I love this show a lot, but I'm cracking up at some of the comments. It's just a TV show people. Let's not attack each other over the drama of fictional characters. There has to be conflict between them or else things get boring. We can cheer for our favorite characters and still be nice.
But pretty much, if Dean (and Sam) have defied death more than once and he actually escaped from Hell (and were possibly even literally saved by God Himself), what's to say they can't manage to do something about this situation too? Castiel just wants Dean to not give up without really trying. It's tough in situations like that, but that was mainly the point he was getting across. It's harsh, but it works.
Both Cas and Dean are suffering emotionally and deeply for all of this, just that Dean needed some heavy sense knocked into him. As well, Cas was obviously holding in alot of anger too (which he probably does end up feeling inwardly bad for later) and was trying to be calm with Dean before he finally snapped. So, it's mainly those 2 reasons why the fight happened.
Castiel is hurt and angry because he DID give up everything for Dean, at first he was reluctant, but he started to support and even risked his own angelic life more than (and lost it) once. He's become close to both Sam and (possibly moreso) Dean and views them in a sort of brother relationship. Castiel lost his wings and his angel rank for him and now that Dean is just giving up, it kind of like throwing it all back in Cas's face, though he doesn't mean to.

Oh...I have the letter and the envelope from Eric Kripke . He was sweet and the letter was very short and sent to me right after like the middle of season 1. Kripke signed the letter too. After his letter I was sent a big brown envelope like 4 months later...telling me that from now on I was too write to their Vancouver address...because the series would be done there.

Correction...I do not suck at life. I'am a realist and have seen Supernatural since Sept.13th ,2005 ...when it aired at the WB. I was even lucky to have gotten a hand written letter from Mr. E.Kripke in 2005 before his series became a hit. Everyone seems to be pissed at Dean, but come on think what he's been through. I agree that he's needs someone to shake him out of his slump, but he's been dealing with so much crap ever since season 1, what with his dad leaving him, then dying, Sam getting killed, going to hell, Sam turning demonic, not knowing how to deal with Lucifer, and so much more. This stuff is bound to catch up with him sooner or later, no normal person can just brush off all of that pressure. He's not perfect!

I love how passionate Cas has become. At first he was like a robot but now he really cares and he's become a lot more human. Correction...I do not suck at life. I'am a realist and have seen Supernatural since Sept.13th ,2005 ...when it aired at the WB. I was even lucky to have gotten a hand written letter from Mr. E.Kripke in 2005 before his series became a hit. After Supernatural airs it's last episode on the CW, I will be selling Kripke's letter on EBAY...where some dumbass fan will buy it from me.

Everyone seems to be pissed at Dean, but come on think what he's been through. I agree that he's needs someone to shake him out of his slump, but he's been dealing with so much crap ever since season 1, what with his dad leaving him, then dying, Sam getting killed, going to hell, Sam turning demonic, not knowing how to deal with Lucifer, and so much more. This stuff is bound to catch up with him sooner or later, no normal person can just brush off all of that pressure. He's not perfect!

BUT, the fact that he's not perfect is what makes him so...perfect, you know what I mean? And I don't mean that from a fangirl perspective (I'm a dude). the only show I ever watch on tv anymore is Supernatural, and Dean is the reason for it.

I love how passionate Cas has become. At first he was like a robot but now he really cares and he's become a lot more human. I think he really cares about Dean like family now and even though he's so pissed off with him I think he can empathize with him. Dean's been there for Bobby, Sam & Cas when they needed him most, now that he's ready to give up he needs them to be there for him even if it means beating some sense into him.

Dean's given up a lot too. Dean isn't doing this to Castiel. Dean is THE ONLY one who can make this decision and frankly what Castiel wants and feels isn't worth the destruction of the whole population of the earth and that is what Dean is dealing with

Considering saying yes to Michael is a viable option that isn't remotely a betrayal. None of them are ever there for Dean when he needs them and they certainly have been almost no help to him now. Dean is the ONLY one who can make the decision. NONE of them can. It his responsibility alone and no one is even trying to understand it.
