@KINGoFOOLS1 The normal LEO/military SS190 round is actually a helluva round...especially when you consider its penetrative abilities after passing through soft armor. The rounds that civilians can buy still pack a pretty big punch for their size, after all, a Five-seveN pistol is what the Ford Hood shooter used to kill 13 service members.. Some rounds (like those used in the Fort Hood shootings) are factory loaded with Hornady V-Max bullets -- you know what those do upon impact, right?.

I absolutely adore the P90, and the companion Five-seveN. Unfortunately for me I live in California. Which isn't bad. I have excellent weather nearly year round, and I'm only a few miles from the ocean, but the gun laws in this state are incredibly stupid. At least we can still get firearms to some extant. I've been considering getting a pump action shotgun for home defense.

Ironically i've only shot its full auto counterpart the P90 but from what I saw with that this weapon is excellent if I do get one I'm defiantly sending in a Form 1 and getting it SBR'd so it can function with its true purpose as a CQB weapon.

@NumeralKillerlive I don't know anything about californian gun laws, but I believe he was referring specifically to a magazine limit. It seems that California only allows a maximum of 10 rounds in a magazine; much less than the 50 rounds it CAN hold. So you'd have to get a smaller magazine.

You should do independent research on the matter, though. I literally live across the country from California.

@IncredibleMD I've heard that 10 round mags are legal in some states, and 30 round ones in others. the 50s are supposed to be government use only, but they arent hard to get and its not like the so called ban on 50 round mags is enforced. I can't see why you would really need more than 30 rounds as a civilian though, at least on a semi-auto weapon.

@medusa210562 you can shoot any gun at just about any distance as long as you compensate for wind and elevation. 200 is pushing it. 50 meters is average, but at 100 you really have to aim high, and i cant imagine 200 to be very easy.

@VengeanceIV Full auto weapons are so prohibitively expensive that I it is an area into which I have not really spent much time researching. Full auto weapons ARE legal with the correct class of tax stamp but I am not sure about the availability of the P90 or where you would locate one. As far as converting a semi-auto to full auto it isn't legal without going through licensing steps and I prefer to keep the law (and my guns and rights). Wish I had more info for you. Sorry.

Great Review of this rifle. I understand the need to mention the close quater combat effectiveness of the PS90 but I dont know about even suggesting it for home defense. I watched that round go through 2 bullet proof vests in a demonstration. The last thing Id want is to let one of them loose and find out I killed a neighbor or even my own child in the next room. @pete40oz i wouldn't worry about it over penetrating. The video you saw was probly a test of the ball(armor piercing) round. The unrestricted civilian ammo is designed to not overpentrate. I use the the v-max round and feeel better about using this inside than any other round i use

@manny298 a shorter barrel is more concealable and yes the bullets gains more fps in a longer barrel, but when you are hit by any bullet, you probably wouldn't note the difference so they thought let's make a short barrel illegal so they can't conceal it very easy (note .223, 7.62, 5.45 etc pistols -.-)

I only think shotguns should have a regulated minimum barrel length because a sawn off shotty without a stock can be quite small, making them much easier to conceal. @MrCker Not hard at all. Cabelas, and just about any gun shop carries the 5.7 x 28mm cartridge. Savage is going to be producing a rifle for the cartridge. There is also an AR upper you can buy that uses the PS90 magazine and 5.7 ammo. As soon as Savage makes a bolt-action 5.7 I am buying it. I think it will be an excellent varmind rifle to bridge the gap between the .17 HMR an the .223/5.56.
