I don't even have to try this to know it can't work. A) toothpaste has micro abrasives in it to cut into the film that gathers on the teeth, b) paper towels are abrasive as well, c) cologne is mostly alcohol and water, all it's doing is evaporating faster. In the end you've rubbed hundreds more mini scratches into the surface which along with the buffing effect if the toothpaste may give the false impression that the surface is somehow smoother and less scratched but it's not

It's two different ipods. If you watch the beginning it's a fat short ipod with a dark front. The "Clean" ipod is long with a white front. Do not use toothpaste on your ipods!!!! Toothpaste -would- work, but you would need to reapply it alot of times, making it hightly NOT recommended method, I saw people using Banana peels (worked better), best way to get scratches of is 1º replacement 2º brushing the chrome off 3º getting used to use a case (not silicon ones, as dust gets between the chrome and the case more easly = making scratches) In the end, you can't stop them from happening, so just get used to them (as I did.).

the whole idea behind the whole toothpaste will clear scratches is that the toothpaste acts a sander/buffer and the cloth is supposed to rub in the toothpaste to sand out the metal to the level of the scratch so that it "disappears" when in reality all you've done is worn down the non-scratched part to the depth of the scratch so its even.

what you did here was hope that the toothpaste would penetrate the non-porous metal of the ipod and fill the scratches. which is impossible.
