Oh so funny! What a trip! Funny you don't see much of this stuff in cartoons now a days! Wonder why? Could this be the reason our generation is fighting in so many wars? Could this cartoon be a recap of times to come with our current president? Barach jumps off the cliff and takes the nation with him into record depths of the abyss... hmmmm.. meB
Maybe too much politics for this cartoon..did not mean to spoil the fun in Romper Room..
Dear Steve Carras, The name of the actor doing the voices of"Tooter Turtle" and "Lester"were performed by:Allen Swift..not Al Sift.Despite what has been written in the tv animation history books..Sandy Becker was the voice of"Mr.Wizard The Lizard".
I was always curious as to why they made the Wizard Yiddish. (Or is it a Victor Borge impression?) The cartoon was made by the same company that did "Underdog", "Commander McBragg", "Tennessee Tuxedo" and "The Go-Go Gophers", and was part of "King Leonardo and His Short Subjects". I watched this in the early '60s, but it wasn't till I got older that I realized that this was an educational cartoon and that Tooter was an intentional homonym for Tutor.
It hit me suddenly - the underlying message: 'Be just what you are, not what you're not'. Stay at your station in society; don't try to improve yourself.
That having been said, I loved it when I was a kid, and I still love it!
It was with these valuable information that I could better understand the contents of the cartoon. Too bad this design is not in Portuguese, maybe I would understand better if it had English subtitles so I translate into my language.
Yeah you got it Speedy!! I am collecting this stuff and hoping to get my Grands to watch it. I think they would prefer these over the stuff they are looking at now! Nothing gross in these!!!
I agree, I am 17 now, I used to see all this stuff on local TV when I was 7-9 and much preferred it over what they aired on Nick or Cartoon Network. I remember I used to stay up past midnight back then so I could see Acme Hour (a selection of various old cartoons-Popeye, Looney Tunes, etc)
This guy is just like some people.Wanting to be something they were not,and not accepting who they really were.I like how these cartoons taught lessons to us also! Another was Aesops Fables on Rocky and Bullwinlke.Todays cartoons are trash---most of them.
Odie Colognie was part of this collection from Total TV, and for years I remembered the name but couldn't find a trace of it until coming here to You Tube.
This Leonardo stuff was some of the first thing I ever saw in moving pictures.
Now there's a blast from the past... I love the reference to Gunsmoke (marshall DILLON not mellon) and how unusual to see in a cartoon people being shot and going down, and guns being re-loaded... you never see that even in the later years.
I don't speak English and for that I had to translate what posted in writing and he gave to understand a little of the it recounts of the drawing (and that the face that he appears all, hour speaks of the weapon that tooter this using).I would like a lot of putting legends in English and later to pass for the Portuguese to understand each chapter of the drawing better). But I don't get to understand what they speak .maybe he had legends would be easier to understand
I also watched this cartoon around 35-40 years ago and it was one of my favorites. I have tried to explain it over the years but no one recalled it. My husband told me I was imagining it!
This was a Saturday Morning show originally around 1960 or 61.I am 52 years old and yes I do recall this.Twinkle Toes even had a Cereal called ---- Stars? I cant recall right now but I do know it was by General Mills.
I've been searching for this guy for years! I used to watch this cartoon all the time, but I forgot what program it was part of at the time. I love Tennessee Tuexedo, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog! Ahhh, great stuff! And I'm 42 and these cartoons are the best!
Thanks for the post... I remember watching this cartoon about 35 years ago as a kid in LA. I've tried for years to find anyone who remembered the cartoon or turtle. Only once in my adult life did I find someone but, neither of us could remember the turtles name... now I know. Cheers

This single episode has more talent and longevity than a whole days worth programming on Cartoon Network or Disney Channel.

@elc1960 I think he was supposed to be German - most likely because of Albert Einstein

When Tooter is calling for Mr. Wizard at the end, he sounds just like Dick Vitale.

Tooter reminds me of a lot of people who think they can do difficult jobs, but are totally inept.
