OMGG...I just realized that BJJ doesn´t work against an knife attack...Jeezz ! It isn´t the ultimate perfect martial art ?! The end all be all stuff Gracies claimed to be ?! The realest Stuff in one´s arsenal to the street and to survive an street attack ?! I heard Rorion Gracie talk all about it. Ohh I get it..they were of course joking...eheh Gotta be it.
I'm not a big fan of grind-it-out wrestlers... but the Fitch haters are really irritating. I have respect for ANY man willing to step into a cage & put his life on the line in front of the entire world - regardless of his style. I might not get excited when I hear about a Fitch fight - but I respect the guy & I acknowledge that he's one of the top WW's in the world. The man fights in a cage - you haters just sit on your ass & talk shit about people who do things you don't have the balls to do.
i prefer this over the flashy ninja moves! would be cool if you tried training with kicks as well (groin and lowkicks for example). wouldnt that work even better?
This is a excellent training drill and i am glad some in MMA have respect for the weapons aspects of fighting. Mr. Fitch has always been one of the few I respect in MMA. There is a big difference between combative training to kill your opponant in war and combative training to defeat your opponant in a sport contest. In Filipino Martial Arts weapons training and empty-hands are treated virtually the same. Weapons are taught first before the empty-hands or in conjunction with the empty-hands.
This is good knife wrestling but what is the goal. I teach that disaming is the last resort not the first. Pointing the knife towards the guy changes the attacker and forces him to defend/ run. need to include your foot and knee for pining hand, knife, /traping arm, sweeps, or escaping wrist locks. Learn to push the head down and sweeps from bent positions. Always attack the weapon arm with two hands never one. expect cuts/stabs. Train striking, disarming and wrestling seperately Then together
This type of training while good, isn't very smart. The voltage could stop your heart. For the non medical students out there: your heart works with + - balance. Once you outbalance that, you have problems. If there were no mat (non conductor), they would be screwed.
hahaha HOOAH! ahaha you should go train with the Marines in their MCMAP training and tell us which one is better for actual MMA training, ahaha I was planning on joining the military for their training but some recruiters told me that in the Marines you have an open contract so they can give you whatever job they want to give you while the Army is a closed contract so you are promised the job you ask for but I think MCMAP is a better system than the MACP. I wanna know which is better ahaha
That is not true about the open contract. When I signed up for the Marine Corps back in 2000, I took the ASVAB at the recruiter's office and was then given a list of jobs that I could choose from. I believe both the Army and the USMC have open contract deals for people who either scored very low on their ASVAB test, or just don't care as long as they can get in.
@Samtkjones Modern Army Combatives Program, basically the program they developed out of a week long seminar held back in the late 90's from the Gracies(Gracie Combatives)
Very nice Fitch. Right before my Afghanistan deployment we did combatives with a cattle prod, and it definitely changes things, but you can definitely rely on BJJ to help for sure!
Yes , at this point in our training we are not allowed to strike. We do a similar drill later with High Impact Suits on and basically its a free for all. The Idea of this drill is to show the soldiers how important grappling is. Many people become over reliant on their weapons. The fact is many times you do not have enough time to react and access your weapons and as we experienced side arms are very likely to malfunction. Also soldiers are never alone, they have battle buddies to support them.
Awesome!! I think I'll do the smart thing and invest in a knife fight. Training with wooden and rubber knives does not give you the same "dangerous" feel of going against a real knife.
I second what benshred posted. In a real situation the defender would have more options such as striking with hands, knees, feet etc. Still, this was impressive even with those restrictions.
@Ryan256 That's dumb. Knee kicks aren't 100% cripplers like the movies make them out to be (see Brandon Vera's beastly stomp on Jardine's knee for an example), and unless you're sure the strike will take them out getting control of the weapon and/or getting away are way more important.
Never did any knifefighting. But this is pretty much what i thought was the way to go. 2on1 wristcontrol, and try not to get murdered before you can get the thing. ^^
Experience showing a bit there though. :P
Partner tenses up and gasses, which much suck when Fitch is coming at him with a 75000 volt electrified knife. :P
That's awesome! A few years ago I trained/assisted S.E.A.L. Team 3 during one of their six-week pre-deployment training exercises for a specific OP. I truly appreciate all that our military does for us and this country and it is awesome to know that as Mixed Martial Artists we can do our small part in helping to prepare these men for the life threatening challenges that lay before them. Excellent job Mr. Fitch and Mr. Camarillo! You guys are constantly doing great things.
@mufc786hm what do u mean? if it was real he would have get cut plenty.. 0:11 in the leg and 0:13 in the right side of the stumic already within 15seconds = dead
Looked like the entire inside of your thigh got sliced open around the 0:45 mark. Must've been close. Fascinating to watch though. I wonder what Marc MacYoung would make of it..
My name is John Simons, Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and MACP Level 4 instructor. I am Fitch's MACP Instructor. He did a superb job completing every task and even surpassed my expectations. Honored to have Fitch as a student in MACP. Fitch VS Penn... Go FITCH!
Nice arm bar. One question...do they practice wrist locks? But even with that said having to take on an apparently strong guy who also has a knife would not be easy at all.
