  • isnt lead dangerous?

  • @BAJARACER43X Yeah, if you eat it.

  • @Eightbanger i think it goes thru skin too

  • R.I.P..ROY...everytime i make a mistake welding and repairing bodywork on my cars, I can imagine ROY looking down, shaking his head and saying "GOD ALMIGHTY"..."CAN'T YOU DO ANYTHING RIGHT !"

  • American Hotrod and MythBusters <3

  • @Herlrzax Thats What Im Watching Now These Days...

  • This was sad.

  • What a Legend... A true old school craftsman and a one off. RIP Roy x

  • Yes. R.I.P. That is sad because of him and the Boyd.

  • their boss has the uglyest bird ever !!!

  • hehe hab was geiles entdeckt haha

  • Haha quality, Roy was funny and a skilled craftsman. I'd love to work with someone like that, cranky or not you'd have to respect his knowledge and skill.

  • I know the first time I ever used lead, I had it all over the floor. Now the kids can take Bondo and do the work. There are very few of us old guys out there that can use lead to repair autobodies.

RIP Roy, you're missed by people that you didn't even know.

  • We'll Miss you old boy.

    R.I.P

  • what happened to the shop? did it close down after Boyd died?

  • Comment removed

  • @321Trooper Boyd's wife Jo tried to run the shop for a bit but by then it was already in trouble and eventually closed. The wheel shop (how they started anyway) is still open. Even before Boyd died he had lost the right to use his name (had to sell it to his son who is jr.) People blame Jo for the shop closing but that's a myth it went south before Boyd died. There is a shop named American Hot Rod Inc.owned by Boyd's old shop manager Duane Mayer in Anahiem CA he's doing well.

  • @Boomersays hey many thanks for the info Boomer, thats interesting to hear what happened after Boyd's departure. It wouldnt have been the same without him.. so maybe that was for the best.

  • Roy and Lee what an awsome pair

  • duarne is the most arrogant wanker on the show

  • if it wasnt for that roy died i think boyd and duane would have fired him aswell

  • Roy is my fathers vintage. My father is a mechanic they were made differently back then they were true craftsmen. I was so sorry to hear of Roys passing you should be very very proud of him.

  • 2005 what the hell one day am looking at the show and then it's off the air 7yrs down the line I just found out he pass that's suck I miss u roy r.I.p :(

  • i came across to this video. i`d already seen this Episode in TV .

i loved Roy`s tough character and his awesome works.

He was one of the last perfect Dinosaur in his trade.

    Some real tears from WesternGermany.

  • @cougar500 Hey cool, I´m from Germany to (Dortmund). Yeah, Roy shour was an absolut perfektionist,

his works where works of art.

  • Wouldve loved to have worked with Roy ... Him and Lee used to crack me up

  • Oh wow, I never knew he died, he liked him!

  • Thanks for the laughs, GREAT video. I miss these characters.

  • idk why but i see jesse james being just like this at 70

  • Roy + Lee =LeeRoy

  • I was going to write up a nice comment on here about him, but after scrolling down I noticed much of what I was going to say plus much more, has.already been said. Goes to show how great of a man he was if this many people feel the same way. To his grandchild below, I hope it does make you proud!! Cheers everyone !

  • A wonderful craftsman..literally a dying breed and a crying shame.

  • Roy is without a doubt a true artist and others should aspire to his greatness. I will miss his great sense of humour and his incomparable knowledge and skills. RIP Your Highness, I bet you're building the best chariots in a much better place now.

  • Roy was a great craftsman and all round nice bloke as they say here in the UK.Such a great loss i dont think you will see his like again.May you rest in peace roy

  • @robertexcell thats right

  • may you rest in peace brother

    i know big Dane too

  • Roy be greatly missed and the show not the same without him. RIP Roy!!!

  • Why is he not listet in the Crew Members section in Wikipedia?

  • Rest in Peace big guy............they don't make them like you anymore......he bought so much laughter to this show. Thanks for the memories Roy. God speed.

  • RIP Roy. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. I'm sure God has some hot rods for you to work on to keep you busy.

  • I'm from Brazil, my father was a small colecinador old American car, he died in 2006 aged 80. Unfortunately my father can not see what I saw on TV as much as Roy Schmidt funny and human person and as a professional who was wonderful. I'm sure my father would learn a lot from Roy. Recommendations to the family of Roy.

  • Long live "Lee-Roy", those 2 guys were great together and great for each other.

  • He was my favorite character. He and Charlie. Only two persons that i liked the most in the whole shop.

  • Sad loss a true tradesman but to weld or fuse lead in a workshop without wearing PPE might have Contributed to his Lung Cancer in fact the whole safety in that workshop was or still is appalling but that is what you get when you get a Knob MD and a fool as a so called works forman that do not give a S@&t about HSE.

  • w_maroney@yahoo.com

  • roy is my favorite character in American hotrod

he always make me laugh everytime i watched american hotrod.

  • I must have watched this 100 times....and i never get sick of smiling about the fun roy and lee had with each other.

  • Boyd died 3 years later :(

  • The black guy is funny as hell.

  • i got teary eyed thats coming from a tough guy

  • Now Boyd and Roy are building great cars in the garages in heaven ;)

  • if it wasnt for bluepoof and duane it would probably still be on tv its like occ and hohoho

  • Q.E.P.D. ,Roy....Todo un artista, un grande con todas las letras. Con sus manos moldeaba las piezas como nadie, Detrás de esa cara seria, había un chico que divertía y se divertía con sus compañeros

  • R.I.P Roy. Loved your pranks and how you always got the job done.

  • What a great man seeing him in action , laughing and cranky he was a perfectionist. R.I.P Roy u were the best my friend.!!

  • A true artist a master of his craft! You do not replace guys like Mr. Schmidt.

  • Their is a big difference between someone who works with metal too someone who masters metal , loved watching Roy mastering metal . RIP ROY.

  • Loved watching Roy apply his skills and all the pranks he pulled, !00% a true legend! R.I.P Roy

  • R.I.P Roy. What a fantastic Craftsman and Fabricator. The Hot Rodding world will miss him dearly.

  • Roy made this show. Without him it was just Boyd's jealousy and Duane's temper on showcase.

  • roy was the last of the old school.

  • R.I.P. roy, from switzerland

  • this guy was great..i wish i could have been an apprentice to him, grumpy, nahh, just roy..a true master..RIP

  • roy is the king in metal work

  • Comment removed

  • Magic hands... in his hands the metal was like paper.

    R.I.P, Master!

  • the best guy on the show. a true crafts man.

  • The show was never the same without him !!!! Im sure here is in the big workshop in the sky !!!!! Maximum Respect !!!!!!

  • I wonder if working with lead for so long was what affected his health. There's a good reason you don't find too many people using the stuff anymore, it is pretty toxic.

  • R.I.P Roy was great watching you here in Australia where you did things the old way.

  • That was a funny and sad video. I loved it.

  • i think that it was great how he gave his right hand man he's tool box that show what kind of preson he was not every1 would have done that (fine man) wonder what kind of car him an god is riding around in-in heaven rip ride in pride

  • To bad Boyd did not learn anything from him. Duane u are a twat

  • Top bloke still makes me smile everytime I see him thanks I could watch him work all day

  • RIP ROY. Fuck Lee that crackhead.

  • RIP ROY youre a good bloke!

  • RIP Roy.

Hes doing sheet metal in heaven now.

  • I just finished reading all the comments and it so amazing to me seeing how many people know my grandpa and give him their praise.

@wanted1974 You must be a big fan because hardly no one knew that my grandma died before him. and she actually died a week before him not a year and that is why he went so soon. That killed him. They both died of lung cancer mostly due to smoking ciggarettes.

Just so everyone knows his tool box is now safe in my garage being used and loved very often. RIP Roy

  • Roy was my grandpa. Thank you for your comments. They mean a lot. He was a great man. To Gerv55 He died of lung cancer.

  • @ndaugaard08 Indeed he was great, one of the last of his kind in that field of Metal Work. :(

  • @ndaugaard08 sry for ur loss, what a legend and a brillant talent ...the world needs people like roy to give us hope in humanity.

  • @ndaugaard08 I used to watch this show and often wondered what Roy did before working for Boyd, the man obviously new his stuff and I thought it would be interesting to know what his background was. Was he doing custom car work before boyds?

  • @ndaugaard08

You can be very, very proud of him. He'll never be forgotten. He IS a legend..

  • @ndaugaard08 I'm so sorry for your loss. He reminds me of my own dad. :'( You know you probably have no idea how many people love your grandpa. He made his mark on this world, no doubt. Just a grumpy ol' teddy bear who was a brilliant craftsman. He is sorely missed.

  • @ndaugaard08 Was he German, or did he have German ancestors?

  • @ndaugaard08 What a good laugh Lee and Roy were together.

  • ive just bought a season of american hotrod after roy passed away and it was hard to watch it without im

but what was really hard to watch was some guy who replaced roy moving his toolbox out of the way and everyone else in the shop was emotional about it too it really upset me

    i miss you roy

  • When Roy passed away I was really upset, he must have been great to work with and he was always willing to share his skills with others that were starting out in the business, what a great and genuine man R.I.P. Roy.

    (London)

  • Respect!

    r.i.p...roy schmidt

  • Roy was a REAL man from the working class who had build the United States. In times like this, every nation should have guys like him.

    Rest in Peace Roy Schmidt.

  • He's in a better place now (better then Boyd's shop anyways ! )

  • Roy was great, I only wish Boyd would of died instead of Roy,-.-oh, wait.-.-.hahahahaha

  • rip roy the best body guy on this earth

  • 3:30 he lights the torch with lee's welder...just looks at lee like "what?"

  • roy starting his day- "I love cars!"

    ...ten minutes later..."I hate cars!"

  • ROY IS A LEGEND OF METAL WORK AND HE MADE THE ART COME FROM BOYD's SHOP. RIP.

  • God bess your soul

  • he was the best on the show , i loved him and that black guy , the two of them crack me up

  • @khachank

There's a new sheriff in town, his name is Royyyyyyy

  • we all loved roy

  • Roy wasn't Cranky for "NO reason". He just had reached his limit of tolerance on Gooofiness, sloppy workmanship, corner cutting and overall lack of seriousness.

  • @briquetaverne and lack of respect

  • @briquetaverne lol, you know we loved the ol grump though, lol. He made me laugh every show I watched.

  • RIP Roy

  • roy was a legend and a great trades man RIP

  • which project were they working on when roy passed away?

dfid they cover it on the show? such a shame. roy was proper old skool!

  • good show guys rip

  • A hard-working decent honest man.

  • On the show Roy was portrayed as a grumpy old so and so, and partly he was. He was also a kind, caring man with skills that are fastly disappearing in the world of mass production. RIP Roy xx

I think too it's worth mentioning Lee. What a wonderful man. Always had a smile on his face, jolly and fun loving and he worshipped Roy. You could see how hurt he was feeling talking about Roy and his now owned tool box. Life is hard sometimes folks. Peace be with you all.

  • Roy Schmidt, legend and good decent person.

    Respect to you Sir.

  • I'll miss you Roy! RIP

  • R.I.P Roy.

  • he was amazing and so funny r.i.p roy al miss ya

  • Shit men i didn't knew that Boyd died 2.But this Roy was a very great man as far i could c on tv but i liked his personality his walk his talk ahaha his attitude========>Itz very strange 2 me cuz i'm lookin 2 death people on television.Allready 4 a long time 2 cuz on tv they just show his program but they never talk/talked bout honoring Boyd cuz of his good work or somthing so i never knew he died allready

  • dam i carn't stop watching this clip love old roy

every week for half a year now! wish i could do somthing great with my life

  • a really good man and his craftsmanship was awesome, a hardworking man, boyd lost a good man, time to move on for boyd but will never find as good as roy was.

  • @ahyie69 FYI, Boyd has been laying in the grave yard with Roy since '08 The fabricating shop died away when Boyd died. They only make wheels now.

  • @dvdfrnzwbr awww, it's a pity, why didn't his siblings continued the shop?

  • @ahyie69 Read about Boyd Coddington legacy on Wikipedia. The business was burdened with financial and legal trouble. He got caught making essentially new cars with vintage vehicle titles.

  • @ahyie69 boyd is dead mate :o

  • lol dont mess with lee and roy we r the fuckin team buddy !!! rip roy

  • roy and lee were the best duo! they always had me laughing when those 2 were together!

  • I have met guys like Roy guys are very hard to find this day and age just one of those kinds of people you have have a sit down with and talk with they are true artists I once worked with a guy like Roy and I was pretty much like Lee but a little quieter lol

  • Man I've been watching the first season of American Hotrod, and it's so sad reading about these folk, loads getting fired and then finding out a couple of them have popped their clogs. Unbelievable.

  • he seemed like a cool old guy wish i could have met him guy had pure talent and loved his job

  • Seemed OK to me..

  • poor roy dont show you ass to the angels ....they send you back god bless

  • R.I.P. Roy...

  • jak dla mnie wielki szacunek dla Roy Schmidt był wielkim człowiekiem polisch PL

  • FUCK YOU --> DUANE <--

  • There was some talent here. Boyd's Wheels, Boyd's Hot Rods whatever the f--k he kept renaming the business, it wasn't Boyd who was the talent.

It was guy's like Roy..who really were the salt of the business. Al was a fantastic fabricator, Charley was a great body-man & painter. These guys are the real dying breed of real Hot-Rodding! I tolerated Boyd and his runt Duane too watch those guys. It's really great to see the comments here recognizing the real craftsman!

    Thx 4 posting!!

  • R.I.P. Roy..

  • I''ve had the good fortune to work with someone like Roy & remember everything he taught me. R I P big fella, the world is a slightly sadder place now you're gone.

  • Roy was a master at a Disappearing trade. God-Speed old boy! There's still a few of us left out there who believe in the old school, and learned alot from you!

  • 1:30 No.... NO, one is replaceable...We are UNIQUE.. There's good people and bad people.. good people still our good memories.. RIP and good luck building cars for God.. ,)

  • roy rip i hope that you now have your rest, you are the best roy rest in peace

  • Only just showed this episode this week on QUEST (freeview) - after repeating the previous editions up to it! Just luv arsehole Dwayne when he was slagging Roy off about the side panels for that stupid lime green motorbike Roy made - apparently Roy didn't measure them properly or something! If Dwayne ever actually did something instead of slagging everyone off then his comments may have a slight validity - RIP ROY

  • Well,I guess the lead fumes didnt do him any good.I use to work with a guy that could have been this guys brother, same attitude, temper, looked just like him.His name was Vic Dyack.Grouchy son of a bitch.

  • I feel like I been in a coma or live in a cave I didn't know Roy and Boyd died.

    asi es la vida

  • Roy died of lead poisoning.

    dang

  • ROY WAS A LEGEND

    RIP ROY

  • ..hope you got dental insurance......LOL..

  • Lot of the "lead slingers" die of lung problems. Breathing in lead fumes with no resperator can't be good....

  • God, what the fuck!!, 5 minutes ago I just learned via You Tube that Boyd had died and now Roy, how sad is that. He was a real character and craftsman for sure. This week on Quest for example was really funny with Roy doing 'Moonies' with people from his drinking hole and he took along Mike I think his name was, that was so funny. RIP Roy.

  • R.I.P. Roy, you were one of the best!

  • R.I.P Roy :-(

  • its so sad roy died what a great man he was will be missed RIP ROY

what did roy die of if any one can answer
