That's actually not true. In Wasted, Marya Hornbacher stated that this movie is shown to In Patients, but it has the exact opposite response. Namely, that the patients think, "I could be skinnier than her" i.e. It's taken as a challenge rather than a warning.

Also, WMG's response has nothing to do with hating or liking "our young women." It has everything to do with the perceived bottom line (read: money).

The film doesn't make it very clear, does it. I think it's a combination of family problems, self-consciousness (like when she is made fun of by boys at school), and a perfectionistic personality. I guess it's trying to show that anorexia is not always caused by one clear thing.
