  • 4 voices, 4 different emotions, one song. Amazing.

  • 19 Dislikes??? WHO, WHY????

  • Sound recorded 17./12 - 23./12. 1981

    Filmed 25./5. - 30./5. 1983

  • What year was this made?

  • Sublime.

  • Verdi was a genius, bless him

  • AMAZING

  • Feel the pathos

  • When I hear this, do not want to talk,o think, just listen to anything .. and enjoy .. fantastic

  • One word: wonderful

  • It's Jack Black!!

  • Hehe--Pava once said, when questioned about his appetite for women, that "sex was always good for you whether before or after a performance makes no difference, or even during the performance on the only table on the stage!"---hummmmm--wonder where he got THAT idea!---lol

    stinker---^o^

  • hahahahaha love his face expressions!

he IS soooo cool! i can't help missing him!

No?

  • The perfect mix: four voices perfectly balanced, without covering each other but, simply, singing together. Caresses your ear and your heart.

  • man, pavarotti sings full blast in that girls ear... i wouldn't be surprised if she is deaf by now

  • @jfichter69 All opera singers sing without microphones in opera theaters over the orchestra, so I wouldn't worry about it; Wagnerian dramatic voices are even stronger. Re:your question - this is a movie based on opera Rigoletto by Verdi, director is Jean-Pierre Ponelle and amazon has a DVD. Also, a new movie based on this opera is free on PBS GP web page- google "PBS Great Performances Rigoletto from Mantua watch" (not as good vocally as this one, but still beautiful).

  • my favorite Il Duca aria after "Questa O Quella", "La donna e mobile" and "Possente amor mi chiama"

btw, I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and we have a LOAD of "Bella figlia dell'amore" out here. I always though a casino would be a great staging of Rigoletto with the Duke as the owner, Rigoletto as the house comic, Count Ceprano as a pit boss, Countess Ceprano as his cocktail waitress wife and Sparafucile as a local Mafia hit man.

  • tutti grandi

  • no se puede ser mejor!

  • this is unbelivable.... wow! great!

    R.I.P. :(

  • I got this film with " la cenerentola" by rossini for christmas. Simply awesome <3

  • @SpyridoulaKalamata what is the name of the film?! I must have it! And where can I buy it too?!?! thanks very much friend.

  • @jfichter69 Rigoletto it's by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle

and I think that you can find it in Amazon =)

  • dears, or dear... what a film... my first love for rigoleto and gruberova... thanks very much ... one of the most fantastic opera films...

  • such a wonderful experience after going through so many classical pieces still being able to come across a long missing one (sorry i never touched on rigoletto before) like this impressive quartet out of verdi's unimaginable genius. i guess this is even rare among all verdi's works, which also reminds me of the statement in the movie 'Amadeus' that it is only possible through music to have multiple human voices in complete harmony. pavarotti is just stunning, as well as the soprano behind.

  • So translate it.....

  • This version is the best one by far! it's divine

  • To watch, listen and then dislike is perverse to dislike without watching and listening is just ignorant...

  • what sound touches our hearts more than our voices, eventhough I know NOT what they sing---other musical sounds that pleases our ears because they are its replica and/or its extension.

  • It's YOUR voice that consoles us, Pavarotti.

  • A masterpiece....what else??

  • Hehehehhe i love his Brucy Brows

  • I've listened to this whole piece without understanding a single word, But it's so nice to listen to, would anyone care to enlighten me on what this piece talks about?

  • @Br0k3M3xican There's Luciano Pavarotti who says: 'bella figlia dell'amore, schiavo son dei vezzi tuoi,

more or less : '' nice love's doughter, I'm a slave of your simperings, with just a word , just a word you

    caaaaaaaan..... ease my pain!

('ease my pain' is not literal is more or less: 'my pain, my pain, to ease' )

  • There are no words.... it`s just MAGIC!

  • 1:52-3:40 WOW!!!!

  • Stop singing outside a glassless window so loud lady, someone will hear you.

  • what's funny is when i'm in weight lifting class, my ipod is playing this.

  • @INGLEWOODBUMDANCING that gives me the mental picture of a mafia muscle man but anytime is good for the big guy lol

  • Magnificent!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! Rigoletto and La Traviata will always be my favourite operas. Breathtakingly beautiful!

  • That's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard...

  • It's funny at the beginning with Pavarotti and his eyes :)

  • I love this :) it's so funny at the beginin

  • this guy is awsome

  • love it

  • LOVE IT

  • PERFECT I LOVE IT

  • PERFECT I LOVE IT!!!

  • Man this is one hell of a difficult quartet for the tenor. I feel sorry for the lady who has her ear right next to Pavarotti, that's gatta be loud.

  • And THAT, folks, is opera.

  • all the voices here are unique

    Paulo Roberto

  • @MrKalungkong

Rigoletto is played by Ingvar Wixell :) In this film version he also plays Monterone.

  • his eyes...

  • This is the MOST beautiful version, trust me. The voices are just unique.

  • @thomastmwc not to mention the unsuperable version of "amici miei" of 1975 of course, that's the best, IMHO

  • You are a legend Rigoletto

  • @azoz1213 Rigoletto is the Character in the opera. If you are thinking of the composer, it is Verdi, and if you are thinking of the singer, it is Pavarotti, and if you are thinking of the character Pavaroti plays here, it is "The Duke", and not Rigoletto =)

And if you are thinking of the singer that plays Rigoletto here, I'm sorry =)

  • Victoria Vergara....as I live and breathe...

  • AMICI MIEI :D

  • Hermosura de cancion y ke voces!

  • crazy eyes !!! what the hell?

  • A, maravilloso...

  • My favorite song from Rigoletto. I saw it live. I wish I could have seen Pavarotti, but alas, he died when I was seven :( Much before I got into singing Opera. I can't help but sing along!!! It's so B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.!!! I wish men actually sang women love songs to woo us... I would be his right then and there XD

  • schiavo sono dei vezzi tuoi......

  • I woke up this morning thinking of this <3

  • @TumaScorpio Ye i can understand what u mean....what a weakining <3

  • Why does he look like Jack Black?

  • The "Maddalena" is Victoria Vergara.

  • Lovely...and I dont know who the woman Pavarotti is holding is, but Im in love.

  • 1:40 she became deaf

  • Rigoletta was the first opera i ever saw, I thought it would be a bit of a "curates egg" for me but I was entranced throughout. I've seen quite a few since but this one always remains special for having been the little beauty that opened a new world to me. Cracking stuff.

  • <3 it

  • this is amazing!! the pipes on this man r amazing!!!! :-)

  • pavarotti seems to bring the best out of everything! now i can't stop singing this!

  • this is how it starts: Bella figlia dell'amore, Schiavo son dei vezzi tuoi; Con un detto, un detto, sol tu puoi Le mie pene, le mie pene, consolar. Vieni e senti del mio core Il frequente palpitar. (Fairest daughter of love, I am a slave to your charms; with but a single word you could relieve my every pain. Come, touch my bosom and feel how my heart is racing.)
  • I hold my breath listening to this... I miss singing lol RIP Pavarotti

  • viva verdi VIVA PAVAROTTI

  • 14 people miss the like button.. epic fail for them!

  • Verdi is my homeboy!

  • !!!EXPLENDIDO!!!

  • what a powerful voice, like him there shall be no other. dios bendiga, chao a tutti

  • I wish i knew what they were saying but I think that might ruin it. because I'd be trying to hear their story and forget to listen.

  • @EpicUltraKingSmizzy You can understand it without understanding the language...

  • @EpicUltraKingSmizzy It's not going to ruin it, believe me, you'd appreciate the nuances of expression more. Google for "Rigoletto synopsis", the very first hit would tell you the plot of the opera. You can also google for "Rigoletto libretto English" - this can give you all the words of the full opera translated ("libretto" means complete text of opera) and scroll down to "Quartet", but just the synopsis is enough.

  • make subs pls :)

  • MARAVILLOSO!!!!

  • inarrivabile

  • pavarotti SANTO !

  • YAAAAY Gruberova!!!!!

  • This is GENIUS.

  • I really don't understand the people who disliked this.

  • @tomywizard They do not know how to listen

  • @tomywizard Theres no sense trying to understand fools. :)

  • @tomywizard Probably niggers and spics who only listen to hip hop and shitty heavy metal.

  • @truthwillbetoldjig I listen to heavy metal but I love this Quartet :)

  • @omarelsewefy thats awesome. I also like metal, along with many other types of music...but opera has a special place in my heart :)

  • @truthwillbetoldjig Plus stop with the racist comments sir

  • @truthwillbetoldjig I like metal also. Actually, the only metal I like is the operatic or symphonic kind, coz it has opera :)

  • @mikewill9511 do you know any good operatic metal bands?

  • @jfichter69 There is no such thing as "operatic metal bands". Opera and metal are two different genres; also different singing technique. Opera requires both glorious voice and years of training and hard work, and even then it's very difficult to succeed because the competition is tough. All the so-called "operatic" pop/metal/popera performers would never be able to even get a chorus job in opera, they'll never even be heard in an opera house where there are no microphones.

  • @tomywizard I really don't understand the people who dislikes who disliked a video

  • 14 people are jealous about the fact that this piece will never be performed at this level again !!!!

  • I'm so glad my parents have and are raising me on the stuff. Its so beautiful, But I've never seen the whole opera, can someone explain whats happening in this scene?

  • @MsZoologist1

    Check wikipedia, Rigoletto, act 3.

In this scene Gilda (the blond) and her father Rigoletto, are standing by the window of Sparafuciles house. Rigoletto makes Gilda realize that inside the house it's the Duke, singing for his newest lover Magdalena. Gilda, very much in love with the Duke, feels betrayed.

  • @Lind30a Thank you very much, I was confused. lol

  • @MsZoologist1 duke of mantua is trying to get laid by the innkeeper/assassin's sister, rigolleto's doughter gilda watches in horror, as rigoletto explains to her that being said is pointless. spoiler alert, the assasin kills her instead of the duke of mantua

  • 14 people are justin bieber fans

  • @bopp9 haha, well I guess that means I hate justin bieber, I faved this video.

  • notice when the the red head or the blonde sang a near high pitch u can hear the flutes?

  • Verdi y Pavarotti.

  • BUENISIMO!! LUCIANO PAVAROTTI SIEMPRE SERA EL MEJOR!

  • That is what I would call perfection, Pavarotti is truly matchless as Duke.

  • poor gilda :(

  • @hartmuthopp oh yes, there is 1972 recording conducted by Richard Bonynge from Decca with Pavarotti, Sutherland, Sherrill Milnes and Huguette Tourangeau

  • Horrendous! Horror movie!

  • Let a man contemplating suicide hear this, and he'll reconsider. If mankind can produce something like this, it should be worth living, no matter what.

  • ..THAT GOLDEN VOICE...BELLISSIMOOOOOOOOOOOOO PAVAROTTI!!!!!!

  • Just booked my first tickets for Rigoletto - ROH :)

  • bravo lucciano, maestre

  • Is there a recording available where Luciano does this scene with J Sutherland????

  • che fascino

  • soooo beautiful..........

  • Luciano Bella,Bella!

  • He is and always is the King of the High C's.

  • her ear must have been aching after that aria lol...

  • Mai,nessuno come Verdi!

  • OMG this was phenomenal Pavarotti at his BEST! Verdi was the master for me when ti comes to opera, but where in hell is Gruberova's high E-flat at the end? So anti-climactic for her to take it down...and she has the note in her range!

  • @htshoward -- The end of this quartet as written has no high note at the end of this quartet, and if one were actually to take the ending an octave up, I don't believe it wouldn't be an E flat but a D that would be sung. In truth the quartet is more effective as written, since it is not a flashy piece, but a dramatic quartet weaving four story lines together brilliantly.

  • @sopranosd Thank you. I will sleep better tonight.

  • @htshoward OK, now you're just being silly.

  • @htshoward I confess, I was. It gets a bit "heavy" around these You Tube opera scenes so I got silly on everyone. I did appreciate your comments, however. Would love to hear you sing. Thanks folks.

  • @htshoward

This is as originally written - no high note. Gruberova does not need to show off... she is wonderful in any part of her astonishing range.

  • @ajbweiner I was not suggesting she needed to show off. Of course she is astonishing. I was stated a personal preference.

  • today i went to opera and i so rigoletto, is 100% a good deal to see .JUST FANTASTIC!!!

  • where can I find the movie??? thanks

  • who plays gilda in this?

  • Edita Gruberova

  • I think this is Gruberova

  • OMG!! i totally love this!! i can't believe i didn't saw it before!

  • They are all fantastic. I've got to try and find this movie.

  • Man, that Madalenna is delicious.
