  • that audience has no idea what just hit them.

  • this was and always will be one of those old school bands that you just dont see ne more

I saw this band so many times they are still awesome even in 2012

  • Hauntingly beautiful ... i get lost in the swirl of guitars and sax ...

  • Sublime.. beautiful song; effortlessly sexy, the way it should be.

  • He is kind of like Bowie, but darker.

  • saw them playing a epic version of this song live just days ago... (worth seeing if they come to your town!)

  • HOLY CRAP!!! What f*cking year/show is this from??? If only this weren't the most obvious lip-synching job, it might actually be a crazy, nostalgic, awesome video. Thank goodness I've seen them 29 times and know better how AMAZING they are!!!

  • I love ENGLAND 2 & IRELAND, BUT I ASSURE YOU THEY ARE FROM SCOTLAND

  • @rchapman4444

Well.... Bowie, who influenced all the above artists, was English.

  • @rchapman4444

Pete Murphy is from Northhampton, David Sylvian is from Beckenham, kent, and Richard Butler is from Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey. Not one of them is from Scotland, Mr Chapman.

  • @flaviabrilli

duncan kilburn has scots heritage. richard butler (and tim) have irush roots - but you are correct - the original furs are a very english band.

  • Richard B. understood Bowies mood, far better than anyone could recreate... He is very good singer, sometimes better than Bowie (India, Sister Europe)

  • Yes, Bowie launched a million clones, and a handful did it beautifully! Classic, black & white so apropos for this song. The Furs and Talk Talk, live, Dallas, '83, at a bowling alley/concert hall in old west Dallas...I was in Heaven sitting by my then, older girlfriend who had no clue what she was about to experience!

  • I shut my eyes, and it's 1980 again. :)

  • @DoctorDoBuggerAll Me too, i was in 6th Grade........

  • love how this video intros. Nirvana's In Bloom video and Weezer's Buddy Holly must've been inspired by this.

  • @rbatty90210 Verd up

  • 3 didn't have a well-functioning mute button..

  • What will the Black children think ?

  • @mantrap9 Who cares?

  • @mantrap9

I wonder if they all work in his dad's fridge factory. ;-)

  • vocals sounds like Bowie , like everyone else at the time, cool song heavy

  • Very nice clip!

  • my fav

  • fucking hell reading these comments is I guess like reading shit-stabber weekly if there is/ was such a mag.

'The Furs' were the hi-bred of Hawkwind's Quark Strangness and Charm / PXR5 period mixed with the first 2 or 3 Cure albums, with a little Bowie thrown in for flux.

A great band and a few great tunes that helped to fuel the '80's selected ''quality'' Charlie crew to having a good night out ffs........ok you fudge packers get back to pulling yer cocks

  • Richard Butler and Jeremy Irons have the same voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @rbatty90210 That's hilarious... but there's a little more egg in Jeremy Irons' voice.

  • This is beyond cool

  • It's cool that the audience is racially- mixed. You don't see that much.

  • richaed is a personal friend and he and i shot off fireworks in my yard he almost blew himself up. lol

  • ah... i saw these guys open for Iggy Pop at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1980. They were all about 17. They were.... fucking awesome!

  • The audio sux.

  • Can't wait for the Furs' show tonight with She Wants Revenge at Levelz in Melbourne. Call 321-508-5141 for day of show tickets, only $30...don't miss out or you'll be sorry!

  • the sign on the set looks like it says Livewire... It might also be the " Dance fever" show ? This is most definitely lip synched. Sax player dosent even bother to fake all the riffs. It is exactly like the LP. But hell it's an awesome look at the future.-back then.

  • wow

  • Love this. Not as much as some people >_> but love it all the same :]

  • june 25th @ the grove in anaheim

  • Damn it, I'm sure I recognize this show and the host. It'll drive me bonkers til I figure it out.

  • cool post, paintedlier. Any idea what show this from, that looks a lot like the sign from the old Soul Train set in the late 70s-early 80s, and so do most of the audience.

  • What an unlikely audience.. haha. Great song. Butler is God.

  • Great post, thanks for sharing!

  • This is a lip sync. I know because I burned this studio version into my brain. And the sax player in the video is off. Honestly.

  • So fuckin cool............ it's sublime

  • Wow, now THIS is the Furs I remember. Saw them WAY back in the day on their FIRST American tour when I was 16! Played frisbee with some of them and got to meet them all twice. They were all really nice and mellow guys. Had a HUGE crush on Richard Butler! I loved his cool robe-like jackets he wore on stage. He definitely had his own look and style going. What a great video!!! :-)

  • Richard used to get horrendous stage fright sometimes, which seemed to happen when I saw them in Montreal around 84, but the whole band was wowed by the big response they got. Ah, to be young again.

  • this is very rare video. and, it is stock and trade furs. even when they were the 'fuzz'. it is simply awsome, and the recording is of very good quality. what a delighfull find.

  • It looks like it says "Livewire" which sounds a little familiar. Love the black and white.

  • @jehouse The show was in color, but it was aired on Nickelodeon between 1981-85...

  • how many times does he say stupid?

  • ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF PF!! Thanks for posting this video is really good

  • that gravely nicotine voice really puts a hook in you. I have "all of this and nothing" their hits cd and its great..i play it when i am crusing downtown in japan late at nite and people always ask me who is That?

  • just recently got to see them live, what an amazing show!

This is my favorite song for sure, and they played it :)

  • To Paintedlier...do you know where this was taped? it looks like a local TV access show from the 80's. Maybe from the east coast USA? This is great!! Thanks alot. I am going to see them in this 2009 tour. I saw them 2 times back in the 80's! Too cool for us Americans!

  • Richard Butler is a CONCIOUS SHIFTER!!!.... I had the GREAT fortune of seeing The Furs live in the '80's ( my VERY first concert by the way was The Furs in '83!!!...) An AMAZING experience!!!

  • @RoadsideDinerLover This was taped at a studio in New York for Nickelodeon (apparently the same studio that did Sesame Street as well).

  • @Simon4642 It is.

  • I think the audiance is thinking, damn this is sombre, shit. But what a great song.

  • i seen these dudes 6 times in and around detroit.....god, they were good live.....he sings best when smoking....too bad about pretty in pink, but they need cash too

  • Wow!

    That was brilliant.

  • Thanks for posting this. Richard looks so young..

I had some "...Furs" albums I had to leave in CA. I wish I had them.

  • Timeless!!

  • The crowd is dressed 'very USA' 1979-ish.......Like old folks!

  • My God!!! I'm in a fucking TRANCE!!! Richard Butler is so fucking DELICIOUS it hurts!!! Sometimes I think that if David Bowie wasn't only 10 years older than Richard or Peter Murphy or David Sylvain, I could fucking SWEAR that he FATHERED these 3 SUPER-BEAUTIFUL CREATURES!!! See, this is why I'm such a fucking ANGLOPHILE!!! These ANDROGYNIOUS ENGLISH STUNNERS have got the market CORNERED when it comes to GOOD-LOOKS!!! And those "accents" alone can make you fucking CREAM!!! God, I LOVE ENGLAND!!!

  • @petermurphreak I couldn't have said it better myself!

  • @Simon4642 woot simon is a chick name right? ha.

  • great song...those glorious Brits!

    ...all that was great about 80's tunes;

The psych furs and echo and the bunnymen always "brought it."

  • Echo is touring the USA so look out for them!

  • fucking... thing... blew out my ears holy shit

  • Brilliant!

  • One of their best song, great voice and athmospheric guitars

  • Brilliant.........

  • ~THE Best...THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH !!!!

  • Shame its just a mime. They were great live. I too forgot how great they sound. On this by accident... as ever! OOOOps!

  • Ah, how about the greatest band ever?

  • The audience must have been like, WTF is this?!? This is great stuff, though...took me many years to finally get into the Furs. I love Butler's "ahhhhhhhhh KSSSSSSSSSS!" in the middle.

  • awesome...

  • just great

    maybe more...

    its overgreat :)

  • This song sounds so dark, the audience must've been like "Ahhhhhh!!! its the devils music!" this song is kewl.

  • forgot about this song, how much i used to like it.

  • can someone post "shock" ... please!

  • I hear you Mvrick1,you have a point and I agree with your statement up to,"TALK TALK".

after that they went really POP. that's just my opinion.

  • Their first and best album - dark, moody, dangerous, and raw/punk... with one of the most amazing vocals in rock history...I wished their following albums were as artistically satisfying, but to my ears they went too commercial new wave and "pop"... if they remained dark and more raw, they would have had an amazing legacy...but man their first album is phenomenal.... CAN SOMEONE PLS POST: A Wedding Song or India please!!!!

  • Generally agree, but I'd say they were ace through Forever Now. Still, when I think of the Furs, this is the album I gravitate toward. So stupidly...

  • simpy great!!

  • so beyond bowie :::signed BOWIE FAN!...PS FURS XOXFAN2

  • I saw R.E.M. perform live on this same program three years later, so Nickelodeon had apparently ditched the lip-synching policy by that point. Too bad that wasn't the case here.

  • anyone know where/when this was ?

    about 78 - 79 ??

was released on the album 1980

  • Is it just my computer, or is the audio signal overdriven and distorted?

    Amazing footage though, Thank You!!!!!!

  • It´s a bit distorted, but not much, it might be your computer.

I hope you will understand my horrible english

  • i hear that too.

  • I was utterly ADDICTED to this song in my early college years. I wouldn't listen to the rest of the LP for 3 years, fearing the rest of the record wouldn't be as good as that one song. Too bad the producers of this tv program had the band lip-synching their song here.

  • woah

  • One of the most creative and innovative bands to exist. This song, and all the others from the first two discs, are stunning. "Words are all just useless sound, just like cards they fall around and..." Ranks up there with "Flowers": "His body is upon the wall, his teeth are sharp and white. We cut his eyes with razorblades and out of him comes foul white light." Yes.

  • wake up world this is as good as it gets

  • Too bad this isn't live

  • SO good.

Great memories, but the presence is also still working for the Furs...

  • Hipnotic and dark song.

The furs, one of the best bands ever!!!

  • sister of mine ... best fur song.

  • home again!
