Fell across this while searching for Gallagher and Lyle. WOW.. Brilliant..cant believe Ive never listened to him before. Thank you so much for this clip
This was the first song I learned to play on my fiddle. I always wanted to do the can can dance and bang on my violin with Ronnie Lane singing next to me on a stage somewhere. Congrats on FINALLY making it into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame with the Faces. You were always my favorite. They just do not write and sing songs like you did with that smile. Thank you for your music. I am so grateful Dad & Mom had good music on when I was growing up.
When Ronnie grins at 1:04 it puts a grin on my face...he's one of those artists that is so enthusiastic you can't just help join in his fun. That's beside the point that I love this song.
Saw him with Stewart ... never forget it ... you had to be there to feel it ... can't be explained .... gifted, one of a kind ... no-one like him now ... Trust me ... it's over, ... RIP Ronnie.
This is the best version and how it was meant to sound. Ronnie Lane wrote this. Ronnie Wood sang it on the 1973 Faces LP Ooh La La while Rod probably made it famous as he sang it at many of his live shows. However it is still the late great Ronnie Lanes song and masterpiece.
Ronnie lane's vocals is weird on this i prefer Ron woods and rod Stewart's version, does more justice. they're version is not bombarded with 20 different instruments. I'm no music critic but to me the song needs to sound more simple and nostalgic not upbeat and folky. I'm glad he put Wood's version on the album.
@est3inb3rg Absolutely right. And when he opens his eyes while he is singing, there is a sparkle to them that I don't think I've ever seen anyone possess as bright as Ronnie. :)
Real life stories eh,? good old Ronnie, we all been fooled in the past. great song, simple but effective. Classy performer. Woul've liked to see him perform with Joe Brown.
This is almost like 20 years before Waterboys and World Party, great bands and I do love Karl Wallinger and Mike Scott... but... lets be frank... this is beyond that and its 20 years a head!
If there is a next life, I want to meet up with Ronnie lane on a Sunday, have a butchers down Petticoat Lane market, find a good boozer, and have him play a couple of his songs on acoustic guitar! Bliss!
@cruithneuladh.. There is a good butchers down petticoat Lane. You can meat up there every day of the week except Sunday.. they"re closed. But Ronnie was a good boozer, you got that right...Acoustic guitar.. probably not more like the bass.. What you should have said is," I want to fish up with Petticoat Lane on a mon-sat have a mongers down ronnie lane debris market, find a boozer and call it a bargain, get your bass Ronnie do us a mother brown sorta thing...
Hey man, capo on 7 with G shape to start, then Am7 shape, so you should just keep your pinky finger planted on the 10th fret of the top E string he entire song! Cheers
Its always wonderful to see the great man doing what he loved and so fit and healthy. He's a real miss and never fails to make me smile and remember carefree days. Legend.
I think I like this version better than the Faces one. Ron Wood's voice just kinda ruins that version for me after hearing Ronnie sing it here. Too bad Lane never re-recorded the song with this lineup.
man this song is so true women are just a bunch of selfish users and cannot be trusted not a single one since from the beginning til forever. ooh la la.
Brilliant, such a great melody. Alternating from the happy major key to the melancholy minor key. The song makes you smile and cry at the same time! Just great. :)
I am a song writer. As one, I can tell you that Ronnie Lane was one of the best! Have any of you looked up who these "famous musicians" music originated from?...
What do you mean? He looked after Plonk - Don Arden is the one who caused all the problems for the original Small Faces. Kenney Jones probably got off best because he was picked up by The Who in the late 70s
So what? I'm not Rod Stewart's biggest fan, but he, Jimmy Page, and Ronnie Wood donated money for his medical care. Problem with The Faces is that Stewart & Wood were passing through onto 'better' things. If he'd been fit, Plonk would've probably needed to go solo himself.
Not all good things last forever, indeed that is sometimes why they are good.
Anyone know where i can hear a full version? This is by far the best version of this song I've heard, but the cut off at the end leaves me wanting more...
Ronnie Lane wrote the song For Rod Stewart to sing but Rod complained that it was in the wrong key for him Lane didnt think it was within his vocal range at the time,so in the end Ron Wood ended up singing the studio version,
Has anyone heard the Paul Weller song 'Sweet Pea, Mt Sweet Pea'? It has an uncanny resemblance to this, especially the intro. And he's a long time fan of Ronnie Lane.
i discovered that i lived in the same town at the same time r. lane lived there, just before he passed on. but, of course, i did not know that at the time. i still only live about 80 miles from
Trinidad, CO, where his final resting place is in the masonic cemetery. they do not make rockers like r. lane anymore. he had a sweet sound.
Shame it gets cut off at the end.
