According to the bible itself most of the teachings of Jesus aren't in there. What is in there are his sermons to the people at large but the bible says he spoke to them in parables but gave the true teachings to his apostles in private. We have virtually none of what he taught in private. Those teachings went to the Gnostics.
Pink77w1 - if the bible is the untampered word of god and each man lives only once then no, there is no one else that should be teaching you but only acquainting you with the bible. But then why listen?
Do not be obsessed with the dogma of different churches or religions. But value those things you KNOW are of God: Truth, justice, Harmony, Service, Mercy,...
These are the qualities that have a universal and intrinsic value. These are those qualities that will make you vibrate in harmony with God and heaven and magnetize you and draw you home. Dogma is simply an imposed system of questionable beliefs not the transformation of who you are.

I along with everyone else can't figure anything out on their own. Going into the room reading asking Jesus to help my eyes see what the Spirit says while reading His word is not useless as you say, I call no man on earth Father as Jesus said not to, no statues made of anything under heaven as it says in the commandments, etc. The church might have been set up good but now has gone astray, there is no doubt about that. Seek the kingdom of heaven its found within you, that's the motive needed.

What a beautiful and significant moment in our Church's history! I shouted "Jesus!" when I saw the Pope kiss Francisco's foot. That was just totally unexpected. I was in awe. Then I realised that the Pope saw Jesus in Francisco. Then I remembered that Jesus himself washed the dirty feet of his disciples. Jesus was the King of all Kings, but he humbled himself so low that he washed his disciples' feet. That is pure love and selflessness. This Pope was like Jesus at that moment. How awesome!

After going to confession a catholic has a state of grace that is equal to our first parents before sin, except for concupiscence. You by yourself will not out smart the church. @JesusgavemeHolySpiri The verses you are referring to are from the Old Testament, but out of context...the context was directly speaking to the fashioning of false pagan idols which were worshipped as deities. The proof God does not forbid sacred images is clearly stated when He commands the Israelites to fashion golden Cherubim to be seated by the Proitiatory. God did not even in those days worry men would worship those images as deities. Neither does the Church believe we will or do now.

@PInk77W1 Well I belong to a church, powerhouse in Watts, LA, one of few white people there, but I moved and now I have a Catholic Monastery in the Mountains I go to service at sometimes with Father Francis who is a real good man of God, also a Coptic Orthodox Monastery near me too that I go every so often. The "church body" Jesus is speaks of are the believers that receive the Spirit and Living Water sharing in the kingdom now, as well as later.

When the pope is wrapped in those robes, the way that he closes his eyes in resignation makes them almost seem like chains.
I think, perhaps, that for holy men like him, wealth and authority are burdens. However, for a truly holy man, no burden is too great to undertake in the service of God.

According to the bible itself most of the teachings of Jesus aren't in there. What is in there are his sermons to the people at large but the bible says he spoke to them in parables but gave the true teachings to his apostles in private. I along with everyone else can't figure anything out on their own. What a beautiful and significant moment in our Church's history! I shouted "Jesus!" when I saw the Pope kiss Francisco's foot. That was just totally unexpected. I was in awe. Then I realised that the Pope saw Jesus in Francisco. Then I remembered that Jesus himself washed the dirty feet of his disciples. Jesus was the King of all Kings, but he humbled himself so low that he washed his disciples' feet. That is pure love and selflessness. This Pope was like Jesus at that moment. How awesome!

What film-making: Alec Guinness as the pope walking down those steps with their golden glittering geometric patterns all aglow----and the telescopic forshortening effect!!! Filming the sequence in the Cathedral of Monreale on Sicily was the perfect setting to imiate the actual feel of Old St. Peters in Rome what mastery. I love it when the pope kneels down to kiss Francis' feet!

The proof God does not forbid sacred images is clearly stated when He commands the Israelites to fashion golden Cherubim to be seated by the Proitiatory. @JesusgavemeHolySpiri Jesus gave us the church to TEACH. period. The Holy Spirit works thru the CHURCH. Jesus said "go to the church." Paul said the church is the truth. You r completely wrong in your thinking that u can go in a room alone and figure anything out without the church. The Catholic church alone has lasted 2000yrs. from Jesus till today. no one else. no other country. no other church. Jesus said "i will build MY church." The catholic church is the continuation of the INCARNATION.

individual holiness is important. It is not universal TRUTH. The church is the truth, u and i are not the truth.

@PInk77W1 Well I belong to a church, powerhouse in Watts, LA, one of few white people there, but I moved and now I have a Catholic Monastery in the Mountains I go to service at sometimes with Father Francis who is a real good man of God, also a Coptic Orthodox Monastery near me too that I go every so often. The "church body" Jesus is speaks of are the believers that receive the Spirit and Living Water sharing in the kingdom now, as well as later.

Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. "He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." HAS this happened to you? The Holy Spirit is you and Jesus becoming ONE on earth, as it says in Ephesians 2:14 STUDY that and be honest and not afraid.

@PInk77W1 Jesus sure started it, but man has corrupted it, Jesus never chose ONE Pope for all the church, each region had a pope, they centralized power creating a ranking/respect system that the higher ranked you are the more honor you received, this is what the Nicolatians did that Jesus says HE hates. The point is this, people do not rely on Jesus to give them His Spirit. They assume they have it from the get go, the SPIRIT OF JESUS is just that, the SPIRIT OF JESUS, alive LIVING

@PInk77W1 As for you saying nobody other than Roman Catholics are saved, that's ridiculous. As for me saying that if a person does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ... that is not of me but from the Gospel. Jesus comes in with power in a person, unless a person is REALLY born again from the Spirit, they are self deceived living in fear. Period. We are called to be bold until we receive it, most never know who the Spirit is, they love religion ignoring God.

@PInk77W1 I asked the Lord about this & walking with me in a dream He said its really hard for people to read the Gospel waiting to receive His Spirit, that asking, reading & when nothing happens to keep asking & reading is something that's really hard for people to do. John 14:21: "He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." John 17:21 "That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us."

When the pope is wrapped in those robes, the way that he closes his eyes in resignation makes them almost seem like chains.
I think, perhaps, that for holy men like him, wealth and authority are burdens. However, for a truly holy man, no burden is too great to undertake in the service of God.
And yes. There is such a thing as original sin. It was the first of five covenants with God, broken by the decision of a man.

This is my favorite Saint. They did not mention how the pope had a dream of St. Francis from GOD and knew him to be a holy man. That is one of the reasons why he saw St. Francis in the first place. They thought his life style was to harse and that they could not full fill his duties of total poverty etc.

it's not as tough as you might think. All you need is a decrypter program (which are a pain to figure out sometimes) and once it's decrypted all you need to do is cut it using a simple editing program. Windows movie maker might work.

Alec Guinness was brilliant in this film! I haven't seen the whole thing but he brings the character of Pope Innocent the 3rd to life in a special way.
From the bishops' and cardinals point of view these are unkept stinking men with no business in the presence of his holiness. But Alec addresses them not as a pope but as a man. One human being to others.
I think when he sees Francis he sees what he has been elected to uphold as a symbol of Christ's teachings.

True, and a beautiful moment in the film. But I still think Pope Innocent's crusade against the Albigensians was cruel. Putting aside the fact they were a gnostic sect, they preached a simple life, like St Francis.

Legend was the Albigenses had the Holy Grail and other Reliquaries and refused to give them to the Pope.
Reliquiaries were more than just a "money factory" for alms from pilgrims, they were testimony to authority.
He who had the Grail could claim authority on all, the Pope could never afford to bow to anybody else.
A bit like GWBush and Iraq, never mind what Saddam had or didn't have, just drop the damn bombs and invade!!!

Let us not forget that, from the Stone Age until only a few decades ago, among aristocratic families the RULE was that the 1st born inherit the family title and lands, and the 2nd born follow a religlious career.
In those days, the Prieastly Class was the learned Class, who could read and write and be not only Bishops, but also Judges and Ambassadors.
The Bishops we see here aronud the Pope were like his Secretaries of State, they administered his Government.

Francis chose to follow his heart rather than someone else's words, even if some of the words conform to his beliefs on the outside. You see it in his eyes at 4:40-4:45, you see him calculating (but you see that as soon as Francis comes in to the hall). The music of the film is a score of Riz Ortolani, and I think that this Gloria is a modern composition, by Ortolani himself, but I`m not sure, is only a theory, `this Gloria have, for me, not medieval or renaissence technic.
