure that the artists knew what was going to happen ahead of time and they still got paid to perform.
LoreneFaith 1 year ago
@LoreneFaith You are absolutely correct in knowing that the artists knew ahead of time. I understand it was one big skit. It was at the expense of a "unique performance" by a unique legendary performer who has been out of the pubic eye musically for a long, long time at this level of exposure. I'm just expressing my feelings about it, and how it affected me personally. Others feel different, and that is their choice, and I respect their view about how it affected them one way or the other.
jmurf999 1 year ago 2
@jmurf999 I definitely respect your opinion too and totally agree with you. Yusuf was banned from this country by President Bush and so was not able to perform here. He must have agreed with the message of the rally and that is why he was willing to put up with the interruption. It was wonderful seeing him perform again after so long and yes, it would have been great if we could have heard him finish his song. Maybe this will bring him back to us again soon.
LoreneFaith 1 year ago
@jmurf999 Not sure you understand how comedy is structured.

@Pagecast I know how "good" comedy is structured. I don't think you understand how music performance should be respected.
jmurf999 1 year ago
@jmurf999 Doesn't the reverse also count? It was also disrespectful to interrupt Crazy Train, also disrespectful to Ozzy and his fans.
sandalman300 1 year ago
@sandalman300 It's more of an "addition to" as opposed to the reverse of, but you're right. Iit was disrespectful that way too. I guess it's more to the fans of the music than to the musicians themselves as they agreed to let their songs be used in this way; which is their total right to do; but a turn-off nonetheless for true music fans.
