@BackhandTrebond i know what it is, even with all the upgrades, there's still a chance that someone will die, its done through a luck thing, so each character has a chance of dying, but with each upgrade you do, it reduces that chance, so if you do no upgrades/loyalty missions it is a 100% chance for everyone they will die, if you do all weapon, ability and armour upgrades, (no Normandy upgrades) its an 80% chance everyone will die (just choosing random percentages here, but you get the idea :D)

On a pedantic side note, for every crucial Normandy upgrade you don't get, someone definitely dies.

@BackhandTrebond yeah, if you don't get an upgrade for the normandy, it does a russian roulette before the cutscene to decide who is at what bit of the cutscene, and depending or not on whether you have the upgrade or not, they'll die

and also, i think with the more people who survive to the final room, the higher the chances of surviving, as there's more people there to defend the place, that bit is a guess but i dunno :P
