it's because Cameron came up with the name first, he wrote the screenplay in 1995 and kept raising the standards of V/X technology to get the images he wanted and then they made the cartoon program with a totally different concept

Actually that cartoon is not dumb it's very good I watch with my son...some thought was actually put into it...and there are different meanings of the word Avatar. Definition 1 is: The incarnation of a Hindu deity, especially Vishnu, in human or animal form, 2: An embodiment, as of a quality or concept; an archetype: and 3: A temporary manifestation or aspect of a continuing entity. And in the cartoon he posseses the spirits of all the previous Avatars. So it is used correctly.

I can't tell where he's going with this project, but something tells me it will be his most epic thriller of all time. He's put so much time and devotion into it, plus- you never go wrong with Cameron. T-1, T-2, Aliens, Titanic, The Abyss, he's the greatest action director of all time, in my opinion.
