Do you remember back in the late `90s or early `00s there was a string of cars bursting into flames at the pump? That was when they came up with the no cell phone rule. However, it was later determined that it wasn't cell phones, but it was static electricity causing the fires.
@GonePostal69 This sounds sexist, but it was determined to be mostly women causing the problem by getting back in their cars while the pumps were pumping (remember the little latches?), and they were picking up static electricity, and then when the pump kicked off, they'd grab the nozzle and there would be a spark, and that would ignite the fumes.
@mu51im Wow.. So many questions about the type of vehicle I'm driving. It's a 2008 Pontiac Montana which is perfect for carting everyone and everything around, but it doesn't turn heads. Maybe I need to bling it up a bit ;) Until the kids get older, I really can't see myself with another type of vehicle. Even an SUV doesn't have the versatility of a van. Unless I come into a ton of money so I can get myself a sports car... now I'm dreaming... lol
Here in Scotland petrol costs a lot more. It costs me rougly £55 which is around $90. Thats for a very small car (vauxhall corsa 1.0). To fill up a van like yours Rodney here in the Scotland it would be around $125-$150 i would imagine.
In ottawa i have hardly any distraction except internet and watching movies in theatre, or hanging out with my friends. Btw gas price is now 118.9/litre last time i saw Rodney.
good video Rodney !, hope u keep posting more.. your kinds are really young I thought they would have been a little older.. ha I knew what street u were on again when u were getting gas
If my calculations are correct, 1.28 a liter in Canadian dollars would equate to around 5 USD for a gallon of gas in the US. That is beyond outrageous...it's 3.70ish here.
In case anyone is wondering who designed the amazing background on my InternetDistraction YouTube channel, it was Steve Scott. Check out his channel at InterGlobalFilm
Maybe it's just me but 128.1 is F'ing outrageous! They've conditioned us Canadians that this is acceptable. Hell it wasn't that long ago when fuel was like 1.00 a liter. Makes me so mad. And man 75/tank that's just nuts. Hopefully that lasts you a week or so. My car used to cost about 30 bucks to fill up.
@youtubasoarus Yes, gas prices are still way to expensive and I agree, they have conditioned us in thinking that when it falls to 128/L we are getting a deal. It's really sad and seemingly there's nothing we can do about it. I know many people who work close to home who are now using their peddle bikes. BTW: Check out the Earth 2100 Movie, it's an eye-opener.
@InternetDistraction Here in Greece we haven't seen 128/L for years, it's around 1,7 and up to 1,8 euros per litre sometimes and diesels are banned in Athens. So consider yourself lucky xD
@Sunderas All diesel private cars have been banned ever since I can remember. It has something to do with pollution and destroying the ancient monuments. Of course modern diesel cars don't pollute as much but the law is the law :P Only Taxis are exempt from this law though.
@lakeb0dom Well, they did have a higher percentage of Sulfur on them. So that's plausible. With the introduction of particle filters, lower sulfur fuels, and biodiesel percentage included (due to EU demand), that should be reevaluated, no?
@Sunderas There have been talks to repeal this legislation but I think it's unlikely. I'm no expert on this issue but I suspect it's because the fuel lobbyists will go nuts and the government will lose money because diesel is in a different (and more complex :P) tax bracket. In other words, I don't think pollution is the only reason behind this legislation :P.
@lakeb0dom Same here, but on reverse. The diesels are not banned because they generate a huge Income on taxes. I don't know how it is in Greece but here more than 60% of what you pay on fuel is TAX. The rest is the price of the raw material and the profit from the gas company itself... wth?
@thousandsunny627 Well, I'm hoping to post a new distraction video every Sunday. And I have to say, that it's a lot easier then I thought. I actually have a few just ready to post (#4 & #5), but I'm gonna hold off and have a few on standby just in case I don't have one for that week.
Esso, what company is that? Never seen one in Cali. It's funny how the scent of gas seems good. The smell I mean. When my dad/mom goes to pump gas, I think, while sitting in the car, "mmm, smells kinda nice" LoL
I do like to see the personal side, but are you really comfortable with this series of video? It is obvious what town you live in, what SS you shop at, etc. I'm sure it could be narrowed down further. Maybe you should edit a little bit more. Other than that I do enjoy your videos and you are on a very small list of subscribed channels for me.
@MrBuzzard96 Yea, I thought long and hard before doing this, but you know what, if some lunatic wants to find me, they will anyway. Fact is, most people are nice overall, even the ones that go off their heads sometimes. So while it's a concern, I'm not walking around in fear. After all, I'm not in that super star category.
