Yeah, the way this game work is if you're running, you die in one hit. You have to go into your fighter stance (down on the arrow key) to go into your fighter stance.

Don't sweat it man, I hate this game too, though I was able to get into a fighting stance but that didn't help either, guy still kicked my ass. Very frustrating game.

I agree with the users who called out about your lack of research. At LEAST try looking for a textfile "instruction booklet" online before attempting a old game like that. Coming in un-prepared playing older games, who at times weren't as "simple" as most modern day games, gets you.. as we see here, kicked in the nuts :). please try that again using the stance mode,, i remember playing this on the apple 2 and i was 8 and did better than you. please. do that one again. this run of 0.5's and 2's is usually u not playing it. the reason james's ghostbusters review was so long a: he did his research and b: i bet u he finished the game. i like your style i dig your reviews, but that one got an 0.5 do it again.

You have to enter combat mode first, or else one hit will always kill you. Karateka is actually a classic, and its animations were very fluid for the time it first came out in 1984 for the Apple II. The CPC port is admittedly bad though, the animations were butchered badly.
