that "horrible zombie" seemed fairly reasonable to me. explaining his plans and co-operating and all.. fucking humans just looking for an excuse to kick off.
Wow, zombies really were different before George Romero came along. Before him it looks like our options for zombies were either these guys, or the guys from Plan 9.
@messageofthemaker You have to understand it through a lens of xenophobic discourse. Zombie, a particular word that has (or had) authentic meaning in Haitian folk religious belief, stands in for whatever Americans misperceive as threatening, fantastic, or exotic.
Also, definition number one is incorrect. The loa usually represented by a snake is Dumballah. And he is not a god. In Voodoo, the God-force or God is reached through the loa.
@thebluesrevival I am well aware of the origins of zombies, and the voodoo term it came from. I watched a show, Ripelys or Beyond Bizarre, on a Haitian man who claimed to be brought back from the dead by a voodoo priest or witch doctor. A zombie is one that has been brought back from the dead usually for unwilling servitude, aka- slavery.
At any rate, I believe they could have chosen a better title for this particular flick.
I saw this at the Central Theatre in Atlanta when I was about seven or eight years old. The only old Sci-Fi or Horror flick we missed was "Radar Men From The Moon"! All day every Saturday at the Central or Grant Theater.
Ignoring for the moment the now unusual use of "zombies" to describe the martians ...
why would the martians not simply move Mars into the same orbit as the Earth on the opposite side of Sol?
For that matter, why would they move their planet so drastically close, considering that they developed on a planet that was as cool or warm as it was? Would our orbit not be too hot?
If they did that, Earth, Mars, and the Sun would become tidal locked. And Earth with its greater mass, would eventually pull Mars even closer to the sun.... I know, I thought about it too much.
Actually, as I understand it, we currently have several asteroids in those areas. It should be much easier to move those out of the way that earth, both due to their lesser collective mass and due to the lack of a need to fight a war with technologically capable inhabitants.
"Zombies" was filmed simultaneously with "Commando Cody Sky Marshal of the Universe", a theatrical series which featured 12 complete half hour episodes, sans cliffhanger endings.
Check out our retro sci-fi serial, "Thirty Second Doom", based on the Commando Cody character. Thanks!
Cool Kpix Channel 5 in SF played this during the 1960's as Leonard Nemoy played one of the "Zombies," in fact the only left alive at the end of the Serial

Move Mars into the same orbit as the earth using an H bomb?
Oh please! Spare me the horribly inaccurate scientific babble!

That's going to be one HELL of a Hbomb. I wonder if anything will be left of Mars.

Looks like the Martians were into bling in 1952........so Larry Martin only delayed their invasion by 40 ish years.

Well, if stability is the issue, then what about the L4 or L5 Lagrange points?
WatcherThePunk 2 years ago
that could work, I wonder how it would effect our own gravity? The martians should think this through more.
