not bad those subs looks heavy as hell and over time from going over bumps and the beats pumping i have a feeling the screw holes in that glass will crack out. are the subs uneveN? i like the fact the bass can still travel thru the amps thru the arm rest into the car. having trouble with my bmw now going thru money trying to get something to look decent. good idea here
Nice work! Only thing I would have different is a metal amp rack and no foil for the base former. Instead I would have used masking tape. Conforms nicely to the carpet, doesn't leave crinkles like foil does, won't tear if you apply some pressure spreading resin, and the adhesive won't melt as long as you keep the glass in there for a while. Other than that, turned out nice!
man nice trunk setup even though the speakers didnt come out as expected. I'm thinking of making a carbon fiber box think they can make good bass? i just stuff my boxes with pillow cases and the sound comes out fluffier..
i like it minus the subs not being lined up and the gay led bar from walmart. other than that the car the amps everything was perfect. i wish i could master fiberglass like that...
I loved it. N fuck the haters man, they dont know shit. The subs are powerhouse material. I gotta learn how to do this, this could be a wicked hobby. And what kind of HU did he put in it?
i think every amateur can do a better job then these idiots like seriously if your going to spend over a hour on a enclosure pull out a frickin tape measure and square that shit up... and if anyone tries to defend them and say that the trunk isn't symmetrical Ive got a MKIII jetta and ive made it look symmetrical
Fiberglass cloth is cheap anywhere really and the resin you can certainly get at your local hardware strore. For the installer, nice setup and you have some skills for sure but ill tell you bro a great tool i added to my box when i got into molding glass was a nice plunge router and a jasper jig... id look into it by the looks of your templates as if you had some more advanced tools i think you would see an improvement in yourself, as i know i did. Keep it clean... and again nice job.
definitely. I am actually looking at these today. This will make work so much easier and cleaner, especially for rings. I saw the jasper jib for $25 on amazon and a Craftsmen router for $79-89. Depends how much money you have saved, this might be a lot but its going 2 be so worth it.
I tried making rings with a dremmel but its so hard 2 get them 2 come out perfect since, through thick mdf, the bit wants to bend, so i have to go so slow and keep going over it to get it smooth.
Very nice set up man. So I know you can get the MDX and other wood at Home Depot or Lowes, but what about the materials for making the fiberglass and other materials for "sculpting" the box?
you can still use the same head unit but i highly recomend that you switch it up to an aftermarket radio cause factory radios dont have RCA outputs on them and youll have to use High low converters to get the sound to the amps
it all depends on what kinda car waht exactly do you want dont waht do you have to install materials alone run about 400 for that job then the reast is the parts and labor
400 is more than i exspected but still not that bad, thats excluding the speakers and amp right?, where could i get fiberglass so i could try it on my own and how mush would that cost?
I dont know know where your from but you can get most of the material eather online or at your local home depot but theres some things you prob wont be able to get at home depot like the mold fabric. On this trunk alone the guy spend about 2,500 total on the 2 amps the 2 alpine type x speakers and the Cap and wiring.
ill probably get sony speakers and amps and stereo, I dont want to be the loudest thing out there I just want it to sound good so probably only 1000-1500 watt amp would be fine
lmao .. 1000 watts and sony dont mix. what sony marks as a 1000 watt speaker is really 200... fuck fiberglass for a box unless your dropping it in a showcar or your an enthusiast .. and an enthusiast wouldnt say "I dont want to be the loudest thing out there." and no he doesnt mean 400 bucks including the sub and amp. he means the box = 400. a good mdf sealed box generally runs about 60 bucks if you buy it around where i live
If you make your fiberglass box with heavy oz fiberglass matte, your box can be just as strong if not stronger than mdf.... and a lot of people dont like those big square boxes in there vehicle they look bulky and less professional.
yea, the point i was making was that fiberglass boxes tend to be expensive. you can get a nice mdf box and carpet it to fit in with youre vehicle. ive done it
I guess if your paying someone to make it. you can get a jug of fiberglass resin for $15 and all u need is some mat and a paintbrush... an old sheet and maybe a lil mdf for the frame...
well the whole point i was making was he probably spent more on install and custom stuff than he did on amp/speakers.. cause this video is about a custom shop making it.. not home done
if you want a good sub and amp for cheap then get an fi ssq/alpine r/Image Dynamics sub. the other good stuff is rather expensive. get a decent amp that matches the sub and wiring setup you have.
ok so why exactly would you have the subwoofers pointing inward?

bighorse215 2 years ago
a regular box is def gonna hit hard fiberglass is mostly for cosmetics but you can make them strong boxes
Boricua973 2 years ago
looks pretty good, but you may have to re-align one of them and re-skin it. looks great but that caught my eye.great choice of sub and amp combo..

what did you lay down in the trunk befor you started to fiberglass???

yeah you have to use the tin foil so the resin doesnt get all over the interior

how much dressin have you used?
sahinler52 4 years ago
dressin ??????
Boricua973 4 years ago
i mean epoxy or polyester
sahinler52 4 years ago
I didnt use any epoxy or polyerster i use fiber mold i use fiberglass and fibergless resin
Boricua973 4 years ago
Nice work. FYI - there are two types of Resins Polyester based and Polyester.
If this was the kind of fiberglass resin you bought from like walmart or westmarine - this was more than likely Polyester Based
