The end of this video is HILARIOUS. Unbuttoning his shirt entirely and calling his own song "miserable crap"??? Hahahahahaha so unlike Thom... Awesome.
@Alfa0schz You can deny it all you want, but the piano style and melody on this song (I'm talking only about THIS song) are a bit similar to Coldplay's music.
@cocacolacriminal Dude, you're right. Even thought I think Radiohead are much better than coldplay, no offense I like them too in a diferent level, I did listen to the song again and yeah, it kind of reminds me of coldplay, mostly in some voice parts. Peace.
Every time I hear Thom singing, it's amazing. His songs never fail to try to get me addicted to them. Incredible.
Meanwhile, taking a short trip to those goddamned comparisons again, oh for god sake, yes, Muse is a good band (I'm a dedicated fan myself), but I agree that definitely Radiohead is on another level. Muse has gone towards their own direction, even if they may have been labeled Radiohead-lite when they first started. Still, both bands are awesome in their own right. So stop.
FACT: Once you've experienced Radiohead AT ITS FINEST, you will never dare mention Coldplay or Muse alongside with them EVER AGAIN. keep diggin. one day, you'll get it. :)
OK, my comment about Muse and Coldplay that hopefully will end this shit. Both bands were inspired by Radiohead's The Bends, but:
Muse: Found their own style, although the singer's voice is CLEARLY influenced by Thom's style
Coldplay: It wasn't that bad at the beginning, but then they repeated Yellow material over and over again because that's what sells. THEY SOLD THEIR ASS TO THE MEDIA.
You know what annoys me about Muse? How people compare them to Radiohead. I'd have so much more respect for them if I could have some peace when listening to Radiohead... So cut the shit with the comments down there.
Come on both Radiohead and Muse are great but Radiohead is definitely on another level. Stop this small mentality like when you listen to Radiohead, you cannot listen to muse at the same time or you cannot like both of them... This crap has to stop, there is no need for this useless argument between both sets of fans.
@RadiohedEfe yeah i think that.its like muse and radiohead are mutually exclusive.i understood it wen oasis fans hated blur fans in the 90s cuz they were the kind of idiots who would see a rival band as a some sort of social threat in there drunken street corner singalongs, but neither muse or radiohead inspire a rowdy musical revolt. just attract keen appreciators or dads kiddin emselves they stil got an ear for musical excellence.either way.i dont kno how some people can be arsed to rival em..
Why do people still compare muse to Radiohead? That argument is dead and buried. They have taken such different directions these days and both are still awesome.
This might be a long shot but, does anyone know when Thom Yorke or the new has some new songs for download on iTunes?? I gotta every song of his nd I need more!
@MarkeyMan90 Seems like it'll be a while before theres any official releases. However in the meantime, you might want to check out radiohead B-sides, if you don't have them already. Some of those songs are really fantastic. Failing that there are lots of bootlegs of the new unreleased songs to be found. Best place to look is on the message boards of fansites - ateaseweb and greenplastic probably being the biggest of the two.
@MarkeyMan90 Finally I would suggest you check out a few of the collaborations Thom has done with other artists - Bjork, PJ Harvey, UNKLE to name just a few. Again, I suggest checking out the fan sites - they usually have lists of pretty much everything anyone from Radiohead has done, so you can use that as a guide and see what else you need to get.
@MarkeyMan90 Ed said that Radiohead will release the album later this year. like in december. It'll probably include present tense and lotus flowers. the last two the entire band has been heard playing.
So... when In Rainbows came out, I'd been listening to a mix I'd made, containing the live, old versions of almost all the songs that ended up on the album. It was really cool to let this build up my anticipation, and then hear the final studio cuts. I'm trying to do that again with all the new songs, so I'm wondering --and I'm aware this might be a very stupid question-- whether anyone knows if there is a way to isolate the audio from video clips like this, so as to create mp3 files?
Hey, thanks. I had already been looking on Vuze... but I checked again, and found a torrent with 6 of the new songs. And yes, I agree, I like Hail to the Thief better than In Rainbows too.
@mrmchpisto Wow, fucking brilliant! Youtube downloader! This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm so glad that I posted the question. Now I can convert the songs that aren't already on Vuze. Thanks so much.
I do. Write ''Youtube downloader free'' On google. There you should find some good sites to send you the mp3 file. It's very easy. Also to create mp3 files there's the ''audioswap'' program...
@SuperiFox you like the electro bleeps and random noises on 'king of limbs'? personally i liked it better when they sounded like a band playing instruments
@butterflycaught900 Feral is amazing, and the name fits it perfectly. It fits the album's theme of darker european fairytales very well. It's the mind of a stray animal (like a wolf or foul beast), and you can hear how all these people talking to it get muddled and the adrenaline/hormones in it, it's lack of cilivization inside it pushes it further and further... i really felt something special in that song. Still do.
@SuperiFox the album can be summed up in 3 facts. the first half sucks. the second half is great, and 8 songs is too short for an album we waited 4 years for.
@SuperiFox stuck in the past....... is a classic strawman argument used whenever someone doesn't like an album. i dont care if their music sounds like previous work, i just want it to sound good!
@butterflycaught900 And i think it does. The songs themselves have good structure, good lyrics, classic radiohead melody, etc. Imo, the only real difference from classic radiohead and tkol radiohead is the instruments. And these new instruments/sounds, like the glitchy drumming loops, or those flugelhorns, they're great imo. Personally, i'm kinda sick of the past, where all the bands had gutiar, bass, and drums. I'm a fan of electronic music, and it's possibilities. (BTW saying you were stuck...
@SuperiFox that's the thing about electronic music. everyone's doing it now and has been for 10 years. honestly it sounds dated. it would be refreshing to hear some guitar. radiohead are 5 brilliant instrumentalists and they wasted their talents by pushing the aside in favor of some scratches and bleeps
@butterflycaught900 It's not dated though (And arguably it's been going on since the late 50's.) There are so many different genres, sounds, styles, sub-genres... so much difference. It's a place full of rich creative opportunity. Where, on the other hand, guitars can only do so much compared to synthesizers in terms of different sounds achievable. Rock instruments are almost up, electronic instruments are the tip of the iceberg.
@butterflycaught900 I've seen this written a few times, but how did they copy Aphex Twin? To be honest Aphex Twin didn't create electronic music either. Everything In Its Right Place is played on a Rhodes Piano with effects of course, Idioteque is a beat over a Paul Lansky sample, the rest of the album is hardly electronic. What it is is a great fusion of different styles and instruments.
@butterflycaught900 Well, i guess we've hit the end point, where we're now talking about each other's individual tastes, which won't really change. Nice talking with you.
Oh nono I wouldnt expect any solo album....it's not clear if this is under "Thom Yorke" or under "Radiohead". But it does sound great, and honestly I'd say this would be classified under radiohead.
I'd love to see that happen, but then when you think of fact Thom has to convince the 4 other members of band, to like the song like their own, seems a bit hard, not sure if I'm making any sense in what I'm trying to say:( But this song is most likely more to be under Radiohead label because it's not as techno as others.

That's it, I'm convinced Muse fans are all 12 yr old boys. They're the only type of people immature enough to stalk EVERY radiohead video and say Muse is better.
I should have my own fucking spot on Larry King live because before I came to this video I thought, "I predict that there will be a Radiohead/Coldplay/Muse debate." Lo and behold.
Is he doing another solo album? I only ask because of all the new solo songs popping up. The Eraser was brilliant except for skip divided. But he cant forget about Radiohead whatever happens!
Skip Divided was one of my favourites...But Harrowdown Hill takes the gold. I hope he brings out a new solo album cus I really like this stuff he's been recently releasing. But he better not abandon Radiohead or I'd cry. :'(
I think everyone is more than happy for Yorke to do as much solo stuff as he wants as long as he does'nt neglect or disband Radiohead. That would be a crime against music & Thom would be locked up in his musical cell for 5 - 10 musicless years....
I invite you to see videos of muse in 1994, have if they keep saying that muse is a copy of radiohead.
Matthew plays the piano since age 6 and has influences from childhood classic.
What's coldplay whatever they want because it said he liked coldplay radiohead, muse instead never said they love radiohead, but this song is much paracer coldplay.
Muse have sighted Radiohead as an influence in many interviews. Since I can't post links of the evidence in here, I have posted various links on my youtube profile page. Click on my username and read the ''about me'' section.
In one interview Muse are asked what their top 5 favorite bands of all time are. Muse lists Radiohead as one.
In another interview Matt Bellamy praises Radiohead, he says ''I think, in the last 10 years, they are probably one of the best English bands around''
musecopiedradiohead swoops in for the kill. lol I find it funny how Muse fans have no issues with someone saying ''Rage Against the Machine influenced Muse'', but when you say ''Radiohead influenced Muse'' they get all riled up. they try so hard to sweep the facts under the rug with a smug 'no one must know the truth'' approach.
Ok. Muse does NOT suck. Both Thom and Matt are fucking gods! And every musician has influences. As a musician, I know that musicians do feed off of eachother and you learn that especially in jazz, which has inspired much of todays music. People need to get their heads out of their asses and appreciate all good music!
I think if you imagine Radiohead going through a jungle clearing a path, then were the ones who are probably just criminally paving it. I always see Radiohead as the braver people. -- Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, in a Detroit Free Press interview, 2005.
thom yorke is one of the few guys out there still making music the way he wants...has principles id say, he dares to tell an audience to shut up when he is singing, stops a song if its not right, even the stuff he wrote for that new moon movie, probably wont be what its fans would expect...you can call him arrogant or disrespectful...but thats him and thats why i love radiohead and thom not only as musicians but as guys with balls you know?...not to be compared with coldplay.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
A simple, common combo of two instruments - voice and piano - will inevitably attract lots of warranted comparisons, like the aforesaid Tori Amos one. Coldplay sounds good to me
really? the songs themselves are like...beyond formula. I think I know what you mean but this song is entirely new in essence...a lot more bubbling, I'm interested to see where they are going with this.
I agree. Now, they are by far my favorite band ever. Seen them live 5 times, and cover a fair cross-section of their songs myself. Where I thought The Eraser was a cool departure from the Radiohead motif, I feel like some of the new jams definitely resonate a bit too heavily, from a technical standpoint, in some of the previous work. Still beautiful, but I fear it's maybe a bit derivative.
I know right, Thom with his shirt open! wow I never thought I'd see the day. Over the last four or five years he seems to have become a lot less shy about himself. Great post man
actually, this is not that uncommon of thom. hes been known to lift his shirt from time to time in the past.. i think hes just a different man onstage than offstage, as most musicians are =)
@cocacolacriminal Where do you think Coldplagiarism got their sound? From Radiohead! This style is Bends era and I love that shit.

Coldplay sux, Muse SUX, they both stole their sound from Thom Yorke and both have basically stolen entire songs, just accept it.
jirdimaster 2 years ago 4
Ok. Muse does NOT suck. Both Thom and Matt are fucking gods! And every musician has influences. As a musician, I know that musicians do feed off of eachother and you learn that especially in jazz, which has inspired much of todays music. People need to get their heads out of their asses and appreciate all good music!

Ur right Muse doesn't suck, they're a very good cover band lol

Exactly, Radiohead basically created Coldplay when they made "The Bends." headline747 is talking outta the ass

I think if you imagine Radiohead going through a jungle clearing a path, then were the ones who are probably just criminally paving it. I always see Radiohead as the braver people. -- Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, in a Detroit Free Press interview, 2005.
HieronymousD 2 years ago 4
this is why i dont dislike coldplay. Chris Martin knows radiohead is better and admits it lol

thom yorke is one of the few guys out there still making music the way he wants...has principles id say, he dares to tell an audience to shut up when he is singing, stops a song if its not right, even the stuff he wrote for that new moon movie, probably wont be what its fans would expect...you can call him arrogant or disrespectful...but thats him and thats why i love radiohead and thom not only as musicians but as guys with balls you know?...not to be compared with coldplay.
Computerdisplay 2 years ago 5
suena coldplay, varias canciones de thom yorke son demasidas simples, faciles.

A simple, common combo of two instruments - voice and piano - will inevitably attract lots of warranted comparisons, like the aforesaid Tori Amos one. Coldplay sounds good to me

Saying Radiohead/Thom Yorke sounds like Coldplay is like saying The Beatles sound like Oasis.

Great work yet again Thom.

It is so bizarre for someone to say anything by Thom Yorke sounds like Coldplay. What are you listening to here?

really? the songs themselves are like...beyond formula. I think I know what you mean but this song is entirely new in essence...a lot more bubbling, I'm interested to see where they are going with this.

this sounds great, but i cant shake the feeling that thom's using the same formula most of the time.

i know exactly what you mean, but its good.

Great post man
trayzzay85 2 years ago 4
actually, this is not that uncommon of thom. hes been known to lift his shirt from time to time in the past.. i think hes just a different man onstage than offstage, as most musicians are =)
