We'll just have to wait and see til they compete in Sochi, Russia for the winter olympics 2014 games... even though they didn't win the 2010 games to me there still champions
even the chinese won the pairs this year, evan won the mens single this year and tessa and scott won the dancing this year, i still think that there are sth lacked in their performance, though i can't find words to say what those qualities are. I can just feel those qualities when i watch the russians, and even yuna can't demonstrate them. to me, this olympic wasn't perfect due to this.
I agree that Russian skaters were not that perfect in Vancouver as they usually are, and I think the reason is in coaches - the majourity of competitive couples have RUSSIAN COACHES!
I disagree their performance in Vancouver was a disgrace. The winners have been skating together almost as long as most of the other skaters have been alive. Kavaguti/Smirnov have only been competing for 3 years. Since they started they are almost always on the podium behind China and the Germans. They beat the Germans at the European Championship this year. They got nervous with all the pressure and will be great in the future.
I am not Russian and I am not even that fond of Russia as a country or anything but there is nothing in the world like Russian figure skating. I miss all the greats... My heart belongs to Yagudin and Kulik...oh and Grishuk&Platov!!! I hope and pray Plushenko defend his gold medal in Vancouver.
My favorite pairs of all time is Mishkutenok & Dmitriev.
But I really think this time will go to the Germans. Because people are getting tired of the swan lake theme. It's been done over and over again. The russians are even using the same music!!!!! Let the swan die and move on!!!!!!
Bravo Bravo! Your beautiful montage expresses so well how I feel about the Russian ice skaters. I've had the pleasure of watching them over 30 years and they are true champtions. Thank you for this video!
Will we ever see another skating nation dominate figure skating in all disciplines like the Russians did? We might, but I don't think that will happen in our life time.
Russian dominance in the sport of Figure skating has since waned down but their legacy in the sport will forever remain unparalleled.
@redstarElen If you were speaking to me, I made video on Russian dominance, and never even insinuated that the Americans were ever dominate even though I'm American!
Tara Lipinski, Gold 1998, Nancy Kerrigan, Silver 1994, Bronze 1992, Kristi Yamaguchi, Gold 1992, Timothy Goebel, Bronze, 2002, Paul Wylie, Silver 1992, Debi Thomas, Bronze 1988, Brian Boitano, Gold 1988, Watson & Oppergard, Bronze 1988, Scott Hamilton, Gold 1984, Rosilyn Summers, Silver 1984, Carruthers & Carruthers,Silver 1984. The list of U.S. medalist goes back a lot further. It hasn't been a complete Russian party.
Wake up. Russia has no clear gold contenders for Vancouver. Even Plushenko can be beaten this time out. Russia is a minor factor in pairs and dance. As for the Ladies...cling to the glory days of Irina and Maria.
It is clear you are not aware of current world champion Evan Lysacek and two-time U.S. champ Jeremy Abbott. Both are capable of hitting quads in competition. Their artistry matches or exceeds Plushenko. If Plushenko had not come back Russia would not have a medal contender. Voronov had his chance to shine now Russia has to bring back the old guy. Enjoy Plushenko's return. The Russian men's field is very thin.
Emeraldgreen501 what I said about Plushenko was an irony reffered to what jarwillnc had written about Plushenko being "the old guy". I can assure you that Evgeni is one of my favourite skaters ever and of course still the best in the world now. it is just ridiculous how close Takahashi and Lysacek are to him after the short.
and btw in 2009 Rostelecom plushenko had 157.95 points and weir got just 125,98 ;)..and other skaters r just out of his league....and about pairs u r right they rn't that good as soem years be4 :S
I am well aware of Plushenko's Rostelecom results. I also don't care about Johnny Weir. As I said we have two skaters who are better than Johnny. They are in Plushenko's league and clean programs will prove that.
ok....about lysachek have u seen his world 2oo9 preformance ,nothing exciting, nothing that could tell u that is a winning preformance...i.yagudin or plushenko could eat him ...secondly plushneko is going be better by olympics xD....and cant really compare this guy to him,he is living legend...got silver when he was just 18, just lysachek is out of his league..however u can believ othervise
You are loyal to your skaters as I am to mine. I watched Yagudin and Plushenko from their early days. Technical skills aside they are popular because they are dramatic. That does not make them artistic on the ice. We can debate the merits between our skaters but it will not change our personal opinions. One skater you should open your eyes to is Patrick Chan from Canada. He may not have a quad but he is definitely superior to Plushenko in artistic quality.
But you have to remember that if it wasn't for their extraordinary technical skills their drama would look pathetically. One can be dramatic and even exaggerate a little bit only when he has something to sell. And bot Yagudin and Plushenko had (have) it. If you are an American - the real and practically unrepeatable battle was that in 2002 Olympics. If Plushenko and Goebel had skated clean programs I wouldn't have known who of the great trio should win the gold. THAT was the skating!!!
the unitied states has the most medals in figure skating & in gold, well russia has more if you include the soviet & unified teams but still
we have medaled in 3/4 catagories in like every year china & russia are the only other countries like that, well i wouldnt even inclue china they are a new dominance, we medal probly will in every catagory this year because we have strong teams
@ItsEmmalicious Don't get me wrong I love all figure skating and I particularly like the American male singles skaters, but I feel that back in the early nineties with pairs teams like Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov that the Russians had the stronger skaters. I really think it was attributed to the Soviet figure skating machine.
Perhaps, China can do this. They started from learning Russian figure skating school, they use it now and perhaps they'll even improve it. Who knows... Russian (Soviet) figure scating started dying down right after collapse of the Soviet Union. There are no skating-rings in the yards any more, no free sport schools for childen, no sufficient financial support and etc. and etc.
What a wonderful tribute! Not only did these skaters dominate the sport, they are still some of the best skaters in history - and will likely remain so for a long time!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Words aren't enough to describe your video.I got GOOSEBUMPS watching this. Excellent editing!!!! The music piece is so strong. Great Great Great JOB!!! I literally started clapping at the end. 5/5 Faved. :D
