  • 235, the final score, and America's age today. Happy 235th birthday America!

  • 7/4/88, exactly 23 years ago, and on a Monday, like today!

  • Very impressive that a family won Fast Money on Ray Combs' Family Feud debut. As I recall, the winning family didn't win it on Richard Dawson's debut. So that's bragging rights that Ray Combs' version has over Richard's.

  • I like how Combs just starts off the Fast Money with "you know how this works!" I'm glad they didn't try to pass this show off as brand new like many other revival shows do today. He just started if off like 'Feud never left the air for 3 years. They tried to pass off the Bullseye round off as brand new with John O'Hurley's last year as host.

  • Ray was only 5' 8", he looked like a dwarf compared to that tall family.

  • $10,000 awarded.

  • I CAN TALK LIKE RAY & RICHARD & GENE WOOD

  • I remember hearing the parakeet question on a Dawson-era episode where one contestant managed over 200 points in the one go.

  • $5000 was alot of money for 1988 lol

  • R.I.P. Ray Combs. The Very BEST Game Show Host EVER.

  • RIP ray

  • mttiller2006,wwhhat is a drozdowski//?

  • Are you kidding me?! You didn't see the family name of them?

  • Ray killed himself in the early morning of June 1, 1996. He was in financial trouble, his marriage was on the rocks, he'd lost his comedy bar a few years earlier. He just wanted the pain to go away. So he took the easy way out.

  • I accidentally rated this one star because the stupid video ratings are so close to the pause button. I did not mean to, I love these classic game show vids.

  • the best tv night of the week is FRIDAY!

  • No it's not. People go out on Friday/Saturday, so they play the least popular shows on those nights.

  • It is now official that Ray Combs is a good game show host. He passed the test of fast money by going smoothly and properly paced. His wit was still apperent with the answer of Eskimos. The family did a good job here with there fast answers, calmness, anf acceptance of the new host. Not many rules got changed which is a plus and Ray Combs has won us over with his wit and charisma to hosting. This episode and revival in general were 5 star. Everything got established from the very beginning.

  • Ray Combs committed suicide years ago. I heard somewhere that he had felt a calling/tugging towards being a minister of faith,"preacher", but went into T.V. instead.

  • I know.

  • I remember when I had heard Feud was coming back in 1988. Was 12 at the time, having remembered the Dawson version. I heard that there'd be this new host, and I was thinking "Yeah, uh huh. This new guy's going to suck, CBS is going to be begging Bob Stewart for yet more Pyramid to fill the 10am slot by year's end." You had to see how big the crow that I ate was. Combs ended up being my all time favorite host.

  • They could get a little more excited when they win the money. They acted like their car just finished getting its oil changed.

  • Well it IS only $5,000 dollars between 5 people.. lol.

  • that guy look like sgt. slaughter

  • I think that woman with the striped shirt on with the mullet is SEXY. Call my taste odd but she really gets my blood pumpin. Pump! Pump! Pump! I have a thing for Mullets and Big Teeth.

  • You know, I actually agree with you on that... she really ain't too bad looking.

  • I know we have great taste!

  • Wow....uh...no...not at all.

  • Quoting Duece Bigalow: Male Gigolo, "holy shit, it's Big Foot!!" Ok, wow, I'm goin' to hell...

  • I used to love when Ray would dance during the end credits. I miss him.

  • The fast money win cue was also different than from Dawsons version. Here, the win cue is exactly the same as the main game win cue.

  • This is the first appearence of the "flip" effect in Fast Money. Also the FM buzzer sounds just like the buzzer from the 1976-85 Dawson version, rather than the FM buzzer from 1989-present.

  • The Mark Goodson logo seen in these early eps. is colored in red (instead of blue in later 1988-90 eps.), just like the 1987-89 eps. of Bob Eubanks's Card Sharks.

  • The song at the end is Highway Blue !

  • On the first episode of the original Richard Dawson version, Fast Money was lost, but the first episode of the Ray Combs version, Fast Money was won.

  • On the last episode of Richard Dawson's Feud, FM was won, but on the Ray Combs's last episode, FM was lost.

  • And Ray's last was a horrible one. The guy who played the 2nd half got no points, which is a rarity on Family Feud.

  • Dawson had a brand new show and explained every little detail (kind of painful to watch at this late date) Combs was just a new host to what was by 1988 an American icon of sorts. So the Combs premier is a little easier to watch than the Dawson premier. And I prefer Dawson ironically.

  • I would love to see Dawson's premiere. Is it on YouTube?? Listening to him explain every rule is probably more AMUSING to watch than "painful." lol He had to, it was a brand new show.

  • And the opposite on their final episodes. In the Richard Dawson version, the family won Fast Money and in the Ray Combs version, the family lost Fast Money.
