What Bunk and McNulty did wasn't no lie, this happens all the time, and people DO lose their mothers/fathers/kids to this gutter trash. DeAngelo probably wasn't that stupid, he probably just imagined how many times this HAS happened, and gave in, knowing the game was diseased, and NO amount of money was worth the harsh reality of knowing you've just orphaned 3 to 4 kids because your word has killed their hard working, church go-ing father.

The game is not a game, the game is filth.

@leumasnehpets DeAngelo did buy into McNulty and Bunks story, his conversation with Avon at the family gathering reveals this. And Bunk and McNulty's story was all about sensationalizing what happened as much as possible by painting this man as a saint with three dependent children. Stuff like this does happen, but they were more interested in manipulating DeAngelo.

Yes, the cops are manipulating D'Angelo, because they see he has a conscience and it's an angle they can work to solve a murder. The joking belies their vanity, but that's nothing too sinister, IMO. OTOH, look at how Briana, et al manipulate him.

There isn't a place for that in the drug business. If anything, there really isn't a place for it in any line of work that involves major competition. Do people on wall street show compassion? I mean if literally everybody did that would be one thing. But all it takes is someone with more ambition than the rest and that goes out the window.

Though, as Eradicus said, D'Angelo had a good heart (that he did; one of the very few sympathetic characters in the drug trade of The Wire), he was submissive to the will of his uncle Avon and the rest of the primary figures of authority (whether they be the Barksdale gang, Levy, or the cops themselves). The only reason he was brought in for Gant's death was because he allowed himself to be.

Excellent interview technique. First establish a repore' with the subject inject in the conversation something we can all relate to. Then shift the blame or create a reason for the action (It was the victim's fault). Once your suspect crosses the line it's hand cuffs and court supp's. Sorry can't tell you what the line is.
