I Dont know if this is a newfie or not. But my newfie used to jump in the lake and save me. I was 21 years old and sitting in 2 feet of water. Thats what they do instinctively they are from newfoundland and they used to be on the fishing boats. Their feet are webbed and they have been know to save sailors in rough seas and bring them into shore. They are very gentle. They just want to save you. Best dogs ever.
My border collie once jumped out of my bedroom on the second floor (split level house, about 12 foot fall) then scaled two fences to "rescue" my sister and I when we were swimming at a neighbors house. She heard one of us scream and leapt into action. We thought it was pretty amazing that she would do that!

We thought she came through one of the windows on the lower level. Perhaps you missed the part where it's 12 feet, which is like the height of a room, plus half another room. It's not the second storey, it's the second floor, but it's only 12 feet from the ground since my house is a back split level.
my dog can be like that too. he's a herding breed, and when we play in the river he likes to keep us in a group (like sheep), and gets panicy when we're apart. He never had to rescued us, but he once tried to pull dad closer by his trunks once.
Dogs always rescue children from water. But they only wag their tails when doing when they are on camera. This is to prove to other dogs watching the movie that rescuing can be fun.

It's something that is in their genetics I suppose, to go out to sea and rescue drowning persons. Kinda funny, because he's quite strong and usually drags us back several times during our swim.

The dog dragged the kid up onto the shore because so it will be easier to eat him there. You see the kids eyes? Seriously, I had a black Lab drag me toward shore one time. If I turned the air matress out toward the middle of the lake, the dog started to show anxiety, when I pointed it toward shore, the dog calmed down. I think by their very nature, they feel open water spells danger so they will do what they can to get you to shore.

The dog dragged the kid up onto the shore because so it will be easier to eat him there. You see the kids eyes? Seriously, I had a black Lab drag me toward shore one time. If I turned the air matress out toward the middle of the lake, the dog started to show anxiety, when I pointed it toward shore, the dog calmed down. I think by their very nature, they feel open water spells danger so they will do what they can to get you to shore.
