Wow @ the top comments, talk about a couple of bitter hoes who wish they were as hot as Giada. C'mon now! You guys are haters straight up! 10/10 people I ask say she's HOT. I don't know how many times I've beat off to her show.
I always rolled my eyes at people who insulted the size of her head, but whoa! She really does have a huge head. LOL. Oh, well, she's beautiful so whatever...
Little tip for those of you actually interested in the cooking: stir in some mozzarella cheese or whatever cheese you prefer into the sauce until they melt. Most restaurants do this and it gives the sauce an extra richness.
@kisstopiagroove As an ex-chef, tomatoes are one of the few things that are excellent canned...most great Italian restaurants will use quality canned tomatoes with no reservations. Canned tomatoes are also canned at height of ripening....good luck finding store 'fresh' tomatoes like that!
Fresh tomatoes are great of course, but the blanching and peeling is a PITA for the slight difference in taste/quality.
@goldseth If anything is from scratch, it's made with fresh ingredients. I don't need a chef to tell me that and I'm not trying to replicate whatever "great restaurants" do in their kitchens. In my kitchen, I cook fresh and I eat fresh. I don't use anything in a can packed with salt and preservatives. Thanks for the good luck wishes, I did find a good video of Donatella Arpaia.
@kisstopiagroove I know what you mean- but the canned tomato sauce that Giada used in this video is made from the best tomatoes in the world- San Marzano Tomatoes found only in Naples, Italy...the only way you can get them is to order them online from Italy...she could have cut up Roma tomatoes and made it from scratch, but you really can't beat San Marzano tomatoes : )
@FindingFino21 But why would she do a video using these canned tomatoes that a person would have to order online? If I am looking to make it tonight, waiting to receive canned tomatoes in the mail isn't realistic. Never mind, it's for those who are willing to use canned tomatoes from Italy. I get it.
@kisstopiagroove You should be able to buy tinned San Marzano tomatoes anywhere in the world. I am from Australia and most of our supermarkets stock them. I understand where you are coming from, but they really are amazing and don't deserve the stigma that is attached to other (highly processed and full of preservatives) tinned foods. Give them a go if you can find them :)
Only a corporate sellout who gives nothing about what she is saying would make this sauce and call it Italian. She even calls the trinity vegetables a mirepoix! FRENCH.
@2groomer well carrots are often put In ragu to make sauce sweeter and sometimes aswell as celery... Often when your going to use the sauce for something other than pasta though:)
Giada, celery and carrots in spaghetti sauce? what part of Italia are you from? Really surprised you would use celery and carrots. Thats an american way of cooking.
This is not good, Giada. And by the way, I'm pretty sure those are not real San Marzano tomatoes. S.M tomatoes have to have the stamp on the side of the can that states that they're from the region. There are so many companies selling what they claim to be SMT's but they're not genuine. Also, a domestic tomato grown from SMT seeds is not actually an SMT because the real thing must grow in that ancient volcanic soil. All the difference in the world. Way too many carrots and please no celery.
@Rendse agree with you here, but regarding the giant head, i reckon it's because of the camera lens used, and not necessarily her head. Maybe they used a wide angle lens to film this to show more of the kitchen along with her. Wide lenses tend to make peoples' heads look strangely big, especially when used at close range.
This is madness. Her sauce is a parody of what it should be and how it should be made. Where's the wine, where are all the spices; where are the meats, why are her vegetable dices so gross, where are THE FRESH TOMATOES... ?!?
True..id rather have a short Italian beautiful woman like Giada that cooks heavenly..than a long legged hot blond Swedish bitch with silicone that likes to watch desperate housewives of New Jersey and look at herself in the mirror every 30 mins.
I always find it strange that people add the horizontal cuts when dicing the onion. It's not necessary, due to the way onions are layered. The vertical cuts are just fine.
Perfect woman, perfect wife. Her husband is GOD as far as I'm concerned! What a fortunate bastard to have such a perfect woman in his life! No breast implants, she kept her horn the way it's always been. Giada has no equal...she's the perfect woman!
Soffritto in a tomato sauce? Not in a million years. Carrots and bay leaves are for sautéeing meat for ragu' not for the basic sauce. There are 3 ways to make a tomato sauce here in Italy and none of them involves canned food. #1 is the original sauce from 'Artusi' #2 is the modern version where e.v. olive oil is added after the sauce has gone through a foodmill and has been reduced #3 is the tomato fillet sauce with just garlic, oil and basil.
Tomato sauce isn't Italian. Tomatos were grown and cooked by American Indians for thousands of years before Columbus washed ashore in North AMerica. Tomato sauce was used by the "Red Indians" for a variety of foods. The Italians actually thought the tomato was poisonious due to it's red colour. Just another example of Europeans stealing from the "red man".
@wovokanarchy For your info, tomato origins in Mexico and Peru during the Aztec civilisation. It was Hernán Cortés to bring it to europe in 1540 and it was considered poisonous (holistic medicine still does) as most of the solanum plants back then. The color was dark yellow and the taste was kind of acid till ,almost a century later, the Italians could graft what is known as a red tomato.
inconsistent instructions are always a bad sign and with Giada's CIA background and super production team it's not only a surprise but also disappointing: @ 0:35 she says, "in less than 30 minutes you've got sauce," then @ 4:20 she says, "we're gonna let it simmer for an hour."
She looks like a moving Madame Tussauds waxwork. Well, one that the makers got half way through and thought fuck it we've run out wax for the body, lets just pretend she was in Thunderbirds.
No, certainly not gay. I would have a hard time waking up to that fake smile every morning though. Oh man, what am I saying....you only see that smile when the cameras are on. Any other time its bitch face central I bet.
@AcrylicChique101 No. Tomato paste is very thick and condensed. It's a tomato product that is cooked for a long time to make it very concentrated. Tomato paste is just that, a paste. Crushed tomatoes are cooked, whole tomatoes that have been crushed.
@LightningFistFighter You're wrong. Giada didn't have nearly as much personality at this time, as she does later in her series. I watched her Food Network chef bio and she even admitted it. As she became more comfortable in front of the camera, she became more personable and bubbly.
