Dear Countess! Of course Art Deco illustrations would be woman-to-male, expensive magazines that had to appeal to the high society which had at last accepted this "vulgar brothel dance". There was a significant shortage of available females in bars and such places, so the guys had to dance with each other. Historical fact. In Vienna I don't think men danced a lot, and girls had little freedom and had to be virgins, except in the upper classes. Whore or Madonna, you know. Too bad!

In Vienna men danced a lot! Particulary in the time 1900 - 1938! In the suburbs Vienna's there was many many palaces of dancing or "pubs" also in the "Prater" where the poor people had possibilitiy to dance for few money! I know the history of my town profound! There was a little percentage of upperclass! What will you tell me about Vienna and the living here? The Tango never was the dance reserved for gays and guys! Please go to inform you better!

Wonderful tango! You did a terrific job of illustrating it with swaying paintings of the '60s. For a while we hardly recognize their relative crudeness, and we may even forget that in 1925 there weren't a lot of immigrant girls. They were kept strictly at home to preserve their precious virginity and family honour (haha). In 1925 the tango was still a male-to-male thing, very much part of the gay subculture. If you can find some proper Art Deco illustrations, you will be our Duchess!

But what you say about the 20-ties I don't agree...

I have a lot pictures of Art Deco illustrations "woman-to-male" Tango dancing of this era, but I would take for this vid the pictures you can see, because they are such sensual...The 20.ties was an era very liberal also, and I know my grand-parents used often Tango dancing in this time...

Great video Eva !!! They dance the tango much more provocative now than when it first started. But, it was always a dance where bodies are close together. There seems to be a lot of bending and quick movements to this dance. I wish i could do it, but i'm not in shape. Lol.
